Smoking is considered a controversial argument among people. Supporters of smoking claim that it causes deadly health problems, while supporters believe that it is freedom. Although there are controversial argument concerning banning smoking, especially in public places, the fact remains that smoking is proved to cause different kinds of heart and lung diseases as well as being bad habit for children and adults. Latest researches have proved that smoking habit is increasing within young generations. This is considered an alarming threat for many countries as the youth are the cornerstone of any country and they are the basic source of success and progress. This issue of smoking in public places has become an argument for many people, organizations and governments. On the one hand, opponents of smoking claim that smoking in public places pollutes the air and causes health problems for people. Non-smokers are not saved from the harmful effets of smoking, as they become second hand smokers. On the other hand, proponents of smoking in public places, justifies their opinions claiming that smoking is a freedom for everyone and a personal decision. They claim that it is not the right for anyone, even governments and official authorities, to ban or prohibit smoking for any reasons. They think that banning smoking in a public place is considered a severe breach of people’s freedom. However, there are several solutions to this problem such as imposing fines or assigning places for smokers in the public places, or put strict limitations on the age and time of practicing smoking in public places. In conclusion, smoking is considered as a very bad habit and alarming problem that threatens people’s life. Smoking has bad effects not only on smokers but it is very harmful to non-smokers or second-hand smokers as well. Latest researches have proved that smokers compared to non-smokers, are more likely to suffer from heart diseases and lung cancers. Therefore, governments should issue regulations and laws that limit the consumption of cigarettes in public places such as imposing fines. On the other hand, advocates of smoking justifies their opinion of the importance of cigarettes in increasing relaxation and concentration for people, especially those who work for hours under pressure. Furthermore, smoking plays a significant role in economy as it helps to provide work opportunities, investments as well as achieving profits and earnings from taxes.
