When people think of the woman Pat Summit they think of a woman dressed from head to town in the that Tennessee orange, yelling at her players from the sideling. She was the head coach of the University of Tennessee Lady Volunteers basketball, Summitt worked her players to earn more victories than any other coach has ever earned in the history of collegiate basketball- including both men’s and women’s. Now she is face to face with her toughest opponent yet. When 2011 approached she was diagnosed with early-onset Alzeheimer’s .Upon her diagnosis she said she was in disbelief when she was diagnosed, but knew what she was facing and wanted to put it out there. She made her diagnosis public with the first story she tells which is in her memoir, Sum it up. Summitts story memoir tells her life story even when the details start to fade away. She demonstrated that on the farm they had a dairy farm, and cows and that she had to milk them at 5 am and 5 pm. Her parents made it clear for all the children to know exactly what they had to do when they went to work. Something that she was grateful for while growing up. All the hard work she put in on the farm transferred into hard play. Summit would race on country roads, and play basketball games in the barn. She first saw equality on the court when she shot hoops with her brothers, not one of them was bothered by the fact that she was a girl, it simply meant that she was treated as one of the guys and no one let her off easy.
