Imagine if every day, middle school students had a social hour after school when they were able to talk, play games, and learn together. During this time, there would surely be fighting and drama among the students, but in general, it would be great! Though it has recently been given a bad rap, this is what social media is like for middle schoolers. Social media should be encouraged for middle school students as a way to communicate, learn, and share experiences with friends.
Social media is an excellent tool that anyone can use to communicate with people around the world. Social media is the best way for people to stay in touch with friends, family, and their favorite celebrities, no matter where they are in the world. Perhaps the greatest part of social media is that it can let anyone to get to know anyone with it. There are many sites that help students study. For example, Quizlet is an online platform that lets students create their own online studying flashcards and share them with their classmates. Students can use the internet to get updates on assignments and ask teachers questions outside of school, like on Edmodo, a site that lets teachers give their students assignments and create a “digital classroom.” Social media can also make it easy for students to coordinate group projects by creating chat groups or help each other with assignments.
