There are pros and cons to this theory in regards to social media. When people get bored, they turn to social media for entertainment. They can check up on family or friends or see what the trending news is up to. Then before people know it, the simple amusement becomes a huge distraction. The number of people connect with social media is endless and they are all so unique, they can spend an infinite time browsing social media without even getting bored. Many people find themselves online way more often than they should. This creates a problem when it comes to schoolwork or study. It is easy to get distracted and venture onto social media. They may not have the intention to stay for long but before you know it, it has been hours passed and no work has been done. While on the other hand, social media comes with the possibility of causing isolation in many situations, putting themselves in danger when they do not know whom they were talking to. 1 Paradigm of the Study
In the diagram, social networking sites is independent variable and the dominance of social networking sites on students. The uses and satisfaction explains about how long or often and what makes the students satisfy in using the social media. The purpose of this study is to determine whether the social media affects the student’s academic performance.
Statement of the Problem Nowadays, social media is called to be a giant in this world. The main question is: what purpose is the students utilizing social networking? Social media poses many threats in today’s society it is accessible from any computer, phone, or etc with an internet connection. This means that is easier for children as young as eight to connect social media site. More and more people are isolating themselves and losing their ability or desire to interact with real people in real life. Specifically, the study answered the following questions:
1. What is the profile of the respondents in terms of: a. Age b. Gender c. Number of social media they are using d. Length of exposure to social media e. Nature of exposure to social media

According to Nair (2011), “The social media property on the web is exploding and fast becoming a necessary part of the arsenal of any organization. It took 38 years for the radio to attract 50 million listeners, and 13 years for television to gain the attention of 50 million viewers. The Internet took only four years to attract 50 million participants, and Facebook reached 50 million participants in only one-and-a-half years. Facebook, which was originally designed for Harvard students and launched in 2004, has become a phenomenal example of social engagement. By 2009, Facebook had already achieved 100 million monthly active users covering age groups from 13 to 65; by the end of 2010, there were more than 500 million users. Many students believe they are capable of multitasking and finishing their work with cohesive and logical connections. Netherlands psychologist Paul A.
