While walking down the side of the street downtown, you notice a young man wearing very exotic clothes. You find his clothes inappropriate, and would be very embarrassed if you were walking with him. You might say to a friend, “Who let him out of the house like that?” How many times do you see yourself doing these things? We all often judge others based on what they wear. Without knowing the person or the situation at all, we jump to conclusions and make stereotypes about people’s appearances everyday. Although all of these conclusions may not be entirely true, the way someone exhibits themselves in public definitely causes people to attempt to judge something about their character based on their character. People often wear their favorite sports gear to reveal that they either like a certain sports team, play a certain sport, or to show their support for a certain sport or team. In that way, people can make assumptions of people just by what they wear, but they can even take that too far. For example, if I wear a LeBron James t-shirt into downtown Chicago, people might start holding grudges against me just because they love the Bulls, but I obviously support LeBron. Without knowing my name or anything about me, they will judge my character and make assumptions about me based on my sports attire.
Another way people can identify something about themselves in an outgoing way would be when someone will support a certain movement or business by appearing with something about that specific group. People wear clothes that say things such as “Stand Up to Cancer” or “Stomp the R Word” in order to get a message across to people. This reveals their ideas in a positive way to everyone that sees them and takes the time to identify their attire. In this way, people are trying to exhibit something to their community by supporting something that they believe in on their physical
