For example, if the author provides statistics to prove their case, it's important to check the date, location, etc., of when this data was collected. Just because authors may have an eyewitness, survey, or results from a scientific study, doesn't mean that their data is reliable. Their info may be subjective and therefore, not trustworthy. Moreover, some writings can include broad generalizations, assumptions, and omission of facts. This can mislead you into believing something that is not true which is why you should make your own inferences whilst reading. I believe that for a historian to find a convincing source he/she must find a strong primary source and then branch out from there. In my mind, the best primary sources are either journals or logs that came from that specific time period. As a young graduate student who never been to Congress, Woodrow Wilson criticized the founding fathers on the separation of powers. My name is David Brown and I am the starting quarterback for the Nittany Lions here a Penn State University. I am writing to you on behalf of my fellow intercollegiate athletes, because I feel as though we are being used. Each year my Penn State teammates and I, as well as other high-profile college teams generate millions of dollars in revenue, yet we do not get paid for our services. Millions of dollars are made every year from food, drinks, tickets, and merchandise sales because of our strenuous work, not to mention the billions of dollars made from selling TV rights to our games to major networks. Intercollegiate sports are a big business in which the players are “slave laborers.” I am not suggesting that we be given an annual salary, but I feel that we should be given stipend or some financial assistance in addition to scholarship money.

Yes, many can argue that there are plenty of websites out there that offer so much information; however, is that information always credible? The answer to that is no. Newspapers have to be credible, because they go through editing and review before they are published. Almost anyone now can go online and post something for you to read and think they know what they are talking about. It is not good to fall in this trap.
