Stricter Gun Control Laws

Over the past few years there has been many school shootings and violent incidents involving the use of guns. There has been a lasting debate on whether or not to increase gun control to reduce crimes involving guns. To reduce this violence there should be stricter gun control laws in place to slow down the huge number of gun related injuries.

America, in comparison to the world, has the highest amount of gun related deaths in the world. In Japan 39, Australia 65, United Kingdom 68, Canada 165, France 225, Germany 381 and in the United States, 11,127. This shows how America needs gun control laws in order to lower these ugly numbers. This number is only going to increase unless we do something about it.

According to Gun Violence Archive,

alone in the year of 2016 there has been 5,221 gun incidents. Of those, 1,334 people were killed and 2,678 were injured. On an even sadder note, there has been 54 children ages 0-11 who have been either killed or injured in gun violence. Gun control is a problem that doesn't seem to be going away unless we put something into play that could slow these numbers down.

To reduce gun violence as a nation we need to establish a culture of gun safety. As the nation with the highest number of guns, there needs to be mandatory training and licensing along with safe and secure gun storage. This shouldn't be a one time thing. There should be consistent requirements and renewing to own a gun. Along with culture we need sensible gun laws. We need to ban indefinitely high capacity magazines and increase the 24 hour background checks on gun owners. By doing so we can make our schools, parks, movie theaters, and communities more safe and secure.
