Sky High (2005) directed by Mike Mitchell is both an entertaining and creative take on an epic hero film. The film follows the basic epic hero story structure with a hero and supervillain and centers around a young teenage boy, “Will Stronghold,” who lives in a generation of superheros and sidekicks. Will attempts to develop his powers, which is a huge deal for him because his dad has super strength and his mom can fly. He faces the challenge of choosing to be popular or remaining loyal to his true sidekicks. Along the way, as a result of his newfound popularity in the hero group, Will eventually realizes what a horrible companion he has been to his friends. Will falls for a girl in the hero group, Gwen Grayson, who turns out to be a supervillain. The epic …show more content…
hero journey includes special effects that give the characters superpowers, the use of supporting characters who eventually become heroes themselves, mood to elucidate feelings, and humor to hold the audience’s attention.
In the film, Will, the main character is a teenage boy who feels he should be a good superhero because his parents The Commander and Jetstream are the world's best superheros. Will’s parents want to become the Stronghold three the best superhero family, but his parents don't know that Will doesn't have powers yet. Will’s initial objective is to gain his powers and become a good superhero like his parents. The first day of high school is Will’s call to adventure. In order for this to happen, he must depart from the comfort of his home and go to a school he has never been to before with a bunch of other superheroes, sidekicks, and villains. While on his first day of high school, Will faces some trials and challenges. His first challenge was power placement, which is where the freshmans show Coach Boomer their superpower and depending on their power they will be placed either in the superhero group or the sidekick group. Since Will doesn't have his powers yet he was placed in the sidekick group, which is embarrassing because his parents are the world’s best super heros. After the power placement Will goes to nurse only to find out he might not ever get his
powers. Another challenge Will faces was having an enemy Warren Peace, The Commander imprisoned Warren Peace’s father, which instantly makes Will a target. Lash one of the older classman tripped Will in the cafeteria making his lunch drop onto Warren Peace which made him angry. Warren Peace begins to use his superpowers on Will, but during the fight Will gained his super strength and defeated Warren Peace. An additional challenge he faces was choosing his best friends over popularity and Gwen Grayson. When Will and Gwen began dating Will spent less time with his friends because Gwen convinced him to stay away from the sidekicks because they were “lower class”. Before the dance Gwen decided to throw a party at Will’s house, she tells him she wants to be alone with him, he breaks his promise and takes her to the secret sanctum where the pacifier device gets stolen. Later on Gwen tells Layla what Will “thinks” about her and when Will finds out he dumps Gwen right before the dance. Even though Will’s dad in the beginning of the film was disappointed when he found out that his son doesn't have superpowers, his mom comforted and was his assistance. She told him that even if he doesn’t have powers both parents would still love him the same. Later Will hits a bad point, he is in a crisis, where Gwen also known as Royal Pain turns the people at the dance into infants and she tries to destroy Sky High. Will and his sidekick friends have to work together to defeat Royal Pain and her friends. Royal Pain clicks a button on her suit and the school begins to fall out of the sky. Will uses both his super strength and his flying abilities to bring the school back into the sky. Will is able to return the school back to its original place in the sky. Will resolves the crisis by saving the school and to help turn back everyone back into their normals selves. He shows us that you do not need to be upper class to be as smart as someone in it. We like Will for his “I don’t care” attitude, and how he tells people in the upper class how it is. Will does some not-so-great things because of that attitude. Like when he told Professor Lambeau that the problems he was giving him were too easy, and they were problems Lambeau couldn’t even dream of solving. Will then proceeded to burn the problems because, well, he didn’t care. He wanted Lambeau to know that he was the smarter one in the relationship no matter their different classes. We like that Will did this because he stuck it to the upper class, and literally left the professor weeping over some math
For many years the American Hero has filled the silver screen and wide screened television sets, along with shelves of countless bookstores. Audiences love to see the protagonist overcome great odds, defeat the forces of evil, and save the beautiful girl at the last second. The character of the American Hero however, is not a new idea. James Cooper, in the 1800’s, created the archetype of the American Hero. Natty Bumpo, also called Deerslayer, embodied many qualities of the great American Hero. Modern day heroes are simply following the example set by Cooper’s creation.

heros who team together for the good of the universe and the money. The story
Good Will Hunting is the graceful tale of a young gentleman’s struggle to find out where he belongs in the world, by first finding out who he himself is. In this film, Matt Damon takes on the role of a disturbed genius that has a keen understanding of the deepness of human character. The film is a voyage through the mind of Will Hunting as he is required to undergo psychotherapy as an alternative to serving jail time. With the assistance of a psychologist, played by Robin Williams, Will learns about himself and recognizes his individual worth in the world by comprehending what is most important to him in his own life. This motion picture serves as a source of superb example for film technique. Gus Van Sant’s directing ability joined with the writing skills of Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, who also plays Will’s best buddy, Chuckie, is a vibrant mixture of technical features used to induce sentiment and compassion amongst the viewers of this heart-warming film. Characteristics of the color, angles, shots, camera movement, editing, and distortions are all each particularly noteworthy to the general composition of Van Sant’s Good Will Hunting.
The main character of this book is the Ranger’s Apprentice Will. Will is a determined,
To the world today, a hero is someone distinguished by exceptional courage, nobility, or strength; but really, anyone can be a hero. A hero can vary from someone as well-known as George Washington to someone as unheard of as anyone’s very own mother. Someone who has done a good deed for someone else is hero. The biggest heroes are the ones in well-known books and plays, such as Odysseus from The Odyssey, or have made a huge difference in the history of this world, like Mahatma Gandhi. Siddhartha Gautama is a hero, but not in the same way Odysseus or Gandhi are. Although these three influential people went through different journeys in order to accomplish different things, they are all heroes in their own way and have been through the same cycle of the road of trials and crisis/salvation.
Will Hunting epitomises a punk prodigy. The 20-year-old delinquent works as a janitor at MIT, solving impossible equations, meant for students, in his spare time. He is soon recruited by one of MIT’s professors and made to participate in a rehabilitation programme with the hope of being employed by the university. Rehabilitation is made challenging as Will is a troubled individual; having grown up in abusive environments and jumping from different foster homes.

When I think of a hero I immediately think of someone who is strong, intelligent, handsome, and daring. Upon closer examination, many different qualities than these become apparent. Courage, honesty, bravery, selflessness, and the will to try are just a few of the overlooked qualities of a hero. The definition of heroism changes with the context and time. Heroes of the past are not necessarily heroes of present time and vise versa.
The American Hero Every child has fantasy's of being a super hero and leaping tall buildings in a single bound or staring death in the face everyday and somehow finding a way to escape. All of these imaginative thoughts have been derived from the past literary works by the great writers of the early American literary period. These early writers entered society into a world of action and adventure, where one can see spectacular events unfolding through the eyes of a notorious man of courage and feel as though they are defending there country or saving the woman they love. Though the modern heroes are much more popular than classic American heroes, the modern hero has rooted from these same literary works which once amazed people in the days of old. Because of its popularity, the public pores into movie theaters to see movie-remakes of renown literary works.
