A strict dress code or uniforms have many benefits in the school system. They will protect students from bullies, and crime while ending distraction. All schools, elementary, middle and high, should have a strict dress code or uniforms to keep students paying attention in school and to keep them safe. Furthermore, dress code or uniforms are needed in every school, because if someone is not dressed properly, it can be distracting to other students. If a student …show more content…
Bullying can happen when a student might not be able to afford the name brand clothes, or they just want to wear different clothing. This sets them apart from other students, making them easier targets for bullies. With dress codes and uniforms, “It’s harder to discern the differences in socio-economic background.” (Luscombe). However, “People who can’t afford new uniforms can purchase pre-loathed ones, with the money going to fund school programs.” (Luscombe). Uniforms can also prevent bulling because “With a strategically chosen uniform, body type disappears. And it’s hard to distinguish who is cool and who is not.”`(Luscombe) Uniforms and dress codes level the playing field when it comes to clothing differences. It makes it harder for the bully to pick on a student 's clothes when they are wearing the same or similar clothing (Luscombe). This means that bullies have less to pick on the other kid about, though there will still be bullies in schools with dress codes and uniforms. There are bullies everywhere who will pick on a kid because of their looks or personality. Coble …show more content…
There are still ways for students to express themselves in school. Students can still stand out and express themselves by their book bags, hair and shoes. The dress codes control a lot of things, but not everything. It is more important for the students to become better citizens than not wearing their favorite clothes at school. Their is also this benefit “What does a person wear after they get to choose their own clothes for almost the first time in their sentient life? Anything they d*** well want.”(Luscombe) Overall, schools throughout the world could benefit from a dress code or uniforms. Uniforms are more strict then dress codes, making them more effective. Students can still get away with a lot when only a dress code is implemented. Their will be more bullying an crimes. However, dress codes are better then nothing at all. It is important to avoid inappropriate clothing that distracts learning and it is important to have a united school where kids feel they belong. More benefits consist of safety, with less crimes of stealing and
Dress codes are essentials for all schools across America. Dress codes will set the tone for students to be safe because they will help reduce violence, increase student safety, and provide a positive learning environment.
If there were dress codes in school, it would eliminate violence and bullying. If there was a kid who liked to wear a different style of clothing then others, then he would probably get teased or maybe even get beaten up. Also, it reduces violence and makes students behave better because it makes everyone equal, bringing all of the students to the same level. "A dress code brings us together, like an athletic team. We're unified, we stand for the same things," said Bob Sanders, a teacher at Anti...
The Dress Code is also to help from distractions like weird, strange clothes, it often distracts the students from learning. Not only that, but in High School there is large groups of gangs, and they can’t wear clothing that represents them and wear anything offensive, because then less violence will occur.
One main reason public schools have uniforms / dress code is because in 1996, President Clinton allowed the school uniform movement and said, “If it means teenagers will stop killing each other over designer jackets, then our public schools should be able to require their students to wear school uniforms.” This gave schools the power to control the students with dress code. A few pros about having dress code in public schools are prevention from formation of gangs, identify intruders, resist peer pressure, and take away social barriers. But the cons give more reasons on why not to have dress code. Some are violation of freedom of expression, “Band-Aid” on school violence, bully targets, financial issue for certain families, and difficult to enforce. Dress code can vary from a button down solid polo with a tie, to solid colors, navy / khaki pants, to any polo shirt without offensive print / sayings and unholy jeans. Dress code also can exclude tattoos, baggy clothes, holes, scarves, leggings, strapless garments, and visible piercings (except in ear).
Many schools have dress codes or uniforms, but in some situations the dress codes are tossed to the side and not worried about. However, dress codes should be implemented in schools for more than just safety reasons. Dress
Do schools really need a dress code? Just ask parents of kids who have to wear them and they will probably say yes. With the dress code policy parents would be able o save money on clothes for their children(Dress 1). This would be a big help for children with poor families who cant afford the proper clothes for them to wear. In addition, with uniforms these kids wont are looked at any different than everyone else because they will have the same dress attire. While I was attending high school there were no school uniforms and there were always trouble surrounding it. People would get made fun of for wearing clothes that people felt weren't appropriate. Some of the people would wear black dresses and paint their fingernails and wear lipstick. Others would just dress nicely. These different groups didn't like each other just by the way each of them dressed. They would use names such as freaks nerds jocks and devil worshipers to describe each other. No one knows if they were just expressing them selves or what but with uniforms these problems wouldn't
Are dress codes and uniforms needed or not? Some parents, teachers, and school boards think that by telling kids what to wear will improve behavior, safety, and will make them into better adults ready for the work life. Some even say it makes bullying less of a problem. What makes people think by telling kids what to wear will make any type of improvement? Dress codes and uniforms are not needed in the school systems because it is against the First Amendment, does not stop bullying, and takes away some qualities employers look for in the people they hire.
It is a great idea for schools to implement a policy on school uniforms because statistics show that students who wear uniforms make better grades. Additionally, male students are not distracted by what female students are (or aren't) wearing. Moreover, students feel a sense of fairness with one another as they are all wearing the same things. When students are at one with one another, their confidence soars, which leads to better academic performance. Student uniforms help reduce the amount of bullying, and students who would normally be bullied now have a much better disposition while at school.
School uniforms are a way for principals to know who belongs on campus and who does not. A while back, researchers studied that the reason certain school require students to wear school uniforms is because they feel that it will help stop other students from bulling one another, just because they don’t have on high priced shoes or clothing it shouldn 't stop them from doing what they do best. "The good thing is people judge you on your inner characteristics rather than what you wear," said Nick Duran, an 8th grader and the student-body president at Rogers Middle School (Portner)." Safety is they key, when students enter the school ground, they should feel safe and not think that someone is going to harm them. Students feel as if they have to wear school uniforms it will
Since the 1990 's schools have reported amazing results by mandating a school uniform policy. Konheim-Kalkstein, Y. L (2006) write: “ School uniforms, proponents have said, can lead to improved discipline and classroom behavior, increased school attendance, respect for teachers, better school performance, higher student self-esteem and confidence, lower
We see stories Social media has more stories of girls being sent home because of dress code violations. Maybe the problem isn’t the students, but dress codes in general. Dress codes ultimately disrupt the pursuit of knowledge for the students, encourage gender bias, and can be dangerous. If we want the younger generations to succeed in the education system, we should utilize school uniforms. Uniforms in schools from elementary to high schools, will promote gender equality and facilitate student safety.
When a child knows what is expected of them, as far as dress goes, it helps with distractions in the classroom. Uniforms ecourage modesty and also reduces the need for discipline from teachers because a student is not following dress code. When uniforms are in place, children come to class looking professional which can promote a better learning environment. The last and possibly the most important reason why I believe school uniforms are necessary is for social equality.
(“Quotes about Uniform Policy” 1). Theodore R. Mitchell, UCLA School of Education says, "I think its great news for all of us who have advocated school uniforms as a way of building community.” A pressing issue, bullying has become a big problem in many school, and to eliminate this problem, school policies should require students to wear uniforms. Many people believe that school uniforms build the community into a safer, more positive environment. School uniforms improve school academics, prevent gang violence, and assist families, who can not afford expensive clothing.
By requiring school uniforms in public schools, education will be improved. A dress code will enforce discipline toward learning. Uniforms improve a person’s outlook toward success. Students generally act the way they are dressed. With fewer distractions, students see the school as a workplace for teaching and learning. Students also have less stress in their lives because they are not in a fashion competition. Dress codes also lead to a change in grades. Mainly this happens because the student’s attendance comes up. There is also a change in grades because it is easier to focus when everyone looks alike.
Choosing what to wear for the day. This is what most students are thinking about when they wake up. Students need the latest fashion in order to fit in, but some clothing may not be acceptable to wear in school. School dress codes are denying students their right to dress how they want, but the dress code is important for the students and their learning. Students are beginning to stand up and want to be heard. Some students are taking action and want the dress code to become less strict but some schools are doing the opposite for safety issues and for the students healthy learning environment. Dress codes are important for a strong and healthy learning environment and is also reducing violence in many schools around the country.
