Almost everyone has been sick, maybe they even got so sick they had to go to the hospital, maybe they had to have surgery. Well in that OR there are normal people doing their job to try and help people and make them better. One of the most important jobs in the OR is the anesthesiologist, the anesthesiologist is the person that gives the anesthesia to the patient, which slows their heart down during surgery. Anesthesiology is not an easy job. Anesthesiology is a very difficult, and a very important job. The physicians responsible for administering general and regional anesthesia. (asahq.org) There are many different types of OR calls that anesthesiologist have to work with. Senior Call is 2pm-7am a total of 17 hours. Junior Call is 11am-7am a total of 20 hours. Collaboration, when you are an anesthesiologist you will be in a OR with many other people in the medical field. Communication and interpersonal skills, when the time you spend with patients is usually in an emergency situations anesthesiologist must have good bedside manner and be able to establish rapport quickly. Being able to communicate calmly in an important, intense situation is very critical. Physical stamina is also very much needed, with working long shifts you need to be able to stay awake. (woke.chron.com) Employment look out of anesthesiologist to grow is 21% from 2014-2024, while only 18% from 2012-2022. According to Bureau of Labor Statistic the average annual salary for a CRNA is $160,250. More CRNA’s are finding opportunities that are were previously only available to anesthesiologist, and since CRNAs can practice independently this threatens the job security of anesthesiology.
