Will is a determined, strong-willed boy who will do anything to protect other people. A Ranger is basically a spy. During the book, Will realizes that Horace, the Warrior Apprentice, is not a bully but is just a person who wants to destroy the

I read the book Braving the Fire. It takes place in the year 1863. The book is about a 15 year old boy from Maryland named Jem Bridwell. He lives on a farm with his father, grandfather, and their slaves. Because Maryland was a “border state” during the civil war, it was not considered part of the Confederacy, although most of the people living in Maryland at the time were for the Confederates. Jem’s father, Tom Bridwell, on the other hand had joined the Union Army because he believed in freeing the slaves and keeping the Union. James Bridwell, Jem’s grandfather, was completely against Tom’s being in the Union Army and the Union itself.
Colin Powell once stated, “A dream doesn't become reality through magic; it takes sweat, determination and hard work.” Powell means that the only path available to achieve a goal, is the one where everyone brings their best characteristics to the table. This describes the characters in a quest story as they all bring their talents and best attributes to accomplish a common goal. Charles Portis’s True Grit is no exception as the three main characters resemble those of a quest story having characteristics that play a big part in achieving their goal. Mattie Ross resembles the quest hero persona, Rooster Cogburn as the wise old man, and Ranger LaBeouf as the hero’s helper and guide.
Midway through the book, Billy awakes to his friend Edgar Derby reading The Red Badge of Courage (Vonnegut 105). This is a book about a young teenager
My book is “Adaptation” by Malinda Lo. It is a science fiction about a high school girl named Reese and her debate team partner, David who live in San Francisco, have experienced a rare phenomenon in the sky that would change the world. When they wake up in a mysterious hospital in the middle of nowhere, the doctor would not tell them anything except telling them that they have received a special treatment, which cures Reese and David back to healthy really fast. Everything become strange when Reese returns home, she finds out that her house is bugged with listening devices, the government tries to hide the truth of the rare phenomenon, and she falls in love with a beautiful girl, Amber Gray. Reese and David would find out the conspiracy that the government tries to hide, but also cause them in trouble.
Heroes. Everyone wants to be a hero, but sometimes, people lose sight of what a true hero really is. It does not have to be someone who flies around and saves innocent people from perilous monsters. A hero is simply someone that inspires others. In Alexie’s The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, Junior was a hero because he rose above the expectations the world placed on him through his courage, passionate determination, and sympathetic perception.
The book I'm reading is Warriors: Rising Storm a book about wild cats that are in clans it tells of the many struggles the clan cats go through& the positive things they go through such as there being no prey in the forest for them to eat or many kits & warriors dying to diseases, or war etc. My book is by Erin Hunter. The setting of this book is in a large forest where there are four different territories. One for each of the four clans: ThunderClan, WindClan, ShadowClan and RiverClan.
A true hero is someone who stands up for an idea that has admirable intentions. In the book “Beowulf,” men were considered heroes based on the way they followed the warrior’s code. The warrior’s code included duty, honor, and chivalry. At the beginning of the book, Beowulf seems to have the characteristics of a warrior, but as the story develops Beowulf starts having a different perspective on what a true warrior is.
Walter introduces readers to his characters in such a way that it seems like a movie. He allows the characters personalities to grow as the novel progresses and they intersect with other characters. The main characters are Pasqual Tursi, Richard Burton, Debra “Dee” Moray, Alvis Bender, Michael Deane, Shane Wheeler, Claire Silver, and Pat Bender. These eight character’s stories provide the plot line to the book. Some stories are tragic and others hopeful, but all depend on one another at some point during the course of the novel. Walter shows how peoples lives can intersect...
Ender`s Game, by Orson Scott Card, follows Ender Wiggins and how he grows into a hero. Ender shows heroism throughout his endeavours in Battle School, he faces many trials to deserve the title of ‘Hero’. Ender`s descent into darkness, although in most stories is seem as a bad thing, is prefaced by his reasoning behind why he chooses to, he shows traits of a hero. Thirdly, his arsenal of weapons, along with how he uses them truly sets his heroic nature in stone. All heroes must display many traits and overcome perilous obstacles to deserve his reputation as a hero, Ender Wiggins displays all the requirements to be a great hero.
In December 1941, the Japanese attacked the United States (US) in Pearl Harbor and invaded the Philippines. Foreseeing this invasion, the US pulled Gen. MacArthur out of retirement and sent him to the Philippines. His mission was to prepare this strategically located archipelago against Japanese invasion.
For my book I chose to read The Body by Stephen King. This novel is about four young boys taking a journey to find a body somewhere in the woods that is at the county line. This story is about more than just four boys going on an adventure its about them becoming closer to each other and learning real life lessons along the way. The four boys are all going into their first year of middle school so this is a time in their life when they learn things that will help them in life.
Stephen Crane's Red Badge of Courage as Bildungsroman. In the Red Badge of Courage, by Stephen Crane, the main character Henry Fleming joins the army as a young fledging and ultimately matures to a courageous soldier ready for battle. The Red Badge of Courage is considered a Bildungsroman since the reader traces Henry’s development morally, psychologically, and intellectually. Henry progresses from a feared youth who, in the course of a couple of days, in the line of fire, has crossed the threshold to manhood.
There are two major characters in this book. The first is a man named Kino. He
These heroes are not the equivalents to the Lone Ranger or Superman; they might even flee instead of fight a dangerous situation. However, when they do fight, they fight with flesh and bone. They fight with emotions and tears. They fight with anger and fears. They fight with confusion. They fight for their country. They fight to avoid the shame and embarrassment. They fight because of obligations to the family, to the country, and to themselves. The heroes that come to mind through these descriptions are the ones fighting in uniforms. They are fighting in lands unknown. They are captured and tortured. They are young and naïve but they are obligated to perform their patriotic duties. They are the soldiers of my country, your country, and our country. They are the protagonists and characters of The Things They Carried, The Sorrow of War, and Crossing ...
