Social work is a caring profession that requires an empathetic approach and understanding of individual needs, and concern is an important part of being able to help clients, make the appropriate decisions for their well-being. Compassion and good judgment are required. This essay will describe and discuss these two most important qualities required to be a good social worker. Compassion is a feeling of deep sympathy and sorrow for another who is stricken by misfortune, accompanied by a strong desire to improve the issue. It takes a special person to have certain qualities such as caring personality, such as positive attitude, such as have commitment and skills to provide clients and their families well-being, reassuring client culture, values, beliefs and personal preference by gaining understanding of the client needs by ways of Advocate and how to apply the principles to work practice for clients and their families, whanau so that their input is valued and respected. Also be able to comfort and offer a hug and a smile to ensure clients that their current situation will be okay. It is required that social workers understand, when and how to apply help to people in need and decision making, by using their skills to improve the clients well-being. However will also have collated information regarding how to assists clients and their families. Ensuring clients are able to make decision without worrying, also understand of their right participate in their well-being. They are expected to use this knowledge in supporting and prepare clients and their families with difficult choice ahead, without these qualities will be difficult to help client and families
