town, and there's not much to do on Saturday nights," says Kelley. "So it's a big thing to have a dance." And dances, KayDe adds, are "one of our school's only traditions."
I believe our school should take a step towards improving its culture by getting rid of stereotypes and promoting equality. To make our school a better and safer place we should try and stop people from thinking about and believing stereotypes. So students will not be hindered in any aspect of their school experience, and so they may do their best and get a fair chance for their future.
...on what they have learned by attending more days in school but not getting burned out on a traditional nine month school schedule. A few short breaks allows the mind to rest but not forget everything they have worked hard to achieve educational greatness. American society will achieve great things if the education system takes a step in all schools operating on a year round calendar.
Some argue that participation trophies are going to be the downfall of society and human life in general. That is not the case but, there are many downsides of these awards, in this essay a few of these will be brought to attention. Participation trophies do not teach children valuable lessons.
Students now have the opportunity to work another day to save for their future. The four-day school week also provides much more time for these children to spend and enjoy time with friends, and family, as well as enjoying extracurricular activities. There is a lovely environment for the children at the school and an extra day for the instructors to gain knowledge and a better understanding of their curriculum. The schools will be saving a varying amount of money that could be used in case of an emergency with money of any kind. Whether it is an emergency funding program, or money to fund an extracurricular activity. In conclusion, the four-day school week has proven itself to be a very effective form of education that Colby Public Schools most certainly should switch to within the coming
In “Two Kinds” by Amy Tan, Jing-mei was imposed by her mother to become a prodigy at piano and ballet. Committing to both activities, Jing-Mei realizes that she doesn’t have to fulfill her mother’s wishes and desires, and that she can live her life the way she wants to. Tan demonstrates to the reader that life isn’t all about succeeding and living up to your parent’s expectations, rather it’s about enjoying it. This communicates the idea that in “Two Kinds”, one should live life truest to themselves, with no one pressuring them to become something they don't want to be.
In the essay “Graduation Inflation”, by Amy Dickinson, she explains how celebrating too often can diminish the actual purpose of celebrating. When we are addicted to celebrating every little thing, it can be problematic as excessive rewards and commendatory certificates can dull out the celebrating experience. Consequently, when a big event does occur, it might seem less significant. Over-commending reduces the value of celebrating events that are more worthy; for example, cases such as winning the league championship might seem less important when celebrating becomes frequent. However, when people get rewarded, especially children, they receive a feeling of greatness where their accomplishments feel extraordinary which induces their motivation and determinism. Nonetheless, celebrating gives a person the incentive to do better in the future and serve as a great confidence booster as well. Dickinson holds some truth that over-celebrating can lead to less meaning in noteworthy events; however, celebrating frequently can be used as a tactic to encourage motivation, determination, and self-confidence.
Many feel it will help to surface the personal questions kids have about god and religion and allow them to search for their own belief system. The most common, however, is the argument that bringing prayer back to schools will help reverse the moral degradation of this country. As the Reverend Jeffery L. Osgood, pastor of the First Southern Baptist Church in Dover wrote, "Back in 1962, when prayer was removed by the Supreme Court, something happened to America's soul and America's schools. Our nation has become increasingly secular and less tolerant of moral standards and values. Since America became so proud to pray to the God of Heaven who created us, we have been reaping the rewards.
I believe that we should have the right to display any religious references on student banners used at school-sponsored events; such as graduation ceremonies, football or sports events, theater and fine arts events, and any other school events that are presented by or for the school. The fact is just because you are at a school function of any kind does not mean that there is not to be any religious banners. The freedom of religion does not stop once you cross the threshold of the school. The government is not the one who gives us our freedom and right to have whatever religion we choose to have. Our rights are given to us by God not government.
Each year, as a new group of students enter my classroom, I will encourage them to be expressive of their imaginations in their favorite subjects, whether it will be art, literature, math or music. We all have rules and regulations to follow, and each student will know that there is no exception in the school or the classroom. Another goal in my classroom will be to keep the students excited about learning, not to treat school as a game or a social event, but to encourage a unique and fun atmosphere to learn.
School should be four days a week with an extra hour added to each school day because it would save money for the school system, increase student motivation, stimulate the economy, and promote student achievement. There has been a decrease in education due to the small amount of resources, causing classrooms to be bigger and children not being able to extend their knowledge. Even though the economy has been falling, each school district has been working hard to promote student education, which could mean trading a traditional school schedule for a four-day school week. Replacing a normal school schedule for the four day school week can raise the school budget tremendously. (Hart, Demand Media).
The universal party night for students is Saturday, JMU students being no exception. For most students at Madison, the week is wrought with worry and toil over books, notes, classes, and exams. One reason to explain why parties sometimes get the way they do, is that Saturday night for students is a catharsis, all the pressure that students feel can be forgotten and they can act freely in what they feel is a worry-free environment.
Religion in schools is consistently being disputed among schools, students, and government alike. What reasons are there that justify that religion should be taken out of school? Freedom of religion is a pillar of which that holds the foundation of this country, yet it is so heavily discriminated against. The problem lies not in the various religions but in the lack of protection of religion, especially in schools. As said by Richard W.Riley "Public schools can neither foster religion nor preclude it. Our public schools must treat religion with fairness and respect and vigorously protect religious expression as well as the freedom of conscience of all other students. In so doing our public schools reaffirm the First Amendment and enrich the lives of their students". A quote from the Secretary of Education Richard W. Riley. (http://www.religioustolerance.org/ps_pray.htm) The issue of religion in school is a means for high emotions and beliefs. With emotions running high, the best and most honorable solution is to promote a compromise that will enable and secure religious freedom in schools.
Before starting the concept mad and breaking down the issue, I knew that school prayer was a social issue but never knew why. From my point of view, I would say that school prayer should be allowed, except limiting what they can do. For example, a class has the moment of silence, but the other students who have different beliefs can have their own time where they do their prayers and practices.
There are many aspects of Christianity that must appear utterly insane to the world. Groups of people, sized from 10 to 10,000 gather across the world to sing songs about blood and death. Children are gathered together to hear stories about worldwide floods and giant fish eating people. In fact, the Bible is is chock-full of mind-boggling stories of assassinations, great dragons and tent pegs through temples. From the outside looking in, one of the strangest things may be the fact that the church welcomes the “Holy Spirit” on a regular basis. Who is this Spirit? Generally the word “spirit” conjures up ideas of demons and terror. Those ideas are certainly not holy. Who is the Holy Spirit? Is Holy Spirit a “He” or an “it”? How does one get
