The two stories "Brothers are the Same" by Beryl Markham and "Through the Tunnel" by Doris Lessing are both about growing up and entering adulthood. " Brothers are the Same" about a boy named Temas trying to prove he was tough and could be called an adult. In a similar situation in "Through the Tunnel" a young boy named Jerry is determined to go through an underwater tunnel that he saw some older French boys go through. He wants to accomplish this goal to prove to himself that he can do it. The two stories share a similar theme, but the authors perspective on the topic differs.
In both books, these two gangs decide to have a rumble, a fight with all the members of the two gangs. This is one similarity between these books.
Because this theme is so prevalent in the work and because The Piano Lesson is a short drama, the most important point of comparison between Berniece and Boy Willie is how they manage their family history. The central conflict of the story is between these two characters who are at war over use of their family legacy. In this drama, family legacy takes the shape of a large piano with expertly carved scenes of the siblings’ family history. Their great-grandfather had etched the scenes into the wood while in the home of his former master and the family had sacrificed much to attain the instrument after their emancipation. This symbol is invaluable to the plot because it symbolizes not only their family, but the family sacrifice, freedom, and legacy. Both Berniece and Boy Willie understand the symbolism of the piano, but where Berniece wants to keep the piano untouched and perfectly preserved, thus preservi...
Some similarities are obviously that they are both slaves who are trying to escape their misery. The characters also have a good relationship with their fathers because they taught them how to care for themselves and what to do when they need
...remely complex and impregnated by love and hate is the main similarity between the two texts. Sonny, through his music, is successful in changing his brother’s idea of what he is supposed to do with his life. Unfortunately for Donald, Pete is not and might never be ready to accept him as the human being he wants to be. Drugs are the biggest factor in Sonny’s failure to live and to become a good brother and a true artist. On the other hand, for Donald, the fact of him being unwilling to change who he is and the fact that his brother is always there to save him impedes him from being the brother Peter wants him to be. With or without understanding each other, the love that these brothers share for one another keeps them from completely disappearing from each other’s life regardless of their differences and the obstacles that characterize their complex relationship.
Two people with two completely different characteristics have something alike. Both Dally and Johnny are mentally tough because of their parents. Johnny and Dally’s parents both do not care for them and could care less about them. For example, during Dally’s childhood he went to jail, been in a gang, and has been in many fights and his dad still would not care for him even if he won the lottery. Dally also talks about his dad's disgrace towards him in the car with Johnny and Ponyboy, “‘ Shoot, my dad don’t give a hang whether I’m in jail or dead in a car wreck or drunk in a gutter...’”(88). Dally could easily live without his dad and he does for the most part. Dally just hangs around with his friends and stays at their place. Similarly, Johnny's parents use him like a rag doll to blow off steam, “his father always beating him up”(14). The gang knows what happenes in Johnny’s house. Once Ponyboy was witnessing, “Johnny take a whipping with a two-by-four from his old man”(33). Ponyboy talks about how loud and mean Johnny's mom is and,“you can...

The evil that is present in Victor and the monster is another example of similarity between the characters. This evil in both characters is caused, although not directly with Victor, by society. The monster tries to be accepted by society. He shows kindness toward society and he tries to help people. However, he is immediately rejected by society because of his ugly physical appearance. The evil and the anger present in the monster comes when the monster presents himself as a friend to a family that he has secretly helped. Instead of accepting the monster as one of their own, the family immediately sees the ugly form of the monster and rejects him.
In the two short stories The Boy Who Fought Hitler by Lauren Tarshis and Amira’s Song by Nora Raleigh Baskin are two different stories with the same theme. In the story The Boy Who Fought Hitler Ben is a Jew who was put in a camp but soon escaped the ghetto, then was living in the woods fighting for his life. On the other hand in the short story Amira’s Song Amira lived in Syria until one day Amira moved away even though a lot of her family lived in Syria. The theme between these two stories is that sometimes tough situations happen in life but you have to persevere through them.
Eventually, both stories have similar endings where most of the characters regret an action that changed their life. As a result of bad choices, they end up in the wrong paths. We are building our future every day by the choices we make, but some of them might lead us to events that can change us in a good or bad way.
As a case in point, the main characters differ in age. Greg (from “The Treasures of Lemon Brown”) is fourteen years old, as he mentions on page one. However Mike, from “The Moustache”, is seventeen, as stated on page one of his story as well. Furthermore, the individuals contrast by their parent relationships. Mike has a strong, healthy bond with his mother. He states, “...we have this great relationship...I know guys whose mothers love...them and all but there’s something missing in their relationship…” On the other hand, Greg has a decent tie with his father, as we see on page one. Conclusively, Mike and Greg contrast by who teaches
The two boys were both very ornery, mischievous, independent and resourceful. In the story it states “ I’ll behave, Snake-Eye, if you won’t send me home. And if you’ll let me play Black Scout today.”(O’Henry 67). This shows that Red Chief is very ornery, mischievous and resourceful because in the game he will make Bill his horse and carry him ninety miles to a fort and he’s independent because when they kidnapped him he was alone and they say he didn’t seem like a stay at home type. In the movie Kevin used household items to defend his house from the criminal all by himself which shows that he is resourceful and independent. He also liked to mess with the criminals a lot which proves that he is ornery and mischievous. In both of the story’s the criminals had one “Mastermind” and they had the “Muscle”. Some of the traits that the criminals share are unsuccessful and criminals. In the story the author said “Sam and Bill are two sharp con men”(O’Henry 61). This shows that they are criminals because they are con men and they are unsuccessful because they have to con people. In the movie the thieves attempted to rob many houses in little Kevin’s neighborhood but they were later arrested by the police. This proves that the thieves were criminals since they were trying to rob house and they were unsuccessful because they were arrested by the
