“Pork and Beans” Song Analysis The Transcendentalist movement in 1836 showed that the people of America wanted their own identity. The same ideas from Transcendentalism are shown today in many songs, books,and movies. While there are many different parts of Transcendentalism, one of the most relevant in modern day America, is being able to be self-reliant and not having to rely on other people to tell you who you are. “Pork and Beans” by: Rivers Cuomo, the lead singer in the band Wheezer, is a perfect example of being self-reliant.
