I want to begin this speech with a confession. I was going to just submit an assignment I wrote last year and call it done. However, I came across this story and knew I had so much more in me. One morning a little boy was walking along the beach, and he came to a part of the beach where thousands of starfish were washed up during a terrible storm the night before. Now he knew that the starfish would die if they were out of the water for too long. So when he passed by a starfish, he picked it up and threw it into the ocean. And people watched him with amusement. He’d been doing this for some time, and a man approached the little boy and said, “Young man, why are you doing this look at this beach? You can’t even begin to save all this starfish, and to be honest, you won’t even make a difference. …show more content…
And he looked back up at the man and replied, “Well, I made a difference in that one.” He was inspired and decided to join him and start throwing starfish back into the ocean. Many people joined in, and almost all the starfish were saved. So remember, when you hear a story like this, you're never too small to make a difference. 1 Timothy 4:12 says: Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, and purity. Don’t worry if the difference is a big difference or a small difference. The only difference you should be focused on is making a difference in the world. When it comes to you, how can you make a difference? How can you make a difference in the lives of
Stargirl was not like everyone else in Mica High. She was a unique individual with no restrictions to her own identity. But when Leo stressed the fact that she was so different, she undertook the task to change herself, for Leo’s sake. Even though Leo was euphoric with the new Susan Caraway, her shunning was not ebbed. The change did nothing for stargirl but cripple her jovial personality. Stargirl shouldn’t have changed herself for someone else’s motive, but should’ve kept herself the way she was, as your own happiness should be put before others, and there’s always someone that stays by your side no matter the notions made of you.
Since a child, Stargirl had always seemed a bit… off. Her parents seemed to adore her weirdness, they even seemed to encourage it at times. To demonstrate, her parents called her Pocketmouse. They used it to so much that even she started referring to herself as Pocketmouse instead of Susan. But did her parents ever do anything about it? Of course not. She kept the nickname, until she changed it to Mudpie. Then Hullygully. And then Stargirl. But at the time, I knew her as Mudpie.
The Red Lionfish (Pterois volitans) is an invasive saltwater predator that is increasing exponentially in the tropics of the western Atlantic (Benkwitt, 2013). The Lionfish invasion is causing a dramatic decline in native marine reef species due the gluttony of the lionfish.
School was coming to an end and I thought about how Scout’s teacher didn't want her to read. I couldn't stop reading I enjoyed it too much and so did scout, I wondered if I would have reacted the same way scout did. One day after coming home from school, I saw scout with a Big stash of gum. After she told me how she got it, I started thinking the worst since I am her older Brother. I knew to scout was stubborn and wasn't going to get rid of it so I threaten her by telling her that I would tell Cal which is a fight scout wasn't up to fight. Why would there be gum in a tree and why was it out of all places in the Radley tree? We waited until what was forever for school to be over and for Dill to come. After all Dill had become a close friend
"Why?" Juno's voice broke the silence it had been keeping. Her arms having latched on more to Adriel's resistant body. Her body wanted to burst out in an inferno of flames having this so close again but her brain was working twice or three times as hard to keep her cool in composer. But she knew he needed this.. like she needed his comfort on his birthday. The girl's face look at the man. Tears harvesting in his eyes and voice breaking with every word he took. He wanted to cry.... but didn't...maybe because of manly pride. Placing her forehead on his, Juno looked with her baby blues and slightly grin. "All immortals should just stay inside, read, and stare at walls for the rest of eternity."
I feel something brush over the top of my right foot. A sharp-tickling pain comes on the top of my foot. Quickly, I run out of the warm ocean water onto the dry sand. My mom notices something. “What is this?” she questioned. “It’s a jellyfish!”
Over and over she sang this, reminiscing on the past, letting the needle guide her into a different time. This melodramatic act of hers was repeated each day, from sunrise until noon when it became time for her afternoon nap. Today remained more or less the same except she was gradually moving further and further back into her memory, further than she had before, transforming into the person she once was, the child she had once been that no longer existed. A calm breeze blew in through the window letting a strand of hair from behind her ear fall onto her face, not seeming to care she continued, “…bumble-bee, lavender, sage.”
Listening, I could hear them, the persistent sound of chatter and laughter. The roar of ambient joy rang from the house and into the ears of everyone behind the scene. You never know what to expect when you're standing backstage; you never know what's going to happen. Thousands of thoughts and worries are bouncing around your head. What if I mess up my life? What if I miss my cue? What if I forget how to speak? It isn't until that very precise moment when the audience's voices have hushed to a whisper and directly before the curtain has opened that your mind becomes clear. You forget all about the hundreds of people that came to see your show. You forget all about the friends you have in the audience just waiting for that moment when you have to do some embarrassing stunt on stage to capture it on film. You even forget all about who you are and all your worries. In that moment, you are an actor.
A sailfish is an incredibly amazing fish. They have a very sleek shape and because of that they are very fast. They make their home in the Atlantic Ocean and are generally found along the warmer coastal waters. Sailfish eat a wide variety of foods that include octopus, squid, shrimp, bony fish ,baby crab , mackerels, tuna, jack, halfbeak, needlefish, and many other types of fish that travel in schools. The sailfish has a very cool scientific name. It is called Istiophorus Platypterus.
This elderly patient was so bossy just now. If you don't your doing don't stick me I need a butterfly. So I get the butterfly stick me right here on my hand. Me: that's your bone shit see you don't know what your doing.
I would like to open with a quote from Charles Swindoll. It reads, “life is 10% of what happens and 90% of how you react to it.” I am a firm believer of this statement because there will always be things out of your control, but your reaction will always be up to you. As for the positive experiences, those are the ones you cherish most, but the negatives are what teach you the most. After listening to my speech, I want you to understand how both the positive and negative experiences in my life have benefitted me. I was able to develop significant skills and relationships through the major events in my life.
Butterflies Amidst Cemeteries The black, rusted gate towers over me, prone to toppling over at the slightest breeze. It creaks as I force it open, rust coating my hands as the gate howls in pain. The smell of stale dirt and rotting carcasses invades my nose as I tentatively creep forward. CRUNCH!. Stranded branches and crumbling, dead leaves grind into the floor under my foot, echoing like gunshots in the dead of night.
I would inform other young people to go into whatever you try with a willingness to change. The change from this experience guided me to my faith and even further, my relationship with God. I relied on him and prayed to him to help me help others and without the change, my selfish acts would still be continuing. I was able to find my potential career from this volunteering and gain relationships I will never lose sight of. Volunteering seems simple and that’s just what it is, a simple act of kindness that can make someone’s day that much
“Look at the baby dolphin,” Kids screamed. “HE’S SO CUTE I WANNA DIE!” Splash splash. “Whats all the noise outside mom,” I ask.
Have you ever felt like what you did, really didn't matter at all? I feel like nothing I do matters either. But recently I felt like I do my very best and it doesn't matter. So I have overcome this by realizing that what I do does matter, helping others, and Changing the way you think.
