Those who are able to break free of social norms are the ones who are truly free. The official definition of freedom is the power or right to act, think or speak as one wants without hindrance or restraint. Perhaps this was a valid definition for the men and women who risked their lives for their civil rights however freedom now has a different definition. Freedom is the power to escape. People who are able to escape society and social norms are able to think differently than everyone else and are able to look at things through different lenses with different mindsets. That is true freedom. From the moment you were born, you’re mind began to pick up on things. As you grew, you began to understand the difference between right and wrong and you began to learn stereotypes and other social ideologies. We all know what the expected life is. You should grow up to get a good college education, get married, have kids and go into your selected career path. Then after all of that, retire and live happily ever after. However, this doesn’t apply to everyone and shouldn’t apply to everyone. Despite the system that is in place, you should be able to do whatever you want. Whether that is dropping out of high school to pursue a career in professional gaming or even just living with your parents if that is what makes you comfortable. Lastly, we need to break the mold of a “normal” person. We shouldn’t try to think, talk and act like everyone else because deep down, none of us are alike in most cases. We should want to be different than everyone else. Make an identity for yourself by wearing what you want, talking about what you want and thinking about what you want. We shouldn’t hide behind this ideal image of a person but rather embrace and celebrate our
According to Dictionary.com freedom means “the state of being uncontrolled by another, or at liberty rather than in confinement or under physical restraint.” Freedom. What does freedom mean to you? Even though freedom means the state of being uncontrolled by another, or at liberty rather than in confinement or under physical restraint, I believe that freedom means being able to accomplish what you desire and when you desire it without anyone saying anything, by reason of the comparison and contrast of our society and the society in the book Anthem by Ayn Rand, the negation of the word freedom, and synonyms of the word freedom. I believe that you should accept the consequences of the actions you take when you have your “freedom” as well.

Yet another group will argue that both aspects must be present for true freedom to exist.

...nnot escape it. What is it to be completely free? Does it mean that one can never feel he belongs to any particular country, class, or type of thinking as Krishnamurti writes in his essay. We have to search for answers by questioning ourselves and social values.
Freedom is having the right to own, act, think, and speak without any restrictions from the outside. Ever since the New World was discovered, people have been fighting for their independence till this day. People of other colors and race have been forced to do labor without their consent. Today, those same people have been blamed or accused of crimes that were not committed by them despite of being free. Freedom has different meanings and those meanings change overtime; however sometimes the significance of freedom does not change.
There are many things that influence our behavior from internal influences to social norms. Social norms are implicit or explicit rules that govern how we behave in society (Maluso, class notes). Breaking a social norm is not an easy task and often leads us feeling uncomfortable whether we broke the norm ourselves or witnessed someone else breaking it. Sometimes however, you just have to break a norm to see what happens.
Freedom is often spoken of in what can be referred to as a loose sense of the word. One country has more freedom than another; a twenty-one year old has more freedom than a fifteen year old. What exactly does this word mean? For different people it may mean different things, but there has to be an equilibrium that can be reached in order to determine the meaning of freedom itself. In one form, freedom can mean that a person has "exemption from an obligation."* If only the root (free) is looked at, it can be interpreted that one is "not under the control or power of another."*

I'm feeling very tired and stressful. I didn’t expect that Blanche would act in such a way towards us.
