In this essay I will write about fairytales. Fairytales are always not true and they have always stereotypes about women and men. Sometimes they can be not true and not fair. One example is when women need to cleen the house , make food, wash clothes and many other things that you need to do at home. This is not always true, but it can be true. For men it is like they need to have money and keep the family safe. This is also not always true, but also it can be true. More spesifectly I will compare two cindirella stories which are the norway and the france story. The france trory is original and it’s name is only ”Cinderella” and the norway story is named totaly diferent: ”Katie wodencloak ”. They are mostly diferent, because in the katie wodencloak it is very much traveling and in the cinderella story is not. Travel My first diference is how they traveled. In the cinderella story cinderella went only to the palace but in the katie wodencloak story the bull and Katie wodencloak traveled very much to get away. So the most time in the Katie wodencloak story they were not at home like in the Cinderela story, but they almost always traveled. It was because the bull was helping katie wodencloak to eat, but her stepmother did not want that bull will help and wanted to kill him, so the bull and katie wodencloak went to a big journey. In the Fernch story it sais: ”Once there was a gentelmen who maried for his second vife”(p1) and in the Norway story it sais: once there was a king who became a widower (p1). So here you can see that it the same in two stories and it is bad for cindirella, because her stepmother is very bad and her dad can not do anything about it. So this efects the story very much. The history of this story, how scholars interpret this tale, and how the authors have retold the story are all key points to keeping this story fresh and popular. Although the Princess Bride is the classic fairy tale, Westley and Buttercup defy the gender roles set up by feminist theory. In this particular novel, some characters live up to the stereotypes set by society. However, most characters defy these particular stereotypes. Take Fezzik, for instance. He is strong in body but not mind. Or Westley. He defies this stereotype by being tender and kind-hearted toward Buttercup, even when Buttercup gets tired of waiting for him and marries Prince Humperdinck.

Hopkinson uses the narrator to spread the same moral as Perrault did three hundreds year ago, girls, especially younger inexperienced girls need to be careful when they encounter nice and charming men, because it could end in completely unwanted situation. This is the reason why the grandmother intervenes, she tries to complete her granddaughter's education by telling her her own story in which she can find advices that will save her to bear the same experience as her grandmother. Hopkinson provides a moral to reader through a modern and different tale, more adapted to nowadays reader but without weakening its quintessence.
Fairytales, the short stories that most children heard as they went to bed, are actually folktales from previous decades. The fairytales today are primarily adaptations of older versions recreated by Disney— the pioneers of this generation. With that said, the modern versions consistently display good triumphing over evil, a prince charming that constantly came to the rescue, and a happily ever after ending. However, the original folktale version didn’t always come with fortunate events, but often were more violent and gruesome. With the fairytale Cinderella, Disney maintains a similar theme as its Grimm version; however, the conflicts, events, and characters that support this idea are rather different.
Over centuries of children have been enjoying the classic fairy tales of the Grimm Brothers and Charles Perrault. The fanciful plots and the vivid details allow children to be entranced by characters and adventures that can only be found in these stories. One of the most beloved fairy tales, which both the Perrault and the Grimms have their own separate versions of, is Cinderella. Cinderella is able to show how both versions are able to feed off the same plots while personifying the century and social economic situation in which they have lived.
Shrek, an enormous, disgusting green ogre falling in love with a beautiful princess (later turning into a nasty ogre) is a perfect example of a stereotypical fairytale, right? Well in the movie Shrek, the voice over in the trailer talks about a “hero” attempting to rescue a “fair princess” with the help of “his trusty companion." Besides the fact that the hero is a voluptuous green ogre and the companion is a donkey, everything fits in normally to the definition of a traditional fairytale (Diaz). Also according to Mary Kunimitsu, in fantasy films “There may be characters with magical or supernatural abilities such as witches, wizards, superheroes, mythical creatures, talking animals, and ghosts” (Kunimitsu). In Shrek, there are many of these different characters. Therefore, by explanation, a traditional fairytale with the beautiful princess getting saved by the prince and falling in love is exactly what happens in the movie Shrek, just with a twist. The voice over in the trailer for Shrek states it perfectly as he says “Shrek is a highly irreverent take on the classic fairytale” (Adamson). As an untraditional fairytale, and a parody, the movie Shrek poses the breaking of stereotypes of gender and film fairytales all the while keeping the criteria of a fairytale.

This story is well known all around the world and has many different versions. This paper will specifically focus on the versions by Charles Perrault and Giambattista Basile. One cannot argue that while writing their individual version of Cinderella both Charles Perrault and Giambattista Basile were strongly influenced by the many other tales of Cinderella, and this can be seen by the repetitive plot line, character and morals in both their stories. There are many things one has learned from the experience, although the twelve versions of Cinderella are similar to each other but yet in some way they are different, which make it unique. Similar plot and similar circumstances however, different author with different minds. They are portraying with similar knowledge but the way the story may be told is different such as the characters names, locations, and the time it was created. No matter what it is I’ve learn that Cinderella will be Cinderella regardless of the different author, different time or different title. These creations of different versions is precisely similar to when one tells another person a story and is passed on to another person than the story will be shorten with less details and added with a few other exaggerations, in which will cause the stories to be different from each other.
A lot of the fairy tale stories that we have seen as young adults and even as adults are original folk tale stories that have been modified and rewritten to accommodate our new cultures. Cinderella happens to be one of these stories that have been changed over the years. There are many different versions of Cinderella, an African Cinderella, a Hungarian Cinderella and even a Chinese version. All of the Cinderella’s are similar in plot, but the author dictates the story’s theme based on the people whom he is writing for which completely changes the story’s tone, mood and other elements. While Perrault's version stresses the values and materialistic worries of his middle-class audience, Grimm’s' focus is on the harsh realities of life associated with the peasant culture. Perrault’s and Grimm’s Cinderella’s have the same plot, but their writing style is different which completely modifies the tale.
One interesting aspect is the conflicting role that the Cinderella of each of these narratives takes on. She is essentially a subservient maid who is abiding by the wishes of the master of the house, which in these cases is her stepmother. This situation is similar to the experiences that many children have with their parents, in particular the mother figure in a heteronormative, where they must obey the commands given to them. Some of these rules and orders may seem harsh from the child’s perspective, and there are potential feelings of wanting to disobey. However, parents are authoritative figures that wield that power in the relationship, especially at a young age. Like the different versions of Cinderella, they may want to rebel, but in an unnoticeable manner. Aschenputtel, Yeh-Shen, and Cinderella decide to go to the ball against their stepmothers’ wishes, which seems to reflect the desire children have to do what they wish despite their mothers’
