Split Sisters and Split Personalities of Goblin Market
"I have 50 different personalities, and still I’m lonely" (Amos). Perhaps everyone is truly composed of multiple personalities embodied within one whole. Whether these split personalities are actual or purely metaphorical, no one human being has a single sided mind, and a single sided position on everything. Within the brain many battles are raged between opposing sides of issues, between the personalities. "Goblin Market" is one of Christina Rosetti’s "sister" poems, a form in which she used sisters to "represent different aspects of the split personality that was caused by conflicting attitudes and mixed emotions towards love" (Bellas 66). The two opposing young sides of a single person’s brain are separated into two different beings, two sisters. During the poem, the two sisters, Laura and Lizzie, contrast and become contrasting opinions and factions on love, femininity, and sensuality, eventually maturing and reconciling their conflicting beliefs into a mutual ground.
"Laura’s love of the fruit is insatiable" (Mayberry 90). Lizzie is a more Victorian image of love "cautious, timid, and tedious" (Mayberry 43). In the Victorian days respectable women were expected to be good Christian women. Rossetti is a demonstration of these expectations. In reference to the awkward moral at the end of the poem Martine Brownley says.
"Undoubtedly that was the only way that the quiet devoted recluse could tolerate what she had procured in the poem. The woman who pasted pieces of paper over the more explicit lines in Swinburne’s poetry could never have faced the actual implications of the stunningly effective parable… which somehow welled up from her unconscious self" ...

Divided Minds was an intriguing story plot, endowing readers to divulge into the mindset of twin sisters, Pamela and Carolyn Spiro, and their daily struggles within Mental Health. Co-authors and staring twin sister, Pamela and Carolyn fabricated their personal diaries into a lifelong audience, disclosing personal issues, feelings, and emotions throughout their lifetime. However one predominant issues within the mental health field revolved around the symptoms and diagnosis of Schizophrenia, where Pamela expressed her vacillating struggles with multiple symptoms such as delusions, hallucinations, and grossly disorganized behavior, to her economic and social predicaments.

Edna Pontellier’s decision to move into her pigeon house and away from her husband’s rule and the vexing job of caring for her children was viewed as societal suicide, but to her liberation and self-actualization as a woman was more important. Elizabeth Bennet ultimately disregarded her mother’s wishes, and passed over Mr. Collins, she initially disregarded Mr. Darcy as a possible suitor but love proved otherwise. These women were on a path of destruction to free themselves from a long reign of oppression, their challenge of conventional methods within the nineteenth century, proved successful not only to them, but for a future collective group of women who would follow in their footsteps.

"God help, I'm so lost!" If you listen carefully, this is a common thought that is heard throughout many schools in the nation. Is this thought appropriate? The following statement clearly shows that the law allows students and adults to practice religion, but at the same time be respective of others and their beliefs even if they do believe or if they don't. "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, or to petition the government for a redress of grievances." (First Amendment, The Constitution of the United States). Prayer is not normally permitted as a scheduled part of classroom activities, because it would result in the violation of the principle of church-state separation, which has been defined by court interpretations of the 1st Amendment to the U.S, Constitution. The separation principle is extended to Public school as an arm of the government, with an exception which can be permitted if, during the school year, a mixture of prayers, statements, etc are delivered, using material derived from a number of different religions and secular sources. So far, this has never been tried in a school or ruled upon by a court (Religion in Public).

Religion and prayer in public schools is a big controversy for schools in the United States. School officials cannot take sides on religion since it will violate the first amendment which states, “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.” Establishing a specific religion in public school violates the first amendment, therefore public schools have to remain neutral when it comes to the matter of religion. Some people believe that teaching about religion should not be allowed considering it violates the separation of church and state, but that is not true. There are many issues regarding religion in public schools, however exercising your personal religion independently is not one of them. (Leitch, 1)
The “establishment” or “religion” clause of the First Amendment of the Constitution reads: “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof” (Education Week, 2003, para. 2). It is from this clause that the idea of separation of church and state comes. It is also the basis for much of the debate regarding the practice of religion in public schools (Education Week, 2003). One of the big questions regarding the religion issue is where to draw the line between separation of church and state and religious freedom. The practice of religion in public schools can balance these two ends by allowing students to individually exercise their religious freedom, so long as they do not interfere with that of other students.
Religion was and is beneficial to schools because it sets a positive tone. Schools and teachers setting a consistent positive tone for students was broken when prayer was taken out of schools. Prayer helped teachers to set an enlightened tone among their students’ day, as well as aided them to push them in a positive direction. The positive tone in schools helped to promote unity. Teachers are supposed to be positive role models to children, as the absence of both mother and father in homes continually diminishes. There is also less bullying among students when religion is in schools.
The bond between the Bennett sisters portrays the simplest form of relationships; each sister relies on her sisters to guide her through her conflicts. According to May, “The primary sibling relationship occurs in a social environment involving networks of human interaction in which pairs of siblings of varying significance typically frame the main action of the plot, providing a background of fraternal and sororal 'white noise' against which the main discourse is set forth” (336). Specific roles and traits have been stereotyped with genders by society for many years. While being strong and vocal is often associated with masculinity and men, women are characterized to be weaker and soft-spoken. Males are conventionally in occupations or roles, that involve leadership. Conversely, the social normalization of females involves no work, but rather their main role is to look after the children at home. In A Doll’s House, Henrik Ibsen depicts a society rich in gender norms and stereotyping. The protagonist of the play, Nora, lives in the shadow of her white-collar working husband, Torvald, who often refers to her as his doll. As the plot progresses, the reader discovers Nora previously received a confidential loan in order to assist in her husband’s efforts to heal from a serious illness. By the end of the story, Nora is exposed to Torvald for taking out the loan, resulting in an argument that leads to the demise of their eight-year marriage, but ultimately the separation was brought forth by Nora. The standard gender roles illustrated throughout the entire play, are swiftly reciprocated, to justify that sexes are not defined by social stereotyping, but all genders are capable of the same roles and traits as each other.
