Imagine a chilly morning with no school. The soothing television is on and you have your warm pajamas on while drinking some hot cocoa. You step outside to the cold breeze of winter and snowflakes falling onto your head. However, those snowflakes went through a long process and many other things. Think about that next time you see the thousands of glistening snowflakes falling down from the sky. Today, I will inform you on the origins of snowflakes, their appearance and misconceptions, and the impact they've had on our society. To begin with, Snowflakes are often taken for granted. Those miniature snowflakes that people just forget about, have a very interesting story behind them. Those small-scale flakes were once water that evaporated into the air. When the air temperature turned 32 degrees Fahrenheit or lower, the water vapor turned from gas to a solid. The frozen water, better known as ice crystals, forms around dust and dirt in the air. Ice crystals combine in mostly hexagonal shapes which gives snowflakes their six branches. Did you know that each snowflake may contain up to 200 ice crystals? …show more content…
I mean come on, they are the icon of Winter. However, did you know that those designs are completely wrong. A major misconception is the sides of those snowflakes. As I mentioned in the previous paragraph, snowflakes have six branches due to ice crystals. So why is it that those shops or books portray them in such a wrong way? Can't a two second google search do the job? We may never get the answers but we now know that snowflakes will most likely never be given the right
Lake effect snow was not a quick discovery compared to other forms of weather. In the 1800’s when there was no satellites or weather radar to track a storm, early day forecasters would have to get observations from spotters across the country and provide a one and two day forecast on the type of weather that may ...
Blizzards are formed when the difference between the lower pressure in the storm and the higher pressure to the west creates a tight pressure gradient, or a difference in pressure in two locations, which in turn leads to very high winds. These strong winds pick up snow from the ground, or blow any snow that is falling, can then cause the significant drifting of snow (“Blizzards”).
“At 12:42 p.m. the air was perfectly calm for about one minute; the next minute the sky was completely overcast by heavy black clouds which, for a few minutes previous, had hung along the western and northwestern horizon, and the wind veered to the west and blew with such violence as to render the position of the observer on the roof unsafe. The air was immediately filled with snow as fine as sifted flour” (Potter). No one expected the blizzard that would soon come rolling over to create some of the unfortunate deaths. Now, the questions are what exactly happened during the storm, how are snowstorms created, and what damages it caused.
The snow globe was given to me before college, even before my final year in high school. It was a random day in the summer of 2002. That was the summer before my senior year of high school. It had been one stormy week of summer. I do not mean literally in the sense that the weather was like the end of the world type weather, but mentally and physically for me the past weeks have been nothing but thunder and lightening going off in my head. A gray storm cloud had been hanging around over my head, raining on me and only me. It was because during the last three weeks of summer vacation, I had spent hours upon hours in my high school looking at the concrete walls painted as though a rainbow had thrown up inside the school. My time had been spent on trying to fix my schedule of classes, so that I could have the perfect balance of classes to slack off in and ones that would impress colleges. The lazy counselor was taking her time and needed me to return almost everyday so that she could lecture me about her personal life. This information was important to the reason why she continued to have trouble with scheduling my classes to my liking.
To welcome the happy holidays, the Emojis retell the story of Elsa planning to throw Anna the perfect surprise party. While Anna is being led around, Kristoff and Olaf are preparing for the surprise, and Elsa ends up catching a cold. It's no ordinary cold for someone as icy and cool as Elsa. For every sneeze she makes, she produces a very cute
As a result from extreme hard work and perseverance followed by an unmatchable drive to succeed, Donald J. Trump has earned the right to be known as a multi-billionaire, real estate icon, and President of the United States of America. Reflecting on his life, he has faced many challenges and overcame them all. To understand how he rose to success and his journey to the top of the kingpin, it is important to recognize how he saw the american dream and pursued it. Today, many recognize him as the president but very few can fully grasp all that he has done in his life. From his start as a real estate mogul, to his impact on media, there are many questions as to how he became so recognizable today.
“The Snow Man”, by , is a written representation of how “one”, we humans, interpret reality different using our imagination and opinions. Reality is what you make of it, if you were to compress this poem into one sentence. As we are provided with two realities, the presence of winter and how the presence of winter is interpreted in our minds. It could be a harsh, bitter winter or tranquil and beautiful. The poem being one sentence, evokes constant thought even though there is a shift midway through. The physical appearance (reality) and mental interpretation (imagination) of winter are balanced to recognize the 2 types of listeners. The first, “would hear a "misery in the sound of the wind, the other listener would hear nothing more than the
1.Why do you think Snowman is able to have a name that holds a physical presence? Is it because he does not need to comply to the rules/laws of the Crakers/Crake?
Barros introduces her concept by displaying fragments of our imagination forming a centralized idea, represented by pixelated blocks, confusedly trying to find their fit. Then, a bold snowflake appears in the center (Barros). This snowflake illustrates the development of an ideal image for a person. The initial line of the poem states, “inside my head, snowflakes fall as silhouettes of angels grow knee deep” (Barros). Thoughts of model representations of how life should be played out, the
Naruto continued his raid through the snow poffs (ending unsuccessfully) until he reached the very last one, his hand penetrated through the delicate snow shell. 'Since when was snow this hard and...' He knocked on it. 'Metallic?!'
“The snow man” is a poem about two realities —the reality of winter , and the reality we create when we bring our own perspective.Stevens describes the snow man who can identify his own emotional baggage and and see that the world is not really nothing without the emotional baggage.According to David Perkins “ the poem posits two types of listener. One would hear a "misery in the sound of the wind." Through his own imaginative creativity he would project a human emotion into the scene and locate it there. Thus, he would make the landscape one with which human beings can feel sympathy. The other listener would hear nothing more than the sound of the wind. He would exert none of this spontaneous and almost inevitable creativity. The poem
Finally, personification of the snowman brings out the true meaning of the snowman being a person. “The man of snow” is used to show him truly being a person in the depths of life because snow is a metaphor of the struggles of life. A person represented by the personified snowman is sentimental to the boy. The man is foreshadowed as the boy later in life. Without personification, the implied metaphor wouldn’t be revealed.
Boom! A snowball just nailed you in the face. So, you get ready to fire back. Then, you stop and wonder what the snowball is made out of. Snowflakes are beautiful and elegant crystals that fill children's eyes with wonder. Snowflakes are magical, shining crystals, but people make fake snowflakes, have no idea how they're created, or the requirements for snow. So, people actually don't know much about snowflakes. Do you?
Thanks for your informative post on the public health issue of climate change. Gordis (2014) states that a fundamental role of public health is surveillance. As nurses we play a vital role in advocating for initiatives that reduces environmentally harmful practices to promote health and well-being (Canadian Nurse Association, 2017). The Canadian Nurses Association (2017) believes that, as changes in our climate continue worldwide, nurses have a role in working toward eliminating social inequities; by supporting environmental preservation and restoration.
Hello everyone! Today I will be speaking about global warming but before I begin, how many of you believe that global warming exists and that the human population is the primary cause of global warming? I ask this because there are people who believe that global warming does not exist or that it’s “a hoax created by China”. But that’s not true and global warming is in fact one of the biggest problems facing the world today.
