Marie Kondo, a Japanese organizing consultant and author, sheds light on the notion that if a person were to love their clothes, whether it be expensive or not, they would be able to sustain that pride with himself everyday: “If you fold your clothes in the formal spark of joy, you can actually make the joy last longer.” Albeit some may argue that personality has no correlation with the way a person dresses, the fact of the matter is that clothing choice can influence the way one acts on a specific day.
Furthermore, as Marie Kondo supports, with clothing comes the confidence that a person needs to be true to who they are and to think highly of him or herself as an individual. In general, one’s style of clothing can influence favorable feelings.

Clothing and personality are of importance because they go hand in hand by keeping an individual satisfied on an everyday basis. Everyone has their own attitude and sense of style, but regardless of the type of personality and clothing, they can affect the individual and those around them. Due to the denotation that society tends to tag along with divergent styles, affects an individual in the way that it can either construct a day memorable for affirmative or pessimistic reasons. Nicole Cooley emphasizes this idea in her article, “The Language of Clothes”, by relaying the experience of a little girl who found herself to be unattractive; consequently, composing dreadful days. There came a moment, though where this girl decided to wear her grandmother’s aged clothing, and through this she was able to see herself through her grandmother's eyes, now viewing someone beautiful and worthy of living (Cooley). Cooley expresses the fact that the clothing of one can affect their personality, explaining why so many people experience lousy days. A prime example being the little …show more content…
In life, a human experience numerous undertakings that may change their perspective negatively or positively on certain things. At times it may result in someone acting out of control, for say they lost a loved one that was close to them, it can result in someone losing their mind and acting in an insane way. Comparably to the way losing someone dear to you can affect your actions, the way humans dress can influence their personality. For example, Imani Briscoe states that occasionally people dislike their clothing due to the fact that it has no “wow” effect (Briscoe). If an individual were to wake up and dress themselves with basic clothing, it would place the individual in a cranky mood and as a result they would not be their usual self. As many may have experienced, sometimes people wake up and they put on clothes that they don’t genuinely have any interest in; therefore, the person goes about their day not feeling themselves because their attire does not represent their character and taste. As a result, a person will feel down throughout the day and they will behave differently by not socializing with those around them. One might usually hold conversations with their friends and laugh at random things, but when an individual associates themselves with clothes that don’t appeal to them, it can completely change a person’s
On the twenty-first of August, our Wearable History class took a trip to downtown Bowling Green, to visit Mosaic Confinement Studio. The studio had an old-fashioned vibe, and was like a vintage-garment haven. There, we were asked to choose a piece that we thought was vintage, identify the time period it actually came from, and also take some additional notes on the style and the garment’s details. After searching through multiple racks, the first piece I found was a lace blazer. It turned out to only be vintage-inspired, so I went searching again. I came across a few other pieces, but nothing was really jumping out at me. Eventually, I came across a lavender dress that immediately made me think of Julia Roberts in “Mystic Pizza”, and I knew I found my garment.
In the article, “The Fashion Industry: Free to Be an Individual” by Hanna Berry, Berry discusses how for decades women have been told to use certain products and that if they used those products they would be beautiful. Women over the years have believed this idea and would purchase items that promised to make them prettier, thinner, smarter and even more loved. However, in reality it was never what they wore on their bodies that helped them be any of those things; but what it did help with was to empower women to become fearless and bold by what they chose to wear on their bodies as a form of expression.
...societies go more clothing that allow them to move easily and are more aware of physical fitness and always looking for the freedom in everything and mainly movement. However, it stands to reason that while the existence of such weighty components has reduced greatly, their concepts have set an indisputable model that remains related and lasts to influence today’s fashion.
Since the beginning of time humans have worn clothing that defines their era, race, and personality. From a caveman wearing his favorite mammoth skin to a 1980’s righteous teen wearing her all time favorite bright orange neon retro blazers. Heartbreakingly, at the school of Putnam City North High, fashion has shot down the drain as teens decide to get dress blind folded every morning. As I look around the halls of sweats and dirty over-sized t-shirts, I am bombarded with the embarrassment of having these “fashion senses” be the look of our generation. These undressed, tacky, lazy wear must come to an end before our children look back on the classes of the late 2000’s with expressions of disgust as they wonder what the heck we were thinking.
The evolution of clothing has been drastically changed through the course of history, from the style to how they’re made. Women and men’s clothing changed at different rates. The way clothes are made reflect the style. Clothing always has been an important aspect of one’s culture as well as a representation of a time period. Overtime clothing has changed just as the people it clothes.
Young people need more attention or acceptance from others comparing with people at other stages, as youths are experiencing a process of being adults. The formation of identity can be exemplified through fashion. Young people tend to establish their identities through the way they dress. As Hall,S (1997) stated, visible objects, like clothes may have a simple physical function, that is to cover the body and protect it from weather, however clothes also have a function which can double up as signs, which construct a meaning and carry a message. Fashion can also be a language that makes clothing possible become a self-communicative device at our disposal, plays a...
Ever since their invention many centuries ago, clothes have been used as a way of communicating. The message communicated relies on a number of factors including the social background of both the communicator and the receiver, and the context in which the message is communicated. Although at times the exact message or symbolism one is trying to portray may not be clear, it is evident that clothing has long been embraced as one of the best ways to project one’s desired personal image to those around them.
Fashion plays an important role in the lives of billions all over the world; people, as part of a status craving society, turn to “fashion capitals” of the world for ways in which to dress and carry themselves. New York, Milan, and Paris are leaders among this fierce industry that the world lusts after. Fashion can speak volumes about ones personality, or also about the condition the world is in at the time. In France, fashion changed rapidly and feverously as the times changed.
Consumers today continue to be fascinated by personal appearance and fashion styles. Fashion, and the way we present ourselves through clothing
Clothing is something that defines a person, and allows society to have an outlook on an individual’s lifestyle and beliefs. Unlike criticizing other material things like a car, a home or even something as simple as a television set, criticism of clothing is very personal. This suggests that there is a high correlation between clothing and personal identity and values. (Breward, pg.1) Clothing in a sense has the ability to communicate thought. However, similarly to art interpretations, this does not mean that any two people will perceive these visual aesthetics similarly.
In conclusion, fashion will speak out a person’s social signal, people dress on designs that blend with their social class. Just as population, social activities and fashion are changing with time. Fashion has made clothing to be convinient, everything needs to be done with the least effort and spend the least time.

Fashion is a controversial issue in society nowadays. We live in a consumerism advanced era in which whether following fashion trends or not has become a debatable point. Many people believe that it is important to follow fashion trends. For example, Lord Chesterfield once said, “If you are not in fashion, you are nobody.” The question is why fashion should be an essential matter of concern to all of us. As far as I am concerned, each person should be able to decide if one wants to follow a trend or not.
