1. Introduction Due to the important of energy in the development of economic and prosperity of a country and with the growth of worldwide population and industrialization, the demand of energy has been dramatically increasing. However, the use fossil fuel to produce energy has many negative effects on the environment such as increasing the world’s carbon dioxide and depletion of fossil fuel resources which are serious issues these days. As the result, renewable energy, namely wind, solar, biomass and geothermal energy, has been encouraged by many countries as its sustainable use and not contributing to the world’s carbon dioxide emissions. Specifically, as the sun is the most abundant, reliable and pollution-free power in the world, solar power is becoming an alternative energy and has an immense potential to meet the future world’s energy demands. However, solar power depends on many factors such as the sunshine, weather and sun power systems which are potentially prevent it becoming a more utilized energy resource. The purpose of this report is to investigate the problems with using solar power as an alternative energy and suggest possible solutions to these. Firstly, this report describes two important problems with solar power, namely the expensive cost and low efficiency. Secondly, the report suggest that the support of government is a possible solution to the expensive cost and low efficiency can be solved by the development of technology in solar power system. Finally, this report concludes by proposing recommendations which governments and scientists can adopt in order to lessen these problems and make solar power become a reliable and widely utilized energy source. 2. Secondly, the low efficiency may improve by the innovation of technology which are the technical and design improvement on photovoltaic systems, storage systems and concentrated solar power systems. The above findings demonstrate the need to mitigate problems with using solar power not only because it is an alternative energy but also because solar power has huge long-term benefits as an endless, sustainable and clean future energy. Therefore, this report recommends that government need more promotion in future to support and boost the research and development of solar energy system which also need the collaboration of the scientist on technical issues. A further recommendation is public encourage in order to widely utilize solar energy in the world.
One of the issues that has a significant influence on sustainable economic and social development is energy. The utilization of energy results in climate change owing to its impact on environment by greenhouse gas emissions. This is resulted from the convention of using oil, gas, and coal that emit CO2, NOx and other poisoning substances into the air. The national strategy of China is to reduce this pollution by replacing fossil fuels with alternative energy such as wind, nuclear, geothermal, hydropower or solar energy. (Zhen 2008). Qian and Ling state that Northwest China is an ideal place to develop solar energy, the energy used by absorption of sun radiation, because there is a very wide access to sun heating, which is about 2000 hours a year. (Qian and Ling 1998). However, since there is a very little support from science, government and market, that fact causes the main difficulties to popularize this energy. Despite high prices some of the solar energy technologies have been already installed, and after several years’ costs decreasing the economic growth enables China to achieve the highest level of solar energy development in the world in 10 years.(Bullis 2010, 53). Although there are many useful and perspective features of applying solar energy technologies, the purpose of this study is to analyze advantages and disadvantages of the impact of solar energy and using these technologies on environment and economy in China. Firstly, there will be discussed the role of solar energy in environmental, socio-economical, and political issues. Then several kinds of solar energy technologies and their application will be demonstrated and analyzed. Finally, the answer for the question whether China should spread the development of the...
Preview: Today I will discuss the potential that solar power has to become this country’s main supply of energy and the latest research that can make solar power more efficient and cost effective. I will also present the environmental benefits that come with using solar power over other and more harmful forms of energy.
How solar energy, a non-fossil energy resource, non CO2 producing technology, can disrupt man’s addiction to oil gas and coal and reduce CO2 emissions.
With the growing cost of fuel for cars and the rolling blackouts of last summer, the need for an alternative, cost-effective, environment friendly energy source is escalating. Many possible solutions have been presented, such as nuclear power, wind power, and hydrogen fuel cells; prevalent among these is solar power.
The future of the United States solar energy industry will be shaped not only by economic growth, but also by the rate of declining oil resources and the global realization of the consequences of human induced climate change. Political responses to this realization in the United States include; new policies, legislature, and tax incentives to both businesses and private households to promote growth and investment in the solar power industry.
The sun has been a major aspect of life since the beginning of time. People used many other forms of energy before electricity was discovered. There has been a debate over energy resources for years. Many people are worried about what current energy resources may be doing to the environment. Oil spills and nuclear power plant mishaps have only been a few accidents that have had a big impact on the environment and the people who inhabit it. There are plenty of energy sources that do not harm the environment and are still able to get the job done. Solar energy is one energy alternative that will insure the betterment of the country and, at the same time, protect the natural environment.
Solar Photovoltaic power is one of the rapid growing energy sources in the world. The need for energy security and stability is driving governments across the world to promote and develop renewable power sources. The global solar Photovoltaic market witnessed high growth in 2009 and 2010, with 24,600 MW of installed capacity coming online in these two years compared to the 8,912 MW installed in 2007 and 2008. Cumulative installed capacity increased from 16,127 MW in 2008 to 40,727 MW in 2010. Europe is the leading solar PV market, with a share of 76% of the total cumulative installed capacity, followed by the Asia-Pacific region, accounting for a share of 16.0% in 2010.
India is blessed with ample solar energy available which in turn can produce 5000 trillion KWS power by having average 300 sunny days per year and solar insolation of 4-7 kWh per Sq. m per day. Thus efficient trapping of solar energy could provide an alternative to fossil fuel dependent energy production. With increase in demand for power, now private sector has also started to invest in solar power due to better technological maturity and cost competitiveness. Technology for transforming solar radiation energy into both heat and electricity can harness solar energy effectively and have huge potential in scaling up power production. As there is positive correlation between energy requirement and GDP of the country, solar energy can address energy deficit in demand by both Off-Grid power supply ...
Solar power is one of the renewable energy resources that was develops to replace the fossil fuel. It was one of the most convenient and clean energy resources that are available in the earth. The solar power operations involve the conversion of sun power to electric power with the use of photovoltaic cell. The whole process is clean and will not produce pollutant to environment. In 2011, the International Energy Agency encourages all countries to develop solar power technologies. They emphasis that the early development investment cost should not be cut down and the research should be shared among the countries as solar power technologies brings huge global long terms benefits toward mankind. Such an advantages include: increase the countries energy security as solar power is a free and inexhaustible resources that can be obtain from the sun, reduce the pollutant toward the environments, and decrease the energy dependent toward fossil fuels which will lower the price of fossil fuel. These energy resources are the mos...
Solar energy is a renewable natural source of power that can be used to refuel vehicles but can also heat and light homes; which can potentially enable users to not rely on public utility companies to supply power. The creation of solar energy requires little maintenance. Once the solar panels have been installed and they are brought up to maximum efficiency there is little else to do to ensure they are in working order. As governments are doing their part by encouraging citizens to recycle, they also realize the importance of creating renewable sources of electricity; worldwide and locally they offer rebates and monetary incentives to those who install solar panels and solar hot water systems. Solar energy facilities can generate electricity whether there is sun shining or not. As the advancements in solar technology and the price of solar electricity begins to go down, tra...
I am certain that all have heard of the terms greenhouse gases, fossil fuels, and global warming. Have you ever questioned what will happen if nothing is done about the environmental problems facing the world today? What if I answer you that, we can merely use the power from the sun to power up our entire planet without the use of harmful energy sources, which affect our atmosphere? The power from the sun is what we call solar power. Solar power is the energy that comes from the sun as light and heat energy, and then it is later converted into electrical energy through solar panels (Nelson, 2008).
The Earth captures around 342 W/m2 of energy from the sun. This energy is in the form of solar radiation, which the atmosphere reflects about 77 W/m2 and will absorb around 68 W/m2 of solar radiation annually. Therefore, the Earth’s surface is receiving, on average, about 197 W/m2 of solar radiation annually. This amount of energy received is roughly more than 10,000 times the amount of all energy humans consume per year. This energy can be used to produce electricity or heat. This energy source is not being used to it’s potential considering how much effort would come into effect to store and transport this energy.
Regarding solar power, Mistry claims that although the solar power does not generate pollution, it has a lot of costs. Building solar panels with photovoltaic equipment has high costs. For instance, a photovoltaic system for a home can cost around $35,000 (Kumar, 2012). However, if our goal for the future is to create a healthy environment, switching fossil fuels for solar power might be the best choice to achieve that goal. According to Kumar (2012), Solar power is a clean and renewable energy so, it decreases the dependency on fossil fuel and also reduces the air pollution.
The sun shines upon Earth every day, yet no one thinks much of it. Solar power’s importance, though, is above what anyone could have ever imagined. There is active solar energy, which is when solar power is converted into light, heat, cause air-movement for ventilation or cooling, or store heat for future use. Less thought of, the other type of solar energy is passive energy, which most take for granted. Solar power provides life with heat, light, and now, electricity. Solar power also plays a role in 4 of the 5 areas of green technology: energy, green building, environmentally preferred purchasing, and green chemistry. All in all, solar power is quite a unique form of energy.
Solar energy is the energy that we get from sun. Solar energy is most readily source of energy. It does not belong to anybody and hence it is free. It is the most important non-conventional source of energy because it is non-polluting and therefore helps in reducing greenhouse effect.
