Fertility Success with Intrauterine Insemination, IUI
A pregnancy loss ultimately led to IUI at Texas Fertility Center
For Elizabeth and her husband Paul, the journey to building a family through IUI at Texas Fertility Center started after a pregnancy loss. According to Elizabeth, “In February of 2010, we lost our first baby. The pregnancy was a surprise because we weren’t trying, but we were excited.” When the couple

Vaughn performed laparoscopic surgery as a diagnostic tool and to remove pelvic adhesions. Although Dr. Vaughn was able to remove the adhesions, the surgery didn’t reveal any additional information. Elizabeth felt discouraged, but Dr. Vaughn didn’t give up and he continued to support the couple. “He even called us on the weekend to check in and it touched my heart. Doctors just don’t do that,” said Elizabeth.
Dr. Vaughn prescribed Elizabeth fertility medications and performed IUI at our Austin fertility twice. When Elizabeth didn’t get pregnant, she felt very emotional. “He never made me feel bad for crying and he made me feel validated. He just kept telling me that we would get through it together,” she said.
Finally, with the third IUI, Elizabeth got pregnant with her first daughter, Lissie. Dr. Vaughn continued to look out for the wellbeing of Elizabeth and her baby, even after she conceived. “It was his baby too, and he wanted to protect me and the baby,” she said.
A few years after having Lissie, Elizabeth and Paul were ready to add another baby to their growing family. It was a trying time for Elizabeth, but Dr. Vaughn brought her comfort just as he did before. According to Elizabeth, “His bedside manner is unbelievable. He held my hand and he said, ‘We got through this once and we’ll get through this
Barbara Anderson’s husband (Thor), her daughter (Katie; 5yrs old), and Anderson’s unborn child (Sarah) accompanied her to her field site.
The author’s purpose for writing the book was to help families who are struggling with infertility, miscarriage, and adoption. The author was able to fulfill her purpose throughout the book with stories and personal experiences. For example, when she gave a history of her grief with three miscarriages and five to seven adoption lost. She was able to relate to families dealing with each situation because she had experienced all three herself.
Her children greatly shaped her life; she gave birth to eight children and loved them deeply. In, "In Reference to My Children", she writes about neutering her children: “great was my pain when I you bread, great was my care when you I feed" (Bradstreet 55). She recorded her struggles about being a mother in troubling times. In her poem, "Before the Birth of One of Her Children" she records the last moments before giving birth: "and when thy loss shall be with gains, look to my little babes, my dear remains."(Bradstreet 21), she writes this thinking it would be her last thinking that childbirth would kill her, proving that her love for her children is greater than any other love she has, and that she would die for them. Her husband also is a theme in her poems, she writes about her bond with him and that "if ever two were one, then surely we" (Bradstreet 1) in "To My Dear Loving Husband". Bradstreet Is constantly writing about her husband and her love for him when he is far telling the reader that she is close with her husband and that she loves him deeply. Not only does her poems reflect her husband but also the roll that women had in the 1600's. In "A Love Letter to Her Husband" she tells him to "post with double speed, mark what I say, by all our loves contour him not to stray" (Bradstreet 39). One of her most prominent themes would be her devotion to her religion and God. She
My daughter’s name is Peyton Lynn Hetherington. Peyton had a normal birth. Labor was about ten hours long, and given naturally. A natural birth is a group of techniques aimed at reducing pain and medical intervention and making childbirth as rewarding as possible (Harris, Sara). I am proud that my "team" could make use of the natural childbirth breathing and relaxation techniques. My partner and myself were amazed at our angel Peyton. My partner and I are adapting well thus far with the new addition to our family. We are taking turns with Peyton and my partner has been very helpful.
For many years, infertile couples have had difficulty facing the reality that they can not have children. According to Nidus Information Services Incorporated, 6.2 million women in the United States are infertile. This problem leads to many options. A few options have been used for a long period of time: the couple could adopt a child or keep trying to have a child themselves. For those couples that want to have their own children, there are new options arising. In vetro fertilization is an option that gives couples the chance to have a doctor combine the male's sperm and the woman's eggs in a petri dish and implant them into the woman's womb after the artificial conception. This may result in multiple pregnancies - more than five in some cases. This does not only occur in implantation, however. Many times the patient's doctor will ask her to consider selective reduction: aborting a few fetuses to save the ones she can. In a case of multiple pregnancy, selective reduction should be considered an option.

When going through IVF there are steps each person or couple have to take. “First, fertility medications are prescribed to the woman to stimulate egg production. Multiple eggs are preferred since some eggs will not develop or fertilize after retrieval. Some side effects of fertility medications can be headaches, mood swings, abdominal pain, hot flashes and bloating.” (American Pregnancy)

My mother had struggled to get pregnant for years, and at age thirty-two, she knew her time was running out. She spoke to her doctor who had recommended that if she wanted to have children, she should consider In Vitro Fertilization (IVF). She decided to follow through, as that was her only hope if she wanted to bring another generation to the Stang name. In Vitro Fertilization is a series of procedures treating fertility complications that also aids with conception of children, for this to happen, mature eggs are retrieved from your ovaries and manually fertilized by sperm in a lab. The procedure was successful and her Obstetrician (OB) was able to tell her she was having one healthy baby, and she is to be seen again soon. A few weeks later
With infertility on the rise in women, many women do not even understand they develop it until they try to hold kids and it might be too late for them. Infertility has increased in the United States by 4 percent since the 1980s, mostly from problems with fertility due to an increase in age in women. Worldwide between three and seven percent of all couples or women endure an unresolved problem of infertility. Many more couples, however, experience involuntary childlessness for at least one year. With more people wanting answers the problem is growing exponentially.
...or how many children you’ve previously had, has an equal opportunity to have a miscarriage. This also shows the positive effects of coping after the tragedy. The story of how Noelle Pikus-Pace conquered a miscarriage should inspire all women who have experienced this misfortune.
An important scientific argument for IVF is that, by studying fertilization and early embryonic development outside the womb, scientists might learn more about how to prevent certain birth defects (1). This proves that IVF could actually make improvements in medical advances, especially in regards to prenatal care. This is just one example of how IVF can actually be beneficial to the community. The only times that babies are malformed or sick are when the mother puts more than one baby in her uterus. Multiple fetuses increase the chance of birth defects because they have a greater chance of preterm birth, which is associated with long-term health. The long-term illnesses are cerebral palsy, mental illness, and blindness (Reddy 1). With this in mind, having single births is very safe and those babies are still healthy today, just like Sarah and Maggie Marshall’s baby. Single births are also very highly recommended by medical personnel. Going back to the first test tube baby the Browns were expecting, and Steptoe (the doctor) thought that this baby would be a failure. When they did a cesarean on July 25, 1978, a beautiful baby girl was born at 5 pounds and 12 ounces. After the baby was born, the doctor recalled that
Thousands of babies are born each year to couples who may have never been able to conceive on their own. Dr. Robert G. Edwards is given the credit for developing a procedure called in vitro fertilization, which continues to give hope to couples all over the world. The term “in vitro,” broken down, implies that a process occurs outside of a living organism, therefore “in vitro fertilization” simply means fertilization outside of an organism. This groundbreaking accomplishment is what lead Dr. Edwards to being awarded the 2010 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine. While previous studies had been done on the subject, he was the first to conduct the research necessary to make in vitro fertilization truly possible, and with help from Patrick Steptoe,
IVF is successful approximately 30-40% of the time, and is usually done when other less complex, and inexpensive procedures have failed. There are five central steps to IVF; stimulation, egg retrieval, insemination and fertilization, embryo culture, and embryo transfer. Du...
“The children have been a wonderful gift to me, and I’m thankful to have once again seen our world through their eyes. They restore my faith in the family’s future” (Anderson, 176). Her children were her world; everything she did was for them. She tried her best to be the perfect mother.
