Coming into college just a few short months ago I was unsure of what career or even what major I wanted to pursue. Even now as I work through this paper I was unsure as to the direction I wanted to take. Although what I have taken away from my first semester has lead me in the direction of field I feel comfortable pursing. I have always found the corporate business world interesting especially in the fields of computing and technology. This has led me towards the career of Solutions Architect. A Solutions Architect is definitely a profession that has come to the workforce as of late with the evolution of the modern workforce. Solution Architects come in many forms in the work force from Salary Workers to company consultants. Solution Architects …show more content…
I know that I don’t want to be a completely one minded worker and the ability to blend both sides of a booming industry is an opportunity I can’t pass up. On one hand you’re running a business deal where you are in boardroom and meeting environments dealing with other workers and customers. While on the other hand you also are managing the development of the product on the computer science side, making sure the developers understand the problem and that your team is working towards a clear and concise solution. As I move forward in a career in this field I would like to achieve credibility as an individual who can consistently provide a solid product that meets the customers’ needs one hundred percent of the time. In the case that a customer isn’t satisfied I would like to make sure that we cover ourselves on all fronts and provide the customer with what they need. Moving into the future I would like to begin to carve out a new “solutions”, firm for myself. Not only would I bring designers and developers but, I would also like to bring in systems and industrial engineers so we could solve not only technological problems but, also systems and industrial issues. My solutions firm would operate in a private contracting fashion where we would offer out our services to businesses and corporations in …show more content…
One week you could find yourself working to develop a new software program that help real estate developers while the next week you’re working with a school system to develop a student roster program. It is all very relative to the company you represent or the firm you operate. Something about this industry that I find very interesting is its attachment to defense contracting with the military. I could own and operate my own firm that solely develops programs and systems used by the government. This is the kind of work I would sought after as continuing work for the nation that serves a greater purpose is a task my team and myself could get
When people are younger everyone always ask what do you want to be when you are older? Of course when it is children everyone is filled with wonder about their answer whether it’s a model, astronaut, race car driver, etc. Now that I’m older it’s expected for me to know exactly what to do with my life and how to do it. I realized very soon that I sometimes can be an indecisive person when it comes to life-long decisions. This being a huge decision in one’s life you could only imagine how many times I’ve changed my idea on what to go to school for. Although, changing my mind become a norm, I eventually decided a degree in business/marketing is the right path for me. What are my career and educational goals, what will my job would be like, and
Following college graduation, I desired a purposeful career but was initially unsure which profession to pursue. I
As a child growing up I was taught that being a business man was substantial in becoming a man. My father always made it his responsibility to engineer the foundation of business. His main goal for his son was to become an entrepreneur. Unfortunately, I became interested in a different field. With the same intentions of staying in business, business analyst grew on me unexpectedly. My father being the disciplinarian kept me business orientated but sports had an effect as well. Life began to hit me once I was leaving High School. As a high school student, I chose to take business classes but my attention was more so in sports. As a basketball player for 1-2 years and taking business classes, I became distracted in finding my career until I took this business class. The business class involved analyzing a business organization to examine its weakness and
I am hoping that the career as a financial advisor is right for me from what I hear from everyone, it seems like a pretty good field to get into. During this paper I plan to find whether this career is actually for me or if it’s time that I change my major yet again. Since I really don’t know what I want to do with the rest of my life, and the career as a financial advisor is just something that came to me in my thoughts I really hope I can find what I need to know to make a decision if this is what I want my life to be.
One of the most important decisions that any high school student or young adult has to make is deciding what they want to spend the rest of their life doing. Coming into this year I didn't have a clue what I wanted to have as my career. Obviously everybody has their dream job, mine being a pro basketball player overseas, but everybody needs a backup plan if their dreams do not pan out. Recently, I started researching certain careers and taking tests ,such as the WISCareers interest inventory, to decide what career would fit my interests the best. After all the tests and research, I came to the conclusion that becoming a loan officer was what suited me and my interests the best("WISCareers")."Loan officers evaluate, authorize, or recommend approval of loan applications for people and businesses"("Bureau of Labor Statistics"). Being a loan officer is the perfect job for me because they have flexible hours, an above average salary, and a limited amount of schooling.
Right now I have a fairly accurate idea concerning what I want to do with my life. My love for computers has taken me a long way and I have a strong feeling that I will continue in the field of computer science. Yet, I am also aware that I may change my mind several times before I begin a career. College will introduce me to new and various things, and I will develop new interests from this exposure. The world of technology is changing rapidly and computers seem like the best way to go. When I combine that and my love for computers I am almost certain that the field of computer science is right for me.
These examples of career changes reflect a common trend—increased job mobility. The linear career path that once kept people working in the same job, often for the same company, is not the standard career route for today's workers. Today, many workers are pursuing varied career paths that reflect sequential career changes. This set of ongoing changes in career plans, direction, and employers portrays the lifetime progression of work as a composite of experiences. This Digest explores how changing technologies and global competitiveness have led to redefinition of interests, abilities, and work options that influence career development.
For so many years I’ve asked myself the question, “what are you going to do with your life?” For a period of time I struggled with this question. Today, I sit staring at my computer, confronting myself, asking my subconscious “what do I want to do for the rest of my life?” Have I finally found the answer I 've been looking for, or am I under the false assumption that this is the right path for me. This semester has been the ultimate opportunity to explore my questions, doubt, issues, and concerns. I feel that by the end of this paper I will have answered all these questions, and will have made the best decision for my future.
Coming to the point of my current career choice has been a long road. My idea of what a career is or should be has changed with circumstances and age. According to Weintraub (2005), “the average worker spends only four years in a job and will have 12 jobs in as many as five career fields during his or her working life.” (para. 1) My first career was marriage and motherhood followed by a surprising healthcare career. What the future holds waits to be seen. With a bachelor of science degree in information technology the options are wide open.
Becoming a Software Engineer is not the easiest of tasks. To become a Software Engineer you would usually major in Computer Science (CUnet 1). A Computer Science degree is the most common degree among Software Engineers. It’s the most common because it covers a broad range of topics that Software Engineers need to know for this occupation (U.S. Department of Labor 1). Software Engineer’s need at least a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science to get hired by companies. Even though Computer Science is the most common degree Software Engineer’s have, there are also other subjects that they major in (U.S. Department of Labor 1). It is recommended that while pursuing a degree to become a Software Engineer, students should participate in internships, and to participate in projects to be hired by companies once they are out of college (Career Focus 1). If a Software Engineer does not major in Computer Sciences, they will most likely major in Computer Information Systems, Software Engineering, or mathematics (CUnet 2). To become a Software Engineer liking math, and having an engineering sense is a must, liking math and being good at it will help significantly whi...
A Network Administrator is a person who manages and organizes a data communication network for an organization. To explain it more specifically Techopedia defines it well as “the management and maintenance of switches, routers, firewalls, VPN gateways, etc. In smaller companies, the network administrator is often a jack-of-all trades and involved in the configuration of databases, installation, maintenance and upgrading of software, management of user accounts and security groups, desktop support, and sometimes even basic software development.” this person is often the highest level of technical staff employed. A person who poses the skills of critical thinking, problem solving, and time management should consider a degree in network administration
However, I am still not 100% certain what I want to do for a career. In finance, there are so many options to consider. For example, I’ve looked into being a financial manager, an investment banker, or even a corporate lawyer. If I were to choose financial management as my career, the latest Internet trends impact that industry tremendously. When managing funds for a company, I would have access to all the information I need at my fingertips. However, I would need to pay careful attention to how e-commerce affects the company’s and the competition’s customers. Also, with all the information so accessible, people are finding ways to manage their money without the help of professionals. This could lead to a drop in demand for financial planners and managers. I, personally, don’t feel like this will be a huge issue since people will always need advice on saving for retirement or allocating their wealth. However, it is something to be aware of and might affect my career decision later on down the road. On the other end of the
The role of the architect is a question that evokes a spectrum of answers from Norman Foster’s definition; ‘Architect is an expression of values… the way we build is a reflection of the way we live.’ [Foster, cited in Tholl, 2014: Online] This debate of who and what an architect should be and do is not a recent one to emerge but has lead many architects and designers as far back as Vitruvius [15BC] to produce documentation on what they believed to be the make-up of an architect. In Vitruvius’ ‘The Ten Books On Architecture’ he quickly establishes two fragments that make an architect, the manual skill and the theory and scholarship.
There are 25 major specialties in engineering that are recognized by professional societies. In any one of those 25 specialties, the goal of the engineer is the same. The goal is to be able to come up with a cost effective design that aids people in the tasks they face each day. Whether it be the coffee machine in the morning or the roads and highways we travel, or even the cars we travel in, it was all an idea that started with an engineer. Someone engineered each idea to make it the best solution to a problem. Even though engineer’s goals are similar, there are many different things that engineers do within their selected field of engineering. This paper will focus on the architectural field of engineering.
Choosing a career is very important in a person’s life. Over the past two decades, many professions have change significantly with the influx of technological developments. One needs to think about the things that interest them and what kind of lifestyle they want to have. Some things a person should think about are what qualifications are needed, what type of training is necessary, and the future need of the career they choose. Some other things to consider would be how much money they will make, what is the probability of advancement, and does the career satisfy their need for an enjoyable life.
