Feminism refers to a broad range of ideas, approaches, and ideologies directed towards advocating for gender and sex equality for women. Feminism is a movement that seek to achieve equality and social rights for women in all key areas which includes education, personal, economic, employment, and cultural sphere of human endeavors. Activists of the feminist movements have used social and political theories to campaign for women’s rights and freedom where sexuality and gender-based political thinking have created imbalances for the women in society. The feminist movements have also campaigned for the protection of girls and women from sexual harassment, rape and violence within the home.

The theory of feminism encompasses the fields of sociology, economics, anthropology, and philosophy. The theory focuses on the study of gender inequality and the understanding of power relations, sexuality, and gender politics. With this we can further explain the differences in economic standings of men and women in the workplace and overall net worth. We can also further delve into sociological impacts of feminism and how it shines light on social problems, issues and trends that can be overlooked or misidentified by the generally male dominated perspective. The problem with the feminist theory is that many people believe that it focuses on promoting women superiority which is incorrect. The feminist theory at its core is equality of women. This survey was taken anonymously by 54 participants and out of 54 participants, 42 of them answered the free response. Once the survey was completed we received the results and joined up all the data. Our research revealed that a large percent of the population that took the survey tended to follow the norm of what one would define as feminism. For example, question 6 was “men and women experience equal amounts of sexism.” Out of 54 responses, 27.18% responded with strongly disagree and another 46.30% chose to respond with agree. The rest of the responses where spread relatively evenly between neutral, agree and strongly agree. What this data shows us is that a majority of the people who took this survey realized the difference men and women suffer in media. Examples of this difference are how women are portrayed: timid, submissive, nerdy, and prude. Then on the other side of the spectrum we have women who are: empowered (bitchy), highly sexual, dumb, eye candy. Up until recently women have generally fallen
