Speech: Take Risks and Live Life to its Fullest
Good morning ladies and gentlemen, today I am here to talk to you about a quote that Punch Imlach once said, he said that “a ship in harbour is safe, but that is not what ships are built for.” I think he is trying to say that one should not live their life in fear and that humans in general need to take more risks.
Fear comes in many forms, there is fear of embarrassment, failure, and injury. These are the three main fears that keep people from achieving their dreams. I say go for it, if you want to do something don’t let fear get in your way. Follow your dreams, make them come true. If you spend your life living in fear, you won’t accomplish anything, because to achieve your highest goals you must take risks. For example there are some ...
“A ship in the harbor is safe, but that is not what ships are built for.” A wise quote from John A. Shedd. A boat is secure inside the harbor, but it is useless. Inside a harbor, a boat can’t traverse oceans, set wars in motion, or discover new lands. Figuratively, we, the people, are the ships, and our safe haven is our comfort zone. Without reaching out of your comfort zone, you can’t conquer your world. You can’t make a difference. You need take a risk. Leave your safe haven and explore.
Fear is a powerful emotion. Wikipedia.com describes fear as “an emotion induced by threat perceived by living entities, which causes a change in brain and organ function and ultimately change behavior, such as running away, hiding or freezing from traumatic events.”Most people tend to avoid fearful situations, not realizing that something positive may come out of the event or experience. Victor Villaseñor focuses on the topic of fear in his novel titled Burro Genius. Villaseñor demonstrates to readers how growing up he was extremely fearful of any situation. Victor also tells his readers how he turned his fear into motivation into motivation to keep going and reach his ultimate goal of becoming a published author.
This affects me as a person because facing my fear and overcoming it is really hard to me because I usually don’t face my fear in person because I usually face my fear in dreams and I don’t like seeing it. I remember in the past when I got so mad and almost got into a rage mode which made me feel really bad in the inside. My sister got me really mad by doing something I told her not to do, but instead of myself getting really mad, I was able to handle my anger and not get really mad. I got really happy because I was able to overcome my fear of not getting really mad and not feeling really bad in the inside. A future fear is me not doing good in school or other sport activities. To me this is a big fear because when I do bad in swimming and school then I get in trouble by my parents but if I do good in swimming and school then my parents get proud of me. If I do good in swimming and school then it means I am overcoming my fear of my parents getting mad at
In Robert Waldinger’s What Makes a Good Life speech, he grabs the audience's attention by at the start of the speech by asking them a question, thus engaging them into what he about to say. The question is what makes they healthy and happy and where they would invest their time and energy as they go through life which is ultimately what his speech is about.
So many people have ideas of things they want to do, whether they be business-related, something that scares them or even just asking someone else out on a date. Everyone has ideas about how they want to live their lives, but most people never wind up following through. They are so afraid of failure or of looking bad that they run from any kind of challenge. Then later in life, when they realize that they had all these opportunities and never took ad...
In conclusion, Coelho shows that people are more willing to take action on their dreams if they conquer their fears. The two most important fears that should be conquered are the fear of loss of beloved things or people, and the fear of what the future holds. In the end, fear is really just an obstacle in life; it controls people and makes them believe things that are not necessarily true and the only way to get rid of these thoughts is to get rid of the fear itself.
Knowing what am I really scared of?The book we reviewed are “Anthem” by Ayn Rand, “Emancipation Proclamation,”by Abraham Lincoln,”prometheus,” written by Greek mythology,”critical thinking,”by Lou. also a Socratic seminar from my fellow classmates. The thing I’m afraid of is expressing who I am.
Fear influences people to make irrational decisions and take extreme measures. Often times, these actions are done to protect one’s reputation. Fear causes people to lie and manipulate to those they care about in order to escape what they are scared of most. Fear of failure has caused higher levels of anxiety, and has made society put blame on each other, rather than owning up to their mistakes. Fear can also cause one to forget one’s true identity and lose one’s values. There are two options that one can take when being faced with a fear: run away from the fear, or go through it and learn a valuable lesson in the end that will make you a stronger person. Fear is a harmful emotion that everyone has to go through in order to succeed.
Those who have been diagnosed as phobics had their lives altered by submitting to the overpowering urge to avoid their fears at all costs. Facing one's fear is not the easiest thing to do, but there are newer, safer, and easier methods to tear down the false fear an object or situation has over someone. Phobias, that come from unknown origins, have a tremendous influence over the growth processes of personalities and the creation of an individual's lifestyle.
As people grow up, they tackle their own challenges, fears begin to fester and grow inside of them. These fears have the potential to change the way people will live out their day-to-day life. Along with fears is foresight. This can aid people in the search for how to overcome, or work around their fears. Foresight can also help people picture how their fears may affect their life. Both fears and foresight have the potential to offer people life-altering choices that will help people grow. Fear and foresight can both have a large part in influencing life-altering choices, just as Nora Helmer, Florentine and a choice of my own, all illustrate.
Understanding and analyzing fear is a step to become fearless. Question until you understand something don’t go through life insecure. When you feel the sensation of fear you get scared and realize that you aren’t as brave as you thought, but you are capable of not being afraid anymore. Deconstructing fear is a way of gaining confidence. Once you become fearless life becomes limitless. Throughout life people are afraid of certain things not because they aren’t capable of doing it, but it is the fear that is the cause of their unwillingness. Results on fear are often held back by false assumptions of weakness. People live in fear, if you want to achieve success then don’t doubt yourself. Set fearlessness as an ideal as an ideal to dream about being fearless and the better you will be. Just because you try something for the first time and it doesn't come out as you expected doesn’t mean that it won't come out right the next time. Don’t give up and try until you succeed. In order to grow you have to challenge yourself. Confront your fears so that you aren’t scared
We all have our fears, rather it be flying or driving. However, when a phobia is present the individual has extreme irrational fears that interfere with their quality of life. For example a fear of heights may limit an individuals living or employment choices. If this individual is offered the job of a lifetime, however, the office is located on the twentieth floor; they will refuse the job due to the fear of heights.
