Spam is a brand name for a canned meat product containing ham, pork, salt, flavourings, and preservatives that are mixed and cooked under vacuum pressure. The product was made in 1937 and it became popular around WWII where it was recognized by the United States and Russian soldiers. After the war, the product became popular and well known around the world. Over the years consumers wondered about the product, and if it was healthy because of the simple ingredients. This issue made a big difference on the popularly of the product. In today’s society, canned food has become a big issue whether it is healthy or not because of the chemicals and preparation. There are many reasons why Spam is not healthy, and some main reasons are the ingredients, the processed meat, and the amount of chemicals used. There are many bad chemicals in spam to harm a human being.
First of all, Spam is not healthy to eat because the human body is not designed to consume highly processed food, our body can not break down processed food properly. This can cause bad side affects to humans. Furthermore, another reason why humans cannot eat highly processed food is the fact that it contains fats and sodium. All the fats and sodium clog our arteries which can harm and wreak our entire system. There are many ways that we can get proteins, and not only from meat but also from vegetables. Moreover, the amount of chemicals they put in Spam to make it have the good taste is not healthy, because the product does not contain a lot of meat. It contains mostly fat and salt that is what people are consuming. Although the product contains protein, it is not nutritious as other meat products sold in our grocery store.
Second, the taste of Spam is described to be very...

... now we cannot consider it “natural” because of how it was made. I believe that products like Spam shows how much we humans have become so lazy that things are now made precooked where technology like microwaves, which it has radiation that can cause cancer to cook our food. Thus the fact that our food now contains some sort of chemicals, I consider that most food that we have now today is not healthy to eat.

Companies nowadays are using different and strong methods in marketing their food products. The Companies are very competitive, and the results can affect the people. When we think about this job field, it is convincing that those producers should use cleverly ways to gain their own living. In the other side they shouldn’t use misleading ways that could harm the people. Food companies should be straightforward with every marketing method they use. People have the right to know what they are consuming and also to know the effects of these products on them, whether it is harmful, useful, or even neutral.

In her essay “In Praise of Fast Food”, Rachel Laudan discusses the differences between natural and processed foods and which are healthier. She also discussed her personal experiences with the topic. Laudan knows a great deal about this particular debate because she grew up on a farm eating “natural foods” as well as using natural recipes herself. “My culinary style, like so many people’s, was created by those who scorned industrialized food; culinary Luddites” (Laudan 331). She does not, however, completely agree that all natural foods are healthier than processed foods, using history as a large part of her argument. This essay had a very clear motive and made numerous key points about this debate, making it
Synthetic foods have the ability to change the workforce, restructure our culture toward more productivity, and increase American quality of life. By supporting synthetic foods, we are supporting the future.
Most of the food we eat grows naturally. Either from trees, soil, plants, amongst others. This is what we call “natural” food. But isn't all food natural? You would think so, as they come naturally from the ground or anything else. But if we look at science today, used for many years now, it is used things i...

In our fast pace society, we base everything on time and money. This need to save money and time has transformed the way we see food and purchase food. Food is an essential part of all cultures. It plays a role in every person’s life. The population has the power to choose what we eat and how the food industry is shaped. There are many important questions that we need to ask ourselves in order to keep the food industry in check. These questions are: How do we know our food is safe? What should we eat? How should food be distributed? What is good food? These are simple yet difficult questions.
Through the manufacturing and industrialization of foods many foods are made into frozen meals which are a lot easier to prepare. Pre-packaged frozen food that interviewee would eat she thought was semi healthy because it included a vegetable and meat or pasta. The price of the frozen food is something that she mentioned as well, these are a lot cheaper than buying fresh fruits and vegetables. The main ingredients that she found she used seemed to be a lot less healthy than what her mother would make her family for dinner. A lot of the main ingredients in meals prepared by her are pre-cooked or frozen foods such as vegetables and fruits which seem to lose their nutritional value (Scrinis, 2008). With living in a farming community, she tries to eat vegetables and fruits that are grown locally which helps to add some nutritional content to her food. One thing that the interviewee talked about during the interview was about the amount of packaging that is used today to help protect food to last longer on grocery store shelves. With grocery stores being so accessible and convenient it pushes a lot of people away from unpackaged and local foods. Interviewee believes that with grocery stores being so convenient and needing to provide food for multiple people the quality has decreased drastically. With having so much low quality food that is easily accessible it is pushing people’s health down which can be visibly seen according to the
More and More people are becoming concerned about what they eat, especially if they consume food products that are manufactured in food industries. However, it is hard to know what exactly you are consuming if food industries provide false nutrition content and mislead consumers by placing false advertisements on the packaging. When a company produces a product that contains misleading label, consumers are not receiving complete information about the food they are eating which could lead to health issues including allergies and problems with diabetes.
Food has been a common source of necessity in our everyday lives as humans. It helps gives us nutrition and energy to live throughout our life. Over several decades, the development of making foods has evolved. They have changed from natural to processed foods in recent years. Nowadays natural ingredients are barely used in the making of foods like bread, cheese, or yogurt. The food industry today has replaced natural food making with inorganic ingredients. The cause of this switch is due to processed foods being easier, cheaper and faster to make. Artificial nutrition and processed foods have been proven to last longer in market shelves then natural foods. Also, due to artificial additives in processed foods they help satisfy consumers taste more than natural ingredients. The method of producing processed foods is common in today's food industry and helps make money faster and efficiently for companies. Examples of this can be found in all markets that distribute food. Even though processed foods may be easier and faster to make, they are nowhere near as healthy for consumers compared to natural foods. Natural foods are healthier, wholesome, and beneficial to the human body and planet then processed foods.
Food is “composed of synthetic chemical additives, such as colorings, preservatives, sugar substitutes and trans-fats” (Fitzgerald, 2006, p.72). Fitzgerald reported that by the “1970s most meats and dairy products that were factory farmed were laced with growth hormones, antibiotics and a range of pesticides” (p.72). Furthermore, food that is frozen, packaged and canned is considered processed food. A brief explanation of the chemical additives in processed food. 1.
It is up to the consumer to proactively search out healthier alternatives. Unfortunately, it is difficult to do so in today’s day in age. Pollan provides beneficial advice such as analyzing the product’s ingredient list for unfamiliar or unpronounceable ingredients, products comprising of more than five ingredients or that contain high-fructose corn syrup are strong indications that a food substance has been highly processed. He continues by explaining, “Most supermarkets are laid out the same way: Processed food products dominate the center aisles of the store while the cases of ostensibly fresh food - dairy, produce, meat, and fish - line the walls. If you keep to the edges of the store you’ll be that much more likely to wind up with real food in your shopping cart.” This strategy, however, isn’t flawless as items such as Go-Gurt do in fact include high-fructose corn syrup. Possibly the best approach for avoiding processed food products is to merely escape the supermarket whenever possible. Elaborated imitation food products, unpronounceable ingredients, or debatable health claims aren’t going to be found at a farmers’ market or in a
Which if true makes the Spam festival in Hawaii an extremely confusing event since it is all about how delicious Spam is with many people from around the world coming to share and taste all kinds of different recipes with Spam as the main ingredient. And many people who say that Spam is terrible have either not tried it or, tried to just eat it straight out of the can which is one of the few incorrect ways to eat spam and would obviously taste terrible kind of like a boiled hotdog. And just like with a boiled hotdog there will not be any negative health effects besides maybe feeling a little sick to your stomach as Spam is already fully cooked. When preparing to eat Spam one must at least fry it in a pan for a few minutes before eating. And from there the possibilities of how to eat Spam are nearly endless as it is good in just about any dish. In fact on the back of each Spam can is a new recipe the company that produces Spam has suggested for consumers to try spam in. And even more recipes can be found online ranging from “Spam and eggs” to a “Spam and ramen burger”(Dennis). Making the supposedly inedible canned meat one of the most flexible main ingredients used in thousands of recipes in a variety of different countries around the world. So the main problem is not that Spam is not delicious. The problem is that people have either not been eating Spam correctly or they just are not
Canning is a simple method for capturing food’s delicious and wholesome qualities at natures very best and for preserving food for enjoyment at a later time. Nowadays people choose for can because it may saving the available food for later use. One of the most common methods for preserving foods today is to enclose them in a sterile container. Canning can be glass, plastic and metal can and the basic principle of canning is that a food is sterilized, usually by heating, and then placed within an air-tight container. In the absence of air, no new pathogens can gain access to the sterilized food. In most canning operations, the food to be packaged is first prepared in some way—cleaned, peeled, sliced, chopped, or treated in some other way—and then placed directly into the container. The container is then placed in hot water or some other environment where its temperature is raised above the boiling point of water for some period of time. This heating process achieves two goals at once. First, it kills the vast majority of pathogens that may be present in the container. Second, it forces out most of the air above the food in the container.
