Identifying as a professional social worker is one of the competencies I know most about. As being a professional, it is entirely how to do your role within an agency and what you do to serve others. Depending on the organization, there are going to be different types of how one can be professional. I believe that regardless wherever you go, you have to know your agency, know what the goal is and help others when a problem arrises. Lastly, as being a professional it is mainly about knowing what you bring to the organization to serve those around you. Therefore, as my learning grew I witnessed residents admission packet before future resident are coming to live in Hultquist Place. It was a lot of information to gather for the staff gather in a mezzo group to decide if they are eligible to live there or not. Once the residents felt comfortable with me, I let them ask me questions if they needed help. This can be an micro or mezzo level depending on who was asking and what I did to help them. As you can see in Reflection Log from week September 15-September 17 from a formal time when a resident needed assistance and she needed logging into her email. I went out of my way to help her and when she was finished, I decided to make her a small “cheat sheet” of instructions for she can do it independently or if I’m not interning that day. Most of these times we were doing mezzo work which helped me understand other points of views, besides myself. Lastly, for my micro level activity was when I noticed during some of the monthly activities I was assisting with, I realized it had a lot of similarities, so I decided to speak up and advocate for the residents. I politely asked if residents be expanded to more variety for the month, and I realize that they didn’t change them throughout my time there.
