The sound of the paddle hitting the ball, the grunts, arguments, and overall sense of community is what makes the pickleball community within The Villages special. Johnny Kong of The Village of Fenney serves as a referee for various PickleBall Community Volunteer Groups, a position he's filled for the past two years. Being a licensed official is very important, they must possess several qualities that will attain the respect of their peers, and the competitors on the pickleball court. They must have good judgement, communication, consistency, and most importantly integrity. “I keep it honest with everyone”, Kong said. “ I try and be consistent and try and stay out of the game. We're there to make sure that scores are being kept, and that we're in the right position. A good ref keeps the game moving along without interfering so they can play the game. In rec leagues, we have to keep scores, make calls because in the heat of a game its really hard to see whether a ball is in or out. When Kong isn't refereeing pickleball games, he's teaching the game through the P.C.V.G. to beginners at Everglades Recreation Center on Wednesday from 10 a.m.-12 p.m., where he will instruct various group
Society is built on the fact that everyone is different: different gender, different hair color, different body types, and, most importantly, different opinions. Although conflict stems from different opinions, humans can not help but have their own thoughts and feelings about every situation. Different opinions, such as democrats vs. republicans or pro-life vs. pro-birth, are just a few examples, on the neverending list, of society spitting their views on a topic. Despite the fact that everyone is so different, people can learn from each other and grow their opinions after hearing the other “side of the story”. We may not always agree with each other, but we should just listen, understand, and respect the fact that everyone has different opinions.
In America, it all began in the industrial age, which brought long work weeks and boring jobs. The employees across the nation were in need of a break. Ever since the mid-nineteenth century, white American settlers began to participate in organized sports such as baseball, football, basketball, curling, and bowling. In as early as 1820, a game involving a bat, bases, and a ball was evolving in the
In the 16 century a new sport was created with not a lot of popularity but later will become one of the most fast growing sports in the world.
Even though softball was invented by men it has been transformed into a women’s sport. Softball is one of the most popular sport in the country and can be estimated to about 40 million Americans engage in at least softball games each year. Softball is the most interactive sport around the world. Softball is play nationwide and is very popular in the world. There are about 15% of employment growth for sports coaches between 2012 and 2022 which will add 36,200 new positions to a profession already boasting 201,800 professional.
I have been playing softball since the age of six. From the time I could walk, my dad had me out in our yard teaching me how to swing a bat and throw a ball. Growing up, softball is all I have known. Both of my parents played softball and baseball growing up and in college. They both have taught me everything they know about the sport. Softball has taught me more than the physical aspect of the game. In softball a player can strike out seven out of ten times and still be considered a good hitter. Everyone has rough days, but I have realized that I just need to come back the next day and work harder. My parents have showed me that working hard at it will help me succeed. Whenever I have a bad game, instead of getting down, I take it as motivation to try harder the next time.
Meeting new friends, finding my second family, learning the definition of hard work, discovering something to dedicate my life to: softball. Growing up in this constantly changing world softball is the one thing that has always been constant. Softball helps me to escape from the worries and struggles of everyday life. It has taught me coordination, been my escape, fueled my passion, inspired my competitiveness, and given me strength.
In the UK we've witnessed the move to urbanisation from an agricultural way of life, i.e. from working on farms as a farmer or farm hand to working in factories, then we moved to a technologically based society in the twentieth century and a communications and electronic society in the twenty-first. With this we have seen major changes in the way we provide and participate in sport. We have new physical and social settings, such as golfing complexes, multi sports clubs, high-tech stadiums, indoor cricket arenas and even virtual reality dimensions for practicing before we play. Many local, regional and national cultural attitudes and values are reflected in the development of sport.
There are many reasons why Little League baseball with my best friends was such a vital part of my childhood. It was something that brought us all together; it helped us forget the other things in life and just gave us the opportunity to focus on baseball and bonding with each other. At the time we didn’t realize the impact this would make on all of us, but as we look back on it 10 years later, it was one of the most amazing parts of our childhood. To young kids everywhere Baseball is an escape. For the families, it gave stressed out people the opportunity to zone out and forget about their worries for 6 innings where they can just enjoy the game and watch their kid have fun. Through baseball I have learned many valuable life lessons that helped
Pickleball “But Kaden, they’re like, really good,” my friend Lucas told me when he introduced me to this group. I first arrived at the middle school gymnasium on March 13. They meet every Wednesday to play. While I walked in, I ran into one of the younger players (younger meaning in her 30s), Jenny. Jenny was in shape with black hair and bangs.
Most cultures have some sort of stick and ball game, cricket being the most well-known. While the exact origins of baseball are unknown, most historians agree that it is based on the English game of rounders. It began to become quote popular in this country in the early 19th century, and many sources report the growing popularity of a game called "townball", "base", or "baseball".
James has been a keen admirer of international culture and has been fascinated by the Far East.... ... middle of paper ... ... Moreover, the Chinese being ethnocentric people may not like a Singaporean of Chinese origin to come into their town and factory, and run it in their own respective ways. Also the MD and Jimmy may not see eye to eye as they both may be rallying for power.
I have participated in softball since I was old enough to swing a bat. I began to play t-ball when I was four years old and I have continued to play up to this day at eighteen years old. I have always enjoyed the sport even when times got rocky and frustration got the best of me. To me, softball was a great way to get my exercise, relieve stress, and meet new friends along my journey. Playing softball has taught me patience (as much as I could handle), it encouraged me to better myself as a player, teammate, and myself. I have developed many leadership skills that I would not have learned without this sport. I understand how to stand fair along with loyal in and out of the game. I have adapted to change and differential situations; as my
Sports throughout history have shown close ties and relations to values and cultures of a society. Sports and competition have adapted and grown as the world and people have grown and developed. Sports are often seen as simple consequence of the industrial revolution. The Impact of increased urbanization, better communication and transportation, as well as more time and income for specialization, all led to the creation of sports. (szymanski). In essence As the public sphere grew so did the concept of sport. (Szymanski). Even the impact colonization had on spreading sports, shows the congruence between the development of society and development of modern sports. What make sports very unique is that they always bring about a sense of culture
The benefits of sports range from physical, mental, and social. Exercise keeps people fit, develops healthy muscle tone, and reduces heart and lung problems (Oak, Manali). Sports studies have shown that “youth are motivated and engaged in ways that do not happen regularly in any other parts of their lives. Their experience of sports stands out from nearly all other activities, including socializing and schoolwork, in providing enjoyment where they are exerting concerted effort toward a goal” (Larson, Reed, and Sean Seepersad). People who play sports bond over a common interest. This opens up children to meeting new kids and socializing with many more. In Kindergarten, I played baseball. Even though I did not truly understand all the mechanics of the game, I met new friends and began to develop motor skills. This was very useful starting at an early age and pushed me to stay active throughout my life.
It seems strange that a simple sport can do so much to a person, but it is not just a simple sport. To an outsider it is just volleyball, but to a player it is love, commitment, and family. It is a way to connect with people who become people in your life that are unforgettable. I have spent the past five years playing this sport with many different girls and I watched them as they grew up and went on to college and other things in life, and now I am that girl. I am now a senior in high school playing volleyball for the last year and I could not imagine what my life would be like if I had never tried this
