One must understate what a substantive discussion post entails before I can write such an assignment. First our terms need to be defined and understood prior to setting criteria to fulfill such a discussion. The word substantive means “possessing substance; having practical, important, value or effect” while discussion is defined as “to take or have a part or share, as with other”. These word basically mean the discussion between students within the forum have solid substance. The components that make up a post should meet the following criteria: integrating course theory, demonstrate deep or broader thought, encourage further discussion, ask relevant questions, and all in a professional tone and manner (S. Berges, post). The minimal …show more content…
After analyzing my own post I have come to the following conclusions. As for meeting the minimal requirements this has been meeting or exceeded. The content within the post in some discussion were not applicable to the answering of the question or do not have course objective in mind. Stopping and re-reading the posts are needed to prevent this, also asking pert anent questions to the professor before starting the assignment. In regard to spelling, grammar, and punctuation in the writing medium these are my weaknesses which needs to be scrutinized prior to assignment submission. Lastly, the possible plagiarism issue in my writing needs to be addressed. Not being familiar with the APA style of citation and the changes over the years on what is and is not considered citationable is daunting and the consequences overwhelming. I have tried to look up citations on the Purdue OWL Citation website and apply the accordingly. More research and instruction in the basic information arena is needed in this area. If there was a reliable printed book pertaining to APA formatting that I could purchase would assist me as I continue to wade through this
APA style is very important in all types of careers and school papers and research papers. The importance for this style paper is because it is usually seven pages long and the paper gives specific information and easy way to access the information. If you’re looking for something specific the headings in the paper help you know where to look without going through everything.
APA (American Psychological Association) style is primarily used in the social science disciplines. It is formatted like MLA, and shows many similarities, but is unique in several key points.
MLA, in which this essay has been written, is most commonly used in the study of literature and humanities. This is because of a variety of factors within the format that allow the author to display their information in a fashion that seamlessly flows. APA, unlike MLA, labels when the topic or subject
English 1302 has presented the tools to learn new skills that will be beneficial in upcoming English courses I will be taking. The first of these is learning how to write in APA format. Until taking this course, I had only been taught how to write a
Everyone has experienced some type of stress in their life. Whether it has been from work, school, or troubles at home, stress is stress. If anyone had played sports in high school, you know the challenge of balancing school and sports. Imagine that stress, then multiply it exponentially. Everyone knows that college is a much more rigorous version of high school. The only reason some athletes made it to college is due to scholarships for their performance on the field. If they don’t perform well on the field, that scholarship might get cut. This makes practicing the athletes main priority. However, college athletes have to concentrate on their grades so they don’t drop out of college. These athletes know they may not make it to the pro’s, so they know they have to have a back up plan. This back up plan is called a college degree. So college athletes have to concentrate both on sports and classes. Sounds kind of challenging. This is why I believe student athletes should be allowed to miss classes occasionally due to their sport. Athletes are under much more stress, are required to attend practices and classes, and complete their homework. This is simply impossible to do, at least for a human. I believe that this is an important topic because it affects all college athletes.
I now understand how to format a paper and the importance of an outline. English 111 has helped me see the difference in the quality of papers I wrote in high school compared to the quality paper expected in college. When writing my Argumentative Essay I put much more effort into my outline than I did for any other paper in this class. Writing an outline improved my paper in ways I did not take advantage of on earlier assignments. Before this class I never spent time on an outline and considered outlines a waste of time. I now see how helpful an outline can be and plan to use one for papers going forward. The skill area I most improved on from our midterm project has been citations. I have utilized the “Cite It” link from the James Library for MLA style on both of my final papers for this class. The guide provided through the James Library gave many examples which helped me visually see the difference in what was expected. By using this resource I not only improved on MLA format for our class, but also improved upon the APA format for my Sociology
All I had ever known was MLA so it was quite a shock when I found out I would have to learn how to cite in APA. The first thing I did when I found out how we were going to cite our papers was go to Easybib to have the website to it for me. Turns out Easybib wants you to pay them if you want your sources cited in APA format. Once I found that out I scoured the web to find a website that could do it for me. I could not find a dependable site anywhere so I had to go look in the english book on how to cite. When I got to the section on citing sources in my book I realized that this is where I should have went right from the start. The book had every type of citation you would ever have to use. But even after I found out how to properly cite my sources, it was still another question for me
Procedure of research conducted in early semesters whereas 35 students followed a pretest to identify their knowledge about plagiarism. The participants completed paraphrasing assignment continuously in over the next 6 weeks with 100 to 125 words in each assignment and they were provided a citation in APA style right after the post test. This ended by the post test which was done immediately after they finished with their six-week practice.
Time sure does fly; in the blink of an eye, yet another 7.5-week class has come and gone. Just like life, it is scary to think that in just a few short years I will be graduating college and be in search of a future career. The magnitudes of readings, assignments, PowerPoint lectures, and videos have all contributed to the valuable knowledge I have gained since taking this course. Nothing that was presented or required was seen as invaluable towards my progression of career development. This career development course has allowed me to do some self-exploration, career research, and help me understand what influencing factors were related to the job market. Ultimately, this class helped me gauge and find a suitable career path, which will forever shape my future.
In this essay I chose to write about how issues like mental health effect veterans as a community. I discussed major issues like homelessness, suicide, unemployment, and disability and how they affect the mental health of veterans. This was the first essay where we had to focus on citations. I had a hard time figuring out at first, but by the end I feel I had a good handle on them. With this essay I focused more on improving the issues that I had issues with on the first essay. That tactic was successful, I ended up with a 142/150. Which is a huge improvement, having the ability to know exactly what your issue is when it comes to writing makes it very easy to fix that
Sequence: I use sequence first in all areas of my life such as school, work and also personal relationships. I need step by step direction before I can start any tasks and delivers what is expected of me. I am well-ordered, very detailed oriented and I like to know what is going to happen next. High school has been a very interesting experience for me. It has definitely had its highs and lows and many confusing experiences in between. Overall, I feel like I have been equipped for not only college, but also life as a whole. High school has taught me many things, both academically and emotionally. It has revealed and exposed my true colors, both good and bad, and as a result, has built many aspects of my character. My experiences at Alameda High school and Alameda Community Learning Center have shaped me into the person that I am today.
What is the benefit of a well-written and carefully designed discussion? The discussion section of a paper is where the researchers summarize and connect the purpose of the research with the results. The discuss section highlights the significance, strengths and limitations of the research. The benefit of a well-written and carefully designed discussion is that readers gain a clear understanding of the results and how they relate to the purpose.
Discussion topics could include overcoming challenges, respecting each
