I knew I loved to help others but it was not until I was an emerging adult that I knew what my calling was. My devotion to improve the quality of life for those who are disadvantaged is one of the reasons I have chosen to pursue a Master’s in Social Work. After obtaining my masters, I plan on diversifying my masters by getting licensed and becoming a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I would like to study social work because I feel it will lead me directly to one of the most emotionally fulfilling careers available, as well as giving me the chance to combine helping people 's mental well being with their physical

After much prayer and soul searching, Kathy made the decision to attend classes at Bellevue University to work on her degree in
He tried so hard to apply for the pre-nursing program. When he had found out that he wasn’t accepted into the nursing program. His adviser at the time suggested trying the social work program. His advisor stated that he could ‘work in the medical field, but as a person who treat those who are abused, unfit parents, or addicts. The essential decision he came across was in his freshman year of undergraduate. His professor who taught introduction to social work told them, “If you 're in this class or major in social work because of the high pay you should change your major. This class and career are purely judged on how dedicated and compassionate you are to those who are in need.” Mr. Hemphill decided that he wants to reach out and understand the stability people have. Thus, he stayed in class, went to undergrad and graduate school to become a Medical Social
The MSW degree along with my bachelors in psychology gives me a great opportunity to build my career as a social worker who will strive to act as a leader and empower others to help those in need. When I have gained efficient experience and expertise in my role as a social worker, I want to educate others on child welfare and family violence. Sharing knowledge and educating is a boundless way to make an impact and promote resilience within the
Policies can be quite useful when it comes to providing assistance to others. The social work profession is dedicated towards enabling all types of individuals, groups, and communities to function, contribute and progress in society (The West Scotland Consortium, 2000). In particular, Obama’s Race to the Top initiative helps social workers assist students in achieving their higher education goals. This includes making the act of attending college a more achievable dream for those who are interested in doing so; with this policy’s focus on higher ed...
Another experience that has shaped my decision to become a school counselor has been my continuing work with VCU’s Addiction and Women’s Health: Advancing Research and Evaluation (A.W.H.A.R.E.) Research Team under the direction of Dr. Dace Svikis. With the A.W.H.A.R.E. Research Team, I work with at-risk pregnant women. I have had the opportunity to inform women about our studies, conduct interviews, and enter data into the SPSS dataset. However, more importantly I have witnessed the struggles faced by people with limited resources. Through my experience, I know that my interest lies in directly influencing individuals to b...
To provide effective social services, a social work graduate must possess a multitude of knowledge, skills and abilities. This will be a reflective paper on everything that I know for sure as a student of social work who is about to go into the world of work.
The field placement experience at Silver Saddle group home allowed me the opportunity to put into practice what I have learned while in the Social Work program her at Northern Arizona University. Throughout field placement I have had the opportunity to practice on a micro, mezzo, and macro level and strengthen my professional social work skill while maintaining a ethical standpoint. Field has also allowed me hands on experience to advocate for clients, insure social justice, provide services, and build strong relationships with clients and the community.
I have felt drawn to support and strengthen the communities I am connected to for several years now. Although it took sometime to trace my passion for helping those in need, upon reflection I am able to clearly see a pattern of people, agencies and institutions that provided the additional support I needed to be successful. This support is the primary reason I have chosen the human services profession. From an early age I witnessed how social workers can help those struggling to find the resources they need to foster change.

Galina Soracheva began her academic journey into the world of social work at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay in the fall of 2015(G. Soracheva, personal communication, July 27, 2017). I attended the same program with Galina, so the following statements are verified by my own personal experience, as a BSW (Bachelor's of Social Work) graduate. In my opinion, the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay BSW social work program can be considered the most well known social work program in the northeast Wisconsin area. During my time in the program, I learned how to initiate social change while maintaining a client centered perspective in practice.
The origins of social work in the United States mirror an ongoing growth of ideas put together from many different cultures. While modern social work here in the states were built on Christian idea many of its concepts are in part due to the influence of the Koran and the mutual aid practices of Native Americans, the African-American community, and immigrants from all over the world.
On July 7th I had an interview opportunity with the Oasis Shelter in Owensboro, Kentucky. This was one of the numerous opportunities that I placed on my possible field interest to receive an internship at. I met with the director of the Oasis shelter in Henderson, Kentucky that afternoon for the interview. The interview went well, and I informed the director that I was a Sociology undergrad student looking to expand my knowledge with domestic violence. Towards the end of the interview, the director informed me “we do not accept many Master of Social Work students because MSW’s are know it all. The student thinks they know more than individuals in the social work field with five or more years of knowledge.” I received the directors contact
