The Book “Fist Stick Knife Gun” by Geoffrey Canada is a biographical account of his childhood in the south Bronx. He and his 4 brothers were raised by only their mother. She would survive on no more than ten dollars a week. He moved several times as a child until finally landing on union avenue, the place were many of his life lessons were learned and at times applied. He learned about the ranking process of kids on union Ave. and how the only way to improve your status was to use your fists to fight your way up the chain. In Firearms: A Global History to 1700, Kenneth Chase investigates why Europe perfected firearms when the Chinese invented them. Kenneth Chase is an attorney at law who received his PhD in East Asian Languages and Civilizations from Harvard University. He uses primary sources in the form of texts and paintings as well as secondary sources in this monograph to trace the origin and spread of firearms. He also uses these sources to characterize militaries and determine why they used or did not use firearms. Chase dismisses the notion that the discrepancy between Eastern and Western firearms development was the result of cultural aversion. If anything, he argues that Europeans were more averse to firearms due to its association to Satan and a general
I just completed an incredible book entitled Fist Stick Knife Gun: A Personal Histroy of Violence, written by Geoffrey Canada and illustrated by Jamar Nicholos in 2010. This book describes what life was like for Canada and his three brothers in the poverty stricken streets of the South Bronx's in the 1950's and 1960's. His father was an alcoholic and not a strong presence in his life, so in many ways he was raised by his mother and the streets of New York. Canada uses wonderful illustrations which kept me interested in his story. His illustrations lead me to believe the target audience he is trying to reach are teenagers, though I am sure it would be good for any age. Unlike the teachigns of martin Luther King, Canada's parents told them to

Something all young people consider is what they wish to do for the rest of their lives.
The Civil War novel Rifles for Watie is set in the times of 1861-1865. This novel shows how the times were like during the Civil War Era and how both Jeff Bussey and his family struggled. In this novel, we meet Jefferson “Jeff” Bussey Davis, whom volunteered for the Union forces even though the rest of his family was skeptical about his decision. This novel also introduces us to John Chadwick and David Gardener who are friends with Jeff and face difficult trials throughout the war. It is shown that there are some differences between what actually happened and what is said in the book. For example, some of the events and characters in this book have little to no difference to what actually happened like in the Battle of Wilson's Creek, Captain Clardy, and the Battle of Prairie Grove.

I checked out Fist Stick Knife Gun: A Personal history of Violence because I was intrigued to learn about the ahrsh reality that people faced and are still facing everyday. I was shocked by some of the things I read. I found myself constantly anticipating the next page. I also was intrigued by the hard facts that canada wrote about. 50,000 people is an average town in any State in America, yet he stated that approximately 50,000 American children were killed by guns between 1979 and 1991. He uses interesting figures such as this, mixed with his personal story to tell a remarkable story. It intorduced me to concepts I was not familiar with. Canada opened my eyes to the inter-city problems such as recreational drug use, hand gun sales and usage
...ughout much of their continent-wide breeding range is proof that to manage wildlife; you need to manage their ecosystems. Wet weather, combined with abundant nesting cover provided by the federal Conservation Reserve Program, have shown that wetland and grassland ecosystems are what make or break duck populations. The same is true for all other species, game and non-game. (R. Holmes). (1)
My passion for duck hunting began when I met Bruce, a friend of my dad's who introduced me to the sport. He is a phenomenal man who really has a brilliant knowledge in the sport of duck hunting.
Paperclip Investigation Plan = == = I want to find out how affecting the amount of paper clips (weight) will affect how fast it takes a spinner to fall to the ground. To make the investigation a fair test I am keeping these things the same: · The spinner size · The height at which it is dropped from · The size of the paperclips The only thing I will change is the amount of paperclips added each time. John Moses Browning who is often referred to as the “Father of modern firearms” was born in Ogden, Utah on January 23, 1855. The younger John Browning was well suited for his soon to be chosen field of firearms manufacturer as his father Johnathan had been a gunsmith for many years with many original firearm designs of his own. This afforded John Browning the opportunity to be exposed to the art of gunsmithing early on, and his ingenuity and God given abilities were quickly compounded by the invention of the metallic cartridge. The initial effort was to improve the rugged firearms of the day that were used for hunting big game that were so bountiful at the time and made up a large component of life. John’s inventions developed from there and included all facets of firearm manufacturing; his designs dominate the field even in the present day. John M. Browning’s contribution to firearm design arguably influenced more firearm designs than any other firearm inventor, and played a key role in influencing the outcome of wars from the First World War up to the present day war on terror.

The next step is to have the land surveyed. When the land is surveyed you will find out where the property lines are located and also get the footer laid out and ready to dig. After the footing is prepared and poured full of concrete, the next step is to lay the foundation. Materials used are usually brick or block. The foundation has to meet certain codes which are set by the county. The inspector will have to inspect the foundation before the building process can proceed. After the foundation has passed inspection, the next step for the house is to frame.
