A strong bond between nurse and patient is built from trust. The patient needs to be assured that all their deepest personal information and basic dignity is safe in the hands of the Nurse. Breaching this trust, even if it’s unintentional may cause harm to the patient-nurse relationship and possibly trustworthiness of the occupation. (National Council of State Boards of Nursing , 2011)
Professional boundaries
Nurses must obtain their professionalism at all time. This includes having professional boundaries with the patients when using Social Media. Associating with the patient via Social Media as a colleague or any other relationship that goes over the patient-nurse relationship, runs the danger of breaching the professional relationship. (Henderson & Dahnke , 2015) It is also stated in the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) Code of Professional Conduct that it is the responsibility of the Nurses to maintain a professional boundary with the patients.
