I choose to meet with my academic advisor for one of my campus involvement assignment. My advisor is Stacy. I meet with her before when I was registering for class at the being of the semester. I wanted to talk to her mostly about how I wanted to attend the University of Minnesota, The Carson School of Business. My goal is the get a degree in human resource management. It’s been my ultimate goal since I was I high school. Stacy informed me that Carson was extremely competitive to get into. She seemed to have a negative view on me wanting to attended Carson. She made it sound like it was an imposable goal. I told her all I needed from her was to tell me what classes I should be taking what my G.P.A should be, and the rest of the requirement. …show more content…
His name was john and he was really nice. I wasn’t sure exactly what his job description was so we started our conversation with that. He explained to me that he was here to help people with their home life, and if they were having problem on campus with peers or staff. We talked about who disappointed we were about the election. I told him how I wanted to attending Corson school of business. He told me the same thing that Stacy said that it was extremely competitive to get into and make sure that I have a backup plan. He told me that I should consider St. Thomas. I told him that I wasn’t sure if I could afford it. He told me to be open mined and look into St. Thomas that with all the scholarship that they offer it would be the same as The University of Minnesota. John also attended St. Thomas and he said he payed the same amount he would have if he went to the U of M. He explained to me that Stacy wasn’t trying to be rude she just wanted me to make sure I have a backup plan. We talked about my family a little bit. I told him how I am the guardian for my dad and how he had a stork in 2008 causing he to be paralyzed. It was really easy to talk with him. Juanita is constantly questioning her decision to pursue her degree whether it’s questioning if the decision is selfish since her children will be college age soon or if she can even be a decent mental health professional. Juanita needs to address her lingering feelings of doubt in order to feel secure in her own self-image and develop a realistic knowledge of her strengths and weaknesses so she can focus on fulfilling her potential without being held back with feelings of inadequacy (Schultz & Schultz, 2013, p.
It is crucial to recognize how important it is for a social worker to apply the proper engagement strategy. Every person is different, so not every engagement strategy works for everyone. In order to engage effectively, a social worker would have to consider the client’s strengths, challenges, and countertransference from the social worker toward the client. The case that will be examined is an 87-year-old Iranian Muslim male who is being treated for end -stage liver cancer and does not speak English. It would be important to engage with the client and his family in a compassionate and effective manner as well as with the respect for their culture, religion, and spiritual beliefs.
This was my first time ever interviewing a professor. I had interviewed students before, but it was never as intimidating as interviewing a professor. I thought that the professor would in a way rush through the interview, but I was wrong. My professor listened and made sure that all my questions were answered, and after the interview, I felt that there is more than just students to go to when help is needed professors are always there too. I do not regret giving the interview, for it was a new experience and I found it very helpful. I was personally evaluated by a professor. It felt good to know that there are certain things I need to work on in order to be more successful. I wasn 't let down at all I took the evaluations as advice, and I love good advice. I now feel that I could go up to any professor and not worry about the feeling of being intimidated. This interview showed me how much the professors care for my overall well-being both inside and outside of college. I learned that professors know a lot and they also have a lot of advice to give. I was also told to make sure that I plan things out before hand instead of just adjusting to them as they came up. I was surprised when the professor told me to make sure that I know how a lot of things work in college, and that I shouldn’t wait until my senior year to learn new things, for that 's the mistake he made. With good explanation,

...lorida and that he bought a house. He told me I could stay over when I go down there. I say, “okay” just to be polite. He gave me his number and he asked me for mine. I thought “ I do not want to give you my number, are you crazy?” So I told him I had to go to class, I’ll call him when I go to Florida.
Motivational interviewing is a guiding system that aide’s individuals to resolve conflicted affections and insecurities with finding interior inspiration to change their conduct. It is difficult in a school setting to teach where students come to class each day not enthusiastic about what they are expected to do and without the basic foundation to perform the tasks. From a psychological perspective, student disengagement is associated with situational threats to feelings of competence, self-determination, and/or relatedness to valued others (Deci & Ryan, 1985). Most students enter kindergarten with a healthy curiosity and a desire to learn to read and write. By the end of 2nd grade, we start seeing the first referrals by classroom teachers because of learning and behavior problems. From that point on, increasing numbers of students become disengaged from classroom learning, and most of these manifest from some form of behavioral and/or emotional problems.
After meeting the principal I was taken to meet my fellow co-workers. I met first the head janitor, named Jim. He was very tall, and not very muscular. He was an amazingly friendly man, and I could tell he was passionate about his job, but was very restrained socially because of the people he was forced to communicate with on a daily basis.
He would always thank me for the service, tasks that I would do, and he was the first resident to have an impact on my life. Every time I saw him he would tell my not to do drugs, alcohol or join a gang. My mother was very fond of him because of the life lessons and tips he would tell me that my mom had tried to drill into my head. He would always tell stories about his past and no matter how tired or bored I was; I gave him all my attention because I knew it made him happy. Before I met him I was a stereotypical teenager very quiet and shy, but he broke the ice and stated to interact with me. During my time with Mr. Renderos I taught myself how to interact with others, take care and respect them. The ability of interact and work with others is a necessary skill for life; school projects require a person to work with others in order to be a successful team and is later transferred into the working world were a person has to work with others on a daily basis. Yet after all that I have learned; I felt I had achieved something that I have never felt. And that was
Theater 180 addressed the quest question of how do people understand and engage in community life? Through this class I’ve gained a better understanding of what civic engagement is. At the start of this semester I had very minimal knowledge about civic engagement. As far as I knew civic engagement was just volunteering but nothing much beyond that. With this class I have learned that civic engagement is much more than just volunteer work.
The student involvement fair took place in front of the Student Union with dozens of organizations. Toledo’s campus has Greek Life, Engineers Without Borders, UT Lift Off, and many more supportive organizations. After walking for around the area for a while, I came across a small table with only two girls attending it. I came across the University of Toledo’s NSSLHA, the National Student Speech Language Hearing Association.
In the 21st century, teachers experience many behavioral issues with students in the classroom and face challenges that are very difficult to resolve. School districts have different expectations about how students must behave during school and teachers have their own expectations about how students must behave in their classroom. Every educator has different classroom expectations and students must follow specific standards; therefore, the responsibility of the teacher is to discuss the standards with all students and make sure those expectations are clear. According to Jones and Jones (2016), teachers whose students made greater achievement gains were observed establishing rules and procedures, and carefully monitoring student’s work. In
I had been sitting there wondering (probably unlike all of the other kids who were at State University Orientation) what kind of guy I was going to look for when I arrived a month later to attend classes. Everyone else was talking with their parents about their class choices and housing contracts. Some were even asking the experts at the podium questions about the university. But this was way beyond me because I had more important things on my mind.
Supporting respondents is a priority for their success. While attending the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, Academic Success and Engaged Citizenship has been the main two reasons why I was able to have optimal success thus far. While living in FAR my freshman year, I interacted countless times with not only my immediate floor community, but also communities that were in my area such as PAR. Activities included tea times, solango, movie viewings and open discussions about what we could do to become well-rounded individuals and students. Being engaged in these activities, I was able to understand and engage in conversation with peers to enhance my academic success and evaluate resources that would be available for me utilize around campus
Since I was coming from a small private school, I was very intimated by the idea of going to a large high school. I first met with a guidance counselor before I started my first day. He asked me about my previous school and any anxiety I had about my new school. When the halls were mostly empty, he showed me where each of my classrooms were, located my locker (let me practice my locker combination), and showed me the lunch room and gym. After we went back to his office, he asked me what my least favorite class subject was that I had on my calendar and scheduled a check-in session during part of that class period. The time he spent with me during my first quarter was so helpful in my adjustment to my new school. Having an adult treat and talk to me like I had good ideas or meaningful information to share was empowering. His empathy and compassion were particularly meaningful when a friend committed suicide the following
