Lisa Cholodenko grew up in Los Angeles and she began her film careers working as an assistant editor; however, she then moved to New York and earned an MFA in screenwriting and direction at the Columbia University School of arts. At Columbia University School of Arts, Cholodenko filmed her first short movie Dinner Party. Besides being a director, Lisa Cholodenko also was a film professor at Columbia University, an advisor and is currently on the Board of Governs of Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Science. It was surprising to be able to find out how active Cholodenko is in the film industry and in the university she attended. This portrays how committed Cholodenko is to creating successful movies and to be a part of others film victory.
Hundreds of movies are released every year. Filmmakers try to create the next jaw-dropping movie that audiences will stand in line for hours and pay top dollar to see. The key to success is finding ideas that appeal to a mass audience. Viewers are the lifeline of any production company so making something for everyone is a savvy business move for the film industry. To cover all bases, there are over fourteen different genres of movies. Film making is not a solo effort. It is a collaboration between the actors, directors, producers and other key contributors. This combined effort or mise-en-scene includes all the elements of the film to include actors, backdrops, costumes, props and lighting used to meet the director’s vision (Goodykoontz & Jacobs, 2011, Sec 3.2). In order to understand more about movies we need to learn more about the tools that filmmakers use during production. We need to identify theatrical elements and techniques used in a cinema and also learn what effect they have on the audience. Camera movement, angle, editing, sound and framing can be some examples of cinematic techniques. Theatrical elements can include props, costumes, sets, and acting choice. Each theatrical element and cinematic technique plays an important role during film making. The question that we should ask is how does the director incorporate all this in a film?
With this short but very interesting and informative class I have just scratched the surface of the what it takes to make a full fleged film. It takes much more than I had presumed to make a movie in Hollywood. The number of people that it takes to make a minute of a movie let alone the entire movie was astonishing to me. There are many things that it takes to start making a movie but without an idea of some sort there is no movie to be made.

The act of watching a film is a fairly effortless process. Individuals around the world enjoy watching films as a pastime activity because it engages one without the need to put in effort. This effortless entertainment is possible thanks to the way the producers carefully control and edit films to insure that their audience will experience what the film was intended to make them feel. In order to ensure that the audience will be able to engage into the film and understand its meaning an element known as Cinematography is needed. Cinematography is a very important element to this process because it controls the way the audience views and interprets the images that are being displayed.
Cinematography is the art or technique of motion-picture photography. The Moulin Rouge is a visually striking film, which incorporates brilliant elements of cinematography. One scene in particular that captures the brilliance of the cinematographer is the scene within which the “Unconscious Argentinean” takes it upon himself to explain the situation with an incredible, tango, adaptation of The Police’s song “Roxanne.” The lighting and other elements of this are gorgeous, as they eloquently convey the dark emotions of the situation: “Jealousy, anger, betrayal.” The different elements of cinematography, specifically, color, lighting, and the use of camera angles, bring to life the emotions, and bigger than life feel to the scene.

The artisanship of music production has come a long way ever since the heavily involved recording equipment has been massively changing. Every artwork has countless of individual people who have changed the way the art may be applied to the field, leaving behind their legacy to influence all aspects of music. Music producers are always overlooked when it comes to working with musicians or bands, but what people do not know is that they are the backbone of the production but are unseen to the public. There are several of paths on becoming a producer, like being self-taught or going to a vocational school. If you plan to advance as a producer, it will be a rough experience trying to ascend to a higher position. A music producer is the main person that manages the whole album on a record, and is responsible for helping the artist complete his work.
Scenes of breath-taking Austrian landscapes fill the vivid screen. You immediately recognize the mountains, the valleys, and especially, the singing hills. They flourish with memories of sitting in front of the family television and watching re-run after re-run of the movie that never grew old. The movie, if you haven’t already surmised, is The Sound of Music.
For this film, I took on the role of the director. I selected the cast for the film, directed rehearsals and the performances, worked with the camera, sound, lighting design and effects and worked with the editor to produce the finished film. I also kept the cast and crew encouraged, and worked to keep to our time schedule. The audience is greatly affected by my decisions as I, as the director, have the vision of what the film is going to be like and the final say or a helping hand in most of what happens on set, costume, cinematography, editing and sound.

Combined with a viewer’s desire to escape the everyday parameters of life, and the excitement of enthralling themselves deep into another world, many people enjoy what films stand to offer. With the rising popularity of films across the world, the amount of film makers increases every day. Many technological innovations mark the advancement of film making, but the essential process remains the same. Pre-production accounts for everything taken place before any shooting occurs, followed by the actual production of the film, post-production will then consist of piecing the film together, and finally the film must reach an audience. Each step of this process contributes to the final product, and does so in a unique right. The process of film making will now start chronologically, stemming from the idea of the story, producing that story into a film, editing that footage together, and finally delivering that story to its viewers.
