Peggy McIntosch explains white privilege can lead to color blind racism. She defines the unearned advantages/luxuries a group, whites, benefit from as white privilege. These unearned advantages often taken for granted, inhibit this group from realizing the disproportionate amount of benefits they have access to. “Blinded” privileged individuals do not realize the hassle other racial groups in their society might have to go through to obtain such advantages/luxuries. This same group (whites) believe and express the idea that society(s) has abandoned racism leading to color-blind racism.

On the 5th statement, Peggy McIntosh states she can go shopping alone with confidence she won’t be harassed or followed. In my opinion, McIntosh is being stereotypical. I believe she is assuming any other woman (not white) would be harassed or followed. Would this situation apply to a woman who is shopping in a “white” community as well as the same person shopping in a non-white community? I am aware these incidents do occur but I also believe this can happen to any person (white or not) in any community without it making a difference if they are male or female.
McIntosh writes on her 43rd statement a low dependability as a leader would not be attributed to her race. Personally, I do not think a lack of leadership ability in any person would be attributed to their race. This article was written in 1988 and as we have learned racism was manifested frequent and in various ways. I would like to think we are in a new era where we know better than to define a person and their abilities by their race. I know I would not attribute a lack of leadership in a person to their race like I wouldn’t reason a person with strong leadership skills would be
