Society is a recurring occurrence in the lives of autistic people. In the book So, I’m Autistic, by Sarah O’Brien, Sarah provides an incredible in-depth explanation of almost everything an autistic person can face in their lives. The biggest components are social communication, stereotypes, emotional expression, physical and mental disorders, and life changes. One of the biggest factors autistic people have to deal with is social communication. Sarah explains the difference between how autistic people communicate and how non-autistic people communicate. She gave many examples of the ways people communicate and it connected with me because she doesn’t just narrate her words to autistic people who are looking for guidance, but she also narrates to non-autistic people who are looking to …show more content…

Alongside that, autistic people can have many mental and physical disorders on top of having autism. Sarah did an awesome job naming the most common ones that typically arise with people who have autism and she explained them in great detail. Sarah also specifically stated in the book that it's hard to tell what autism is and what is not autism. I thought Sarah saying that gave true genuineness and she was not just going off facts she found through research but she was also incorporating her own thinking as well. Furthermore, life changes become a lot harder for autistic people and I especially enjoyed how she shares stories about her struggles not just for changes in life but throughout the book. Changes in life also affect autistic people in emotional ways. There are many different ways autistic people go through expressing emotions and I think Sarah did an amazing job explaining all of them and ways to get through what they are going
