People tend to question why mass murder shootings happen, and writer Stacey Khadaroo may be able to shed some light on the current situation at hand. In her article, Khadaroo discussed the events and possible cause of a mass murder shooting in Roseburg, Oregon at Umpqua Community College on October 1, 2015. Khadaroo spoke to “Christopher Kilmartin, a professor of psychological science at the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, Virginia, and he says the majority of shootings are being done by men who may be suffering from masculinity issues. 1” In Many school shooters, one common factor: a warped view of masculinity, Khadaroo hooks the attention of her audience with her use of vigorous emotion and undoubtable logos while sufficiently portraying her exceptional credibility. Khadaroo triumphantly achieved her goal of appealing to the reader’s emotions in her writing with her use of strong pathos, which evoke specific emotions in the reader that make them become more easily persuaded. Although the causation of a tragedy cannot always be discovered, the purpose of this written piece is to shed light on a common issue amongst men which is most likely the reason as to why Harper-Mercer might have decided to commit a mass shooting. The reader is to be informed of the struggles numerous men face daily and the programs and counseling available to them. Khadaroo proved that she stood equal and did not take a side. In addition to the written article, a video was also included which discussed the final details of the shooting and what went on with Chris Harper-Mercer.
