In the beginning of this semester, English 1302 seemed as though it would be the subject that would be the toughest for me to pass. The pace, the work load and everything in between seemed overwhelming for me. As time proceeded to pass, the course didn’t seem as overpowering. By taking the work one step at a time, it simply became another step to achieve the overall goal of this first half of the semester. I have made improvements as well as learned lessons from my mistakes made along the way. English 1302 has presented the tools to learn new skills that will be beneficial in upcoming English courses I will be taking. The first of these is learning how to write in APA format. Until taking this course, I had only been taught how to write a
In English 1102, I was exposed to a variety of different genres, including, argumentative research paper, an annotated bibliography, an analytical paper, and a workplace specific piece. Entering this class the majority of papers I had written were all analytical, and in this class we went above and beyond the basic 5 paragraph essay. Though each paper had a different genre and style, I learned that each project was similar in composition.
English 1302 has been a valuable learning experience. It has helped me improve my writing skills and build an outline for my writing assignments. Also, it has allowed me to gain more confidence in my writing by being able to develop and express my ideas more clearly. If I could continue with this course, I would. The literature review was an assignment that allowed me to correct a lot of my writing mistakes, such as not having a proper outline to follow, and word choice. For example, on my first literature review draft one of my topic sentences reads “Stem cells have brought hope to cancer patients….” transformed into “Research has shown that stem cells have brought hope to cancer patients....”The first year writing textbook helped me alot in completing most of my assignments. The examples available on the textbook are a wonderful tool. In the researched argument, I learned how to process a more
I have learned a lot so far in English 1101, about myself and about writing. I have discovered that it is sometimes difficult for me to find topics to write about, but once I get an idea it is very easy for me to start writing. English has always been one of the subjects that I tend to struggle with, but this class has helped me realize that I actually enjoy writing. I have never really been able to write a lot about topics of my choice in the past. I am more accustomed to writing papers related to one specific topic. This class gives you a prompt to write about, but you are generally able to expand on that and choose your own topic as long as it relates to the prompt.
Transitioning from high school to college can be overwhelming. Before English 1301, I thought that I did not have to worry about being prepared for college. I quickly realized that my little background in writing essays was not going to be enough for college. Writing is not just something that I will use in English classes. In college, I will have to use effective writing skills in all my classes to complete research papers, essay tests and communicate to professors. Throughout my education, writing strategies persisted to be something that did not come easy to me. I dreaded writing because I could never find ways to get my thoughts down on paper. Ironically, a class that petrified me due to the amount of writing that was required ended up helping me in so many ways. English 1301 and my professor prepared me so much for college and real life.
During the English 160 course, I improved my approach to writing and developing papers, build on critical reading and grammatical skills, and exceed my previous abilities to write a strong paper as I took into consideration different genre based audiences. If my improvement does not exemplify my determination to learn and prepare for English 161, then I politely request you review my portfolio.
Chapter 3 of the APA Publication Manual was a reminder of many grammatical and writing issues need to be focused on when writing manuscripts and reports. As a professional it is important to know how to be clear and concise in what is being said. It is important to understand that as a school counselor writing and precision are necessary. Chapter 3 focuses on the organization, writing style, reduction of bias in language, grammar and grammar usage.
My analysis over the development of my writing throughout this semester. I will assess many aspects of my experiences with English 1301 up to this point in the semester. I will explain the ways by which I have blossomed as a writer during this time. I will provide brief examples of my work to show what I am basing the evaluation of my writing on. What my conceptions of writing were, at the start of, the semester and compare it to what they are now. I will clarify how my work this semester reflects the concepts of writing and reading we have been working on and studying in class. I will tell about what and how particular reading assignments have been influential in my growth of creative ideas. Lastly, my interpretation of what it means to be a writer, and how my experiences this semester has influenced my opinion on writing.
Looking back at my time from English 112 gave me a greater feel and look at what kind of writer I am ultimately am. While going through my senior year of high school and taking a college level class I was skeptical if I was even able to accomplish that high of a writing requirement but to my surprise I fought my way through. In my journey of fighting until the end I learned a good amount about myself that even if I wasn’t feeling up to writing the five page papers that we had to write I always found myself doing them at the end. Seeing this made me realize that I’m the kind of person who will finish the task given to them on the day it is due no matter what my mood or condition is because it is my duty to show that I’m responsible enough to
Writing has always been a way to express, an elaborate the world of creativity. By taking these English courses, I have accomplished a variety goal that has made me grow as a person, but there are still many areas in writing that I still need to focus on. Now having a stable base in English I can further improve in the areas I do not excel at by taking English 1302. By realizing that the skills I will acquire in this English course, it would benefits fit me later in my life.
When I first heard that I had to take English 110, I was frightened. I had Doctor McDonald my first term at CBU for Introductory to English. This lady deposited English fears in me that had me never wanting to take English or see anything with the word English in it. Every paper I wrote my first term for her class was never good enough, it either had punctuation errors, grammar errors, didn’t make sense or the story was boring to her. This woman crushed everything in me that wanted to one day pursue being a writer. When I completed her class, I was depressed and stressed to the max, pleasing her was like trying to please my family. I got extremely sick, and after week 6 I was about ready to give up. Professor Rivera my orientation teacher, and my advisor Mrs. Erica continued to encourage me.

One of my personal goals in PC700 was to become more familiar with APA writing skills using the APA manual. Although I feel I still have much to learn when it comes to writing and using APA, I do have an increase in confidence when comparing to the beginning of this semester. I was able to effectively label common areas on the
Since the first day of this course, I learned new things every week that I hadn't learned before such as how to use APA style of citations, How to write a thesis and how to differentiate between the strong and weak source. I've made many mistakes with my assignments, so I will do my best to avoid them and will work to improve my skills by reading more in English. The most things I loved are writing an essay and the reading assignments as it helped me develop my critical thinking and reading, and substantive response. I will try to apply all these moral lessons I learned during reading assignments to my life.
At first I was ashamed to admit it, but now I am grateful. While this last reason is personal and I do not recommend it. It was something I had to do as student and as a son. When I failed English 1301 last semester I was full of regret. All the late nights parting and skipping class got me nowhere. I refused listen to any of the lessons because I felt that I already knew the information and I did not take the time to do any homework or assignments. I lacked the experience and the learnings to prepare me for 1302 therefore I had to repeat the course. Moreover, being the first in my immediate family to go to college I had to take the course again as a son to prove to my mother and faher that failure is not an option. This semester I looked up to some of my other professors for advice and tips to help better me as a student. Some of these tips included taking helpful notes, going to bed earlier, and attending labs to review material went over in class. These little tips not only made me a more confident student but made me a overall better student. Therefore I am thrilled I had the chance to Repeat English 1301 because I knew now that I would not cheat myself of from my education. Doing my best to avoide all the mistakes I made last semsester I was able to fully larn all the material in Englis 1301 and now I feel ready to move forward to more advanced
