Those who are able to break free of social norms are the ones who are truly free. The official definition of freedom is the power or right to act, think or speak as one wants without hindrance or restraint. Perhaps this was a valid definition for the men and women who risked their lives for their civil rights however freedom now has a different definition. Freedom is the power to escape. People who are able to escape society and social norms are able to think differently than everyone else and are able to look at things through different lenses with different mindsets. That is true freedom. From the moment you were born, you’re mind began to pick up on things. As you grew, you began to understand the difference between right and wrong and you began to learn stereotypes and other social ideologies. We all know what the expected life is. You should grow up to get a good college education, get married, have kids and go into your selected career path. Then after all of that, retire and live happily ever after. However, this doesn’t apply to everyone and shouldn’t apply to everyone. Despite the system that is in place, you should be able to do whatever you want. Whether that is dropping out of high school to pursue a career in professional gaming or even just living with your parents if that is what makes you comfortable. Lastly, we need to break the mold of a “normal” person. We shouldn’t try to think, talk and act like everyone else because deep down, none of us are alike in most cases. We should want to be different than everyone else. Make an identity for yourself by wearing what you want, talking about what you want and thinking about what you want.
