The researcher examined who is at fault in a rape situation. This researcher believes rape is never the victim’s fault, no matter what the situation may be. She believes individuals are blind to the existing issues that are involved with rape. Rape may only be considered physical, but there are existing mental issues that come from the tragedy of being raped. Many women are attacked “verbally and through social media” with information stating that the circumstance was “her fault” (Nathman, 2013). After seeing and hearing these thoughts from the public, the victim soon believes if she had not been in the situation she was in then she would have not been raped. In past years, once a judge heard a woman was drunk, or being flirtatious, they seemed to let the man go free or with short jail times. People feel more women judges let the man go free because the judges feel if they were in that situation then it would not happen to them (Writer, 2016). They feel the women should know how to protect themselves. Many women avoid taking their cases to the courts because they feel the judges will not do anything in their favor. The researcher thinks women stop trying and reaching out for life lines if they are not given the help they need. Writer (2016) explains many cases of judges asking women, “Why did you not keep your knees together?” (para 10) This shows why women do not want to go to the courts. They feel they will be made a fool of, undermined, and no one in the court takes them seriously. The researcher believes rape victims seem to want help, and try to find it, though they do not know how to ask for it and receive it. Rape victims need the strength and courage to reach out and speak to people to find the right type of help instead of balling up what happened (Asher, 2017, episode …show more content…

They explain an issue where a 24 year old woman was raped by her ex-husband while she was alone in her home. He still had a key to their house and walked in and attacked her drunkenly while she was asleep in her bed. She tried to run away and ran to the kitchen. He followed her into the kitchen he grabbed a knife, bashed her head, cut her throat, and threatened to kill her, just before he raped her. After he finished he wept, said he was sorry and left. The woman never told anyone because she felt it was her fault because she did not change the locks on her doors. The researcher feels it is not the woman's fault because how was she to know he kept the key to the house or even planned to enter the house uninvitingly.
