I attended the Spring Coral Concert in which included a men’s chorus, a women’s chorus, and a chamber choir. The men’s chorus sang “Yo le Canto todo el Dia” and I Am in Need of Music” by David L. Brunner. The women’s chorus sang “I Am Not Yours” by Victor Johnson and “Ascribe to the Lord” by Rosephanye Powell. The chamber choir sang “Even when He is Silent” by Kin André Arnesen and “Elijah Rock” by arr. Moses Hogan.
In the men’s choir the first composition was was “Yo le Canto todo el Dia”. David L. Brunner is an Interim Associate Director of the School of Performing Arts, Professor of Music and Director of Choral Activities at the University of Central Florida. He was born in 1953 is currently still a conductor. The translation for this song is, So I am moving with my heart, So I am leaving with a drum, I sing to you all day ling with affection and joy, So I am leaving with a drum with affection and emotion. The conductor for this song was a student of Auburn University. During this composition there was both a piano and tambourine accompaniment. The choir repeated most of the lyrics and every time they would say the phrase “Yo le Canto todo el Dia”, they would pause for a second then

Brunner. This composition was also conducted by an Auburn University student. As soon as they started to sing it was very quiet and gradually got louder. While listening to this song I was immediately reminded of a hymn that you might sing in church. This work also was accompanied by a piano. The choir sang on a four-part canon throughout most of the song. When they were all singing different parts I instantly saw how talented they were by the way they could do that. At the very end of the work all of the men came back together as one and all finished in a bass voice. When they were all in bass voices you could hear the echo in their vocal cord which mad the composition that much

On Friday November 15, 2013, I attended a concert that I found very interesting. It took place at 7:30 pm at the First Presbyterian Church of the Covenant. The group performing was the Erie Chamber Orchestra but as a special the Slippery Rock University Concert Choir was also there.
The concert began with an incredibly brief introduction from the president of the Rochester Oratorio Society, after which the society performed a piece that is not listed on the program. After hearing the raw talent the choir displayed in their first performance the crowd praised them, and at this time a representative from the city’s mayor office took the stage and presented the society with a proclamation. The proclamation was on behalf of the city offices and expressed thanks for their 70 years of musical performances and education. Afterwards the society performed Norman Dello Joio’s “A Jubilant Song,” which served as a transition for the Houghton College Choir to take the seats of the men’s choral section. The college choir was approximately a third the size of the society choir, but still managed to perform with a lot of talent. The Houghton College Choir performed Kenneth Jennings’ “The Lord is the Everlasting God” and Larry Farrow’s “Give Me Jesus.” After a quick intermission the Rochester Oratorio Society took to the stage to perform Brahm’s Requiem, which is typically performed with an orchestra, but in their rendition a two person piano served as a replacement. Brahm’s Requiem is in German, making it difficult to understan...

The chorus underlines "Alle Menschen werden Brüder," "All mankind will be brothers." The same line is repeated ecstatically by the quartet, which soars upward to it’s peak. The orchestra and chorus re-enter at a rapid tempo to bring the movement to its conclusion.

The event I attended was “An Evening of Jazz” concert held at the Fine Arts Hall on November 17 at 7:30 p.m. The performing groups were The Santa Fe Rhythm and Blues Review, The Santa Fe Jazz Combo, and Santa Fe Big Band. The event was to for me to understand, experience Jazz music and know the instruments used.
On November 16th, 2013, I attended a concert choir, fall choral concert. This event took place on the Wheaton College Campus, in the Edman Chapel at 7:30 pm. The chapel was well-lit, with long pews for the audience to be seated. The concert began with the audience looking up into a balcony, where the ensemble stood in neat rows. They watched the conductor, who stood on a stage in front of the audience, waiting for their cue.
On Wednesday, May 23rd, I attended the College Choir concert in the Reamer Campus Center. The choir performed a variety of songs, ranging from pieces in Latin to traditional American folksongs. Two of the pieces featured solos, and one even featured percussion instruments. Mrs. Elinore Farnum provided piano accompaniment for each of the songs, and performed beautifully. I was extremely impressed by the talented choir members and their ability to sing such a varied range of songs.

The musicians have a very important duty to communicate with the Tide for the rest of the community. To do so, they must master many different chants and playing rhythms which all mean something different to the Tide. It is the musician’s job to know and lead every song
Tito Puente is the original author of “Oye Como Va”. This song was made in 1963 by him. However many believed that Carlos Santana is the author of this piece. Tito in his day was known as the “King of Jazz” because of the type of music he performed. He was known for putting together different styles of music and making it into his own and also putting a twist on Latin music. Oye Como Va is more of a modern sounding type of music to me and that is one of the reasons why I like it so much. There are several of instruments used in this piece. The way the melody switches is so appealing to me. The s...
For this concert report I chose to go to a performance of student composers held at the Kimball Recital Hall. I chose this one because I wanted to see some of the talent that my peers have in the music realm, and also it was one of the only concerts I have been able to attend because I usually work at night. It was impressive to hear pieces composed by students. I cannot imagine creating something as complex as a musical composition, much less actually performing it, so this aspect of the concert was particularly awe-inspiring. There was a large attendance, and I think that much of the audience consisted of friends of the composers and/or performers. I went with three friends, who I convinced by telling it would be interesting to see student composers.
