Social Justice is defined as “justice in terms of the distribution of wealth, opportunities, and privileges within a society.” There are several different aspects of Social Justice. For instance, there is equality. A person should not face social or economic hardship based upon their gender, religion, race, social class or any other differentiating quality. The aim of Social Justice is to ensure that every person is provided with equal opportunity to succeed. We currently live in a socially unjust world. According to UNICEF, 22,000 children die each day due to poverty. More than 805 million people worldwide do not have enough food to eat. There are many people in the world that are without access to food, water, or shelter because they are extremely poor. Children that are raised in families in poverty often resort to committing crimes such as robbery, gang affiliation, and drug trafficking in order to gain money quickly. In order to live in a well-functioning socially just society, we must face the issue of poverty. To fix this problem we must create more shelters. To start, we can increase the minimum wage and create more jobs for the unemployed. We must also help those without an education. We can hold food drives and donate to local charities to help those in need. I most likely will not live to see a wholly “socially just” world. It will take a long time to accomplish this but taking little steps will help. It will take teamwork to fight for certain things. For example, you can ask some friends to run a food drive to help the hungry and share your prosperity with others. Help people in your life who you know that struggle with certain things such as poverty. Helping to create a socially just world will create a sense of person fulfillment because you will know you are helping others. In order to create a socially just world, you need to think about yourself less and consider others. A socially just world will result in fewer crimes because everyone will be equal and every person will prosper. Everyone deserves equal distribution of opportunity. People will get along better because every person will be accepted in society. A world without equality will prevent people from fully developing into the person they hope to become.
