Skin is a natural protective barrier and function as body immunity first line of defence. It helps keeping out from microorganism that come from external environment, regulating temperature and fluid, also in some extent, it protects against sunlight. Skin consists of three layers, which are epidermis, dermis and subcutaneous layer. Dermis layer is the innermost layer, containing lots of connective tissues, blood vessels and nerve endings. The substituent of connective tissue including elastin and collagen fibres, which is important to make the skin looks youthful. Epidermis layer consists of two main parts, stratum germinativum and stratum corneum. Stratum corneum is the point of interest for cosmetic application because it is the outermost layer and directly in contact with external environment.
There are many skin diseases manifest by different people. Skin condition may ranging from simple dryness to severe erythema and scaling ( Aburjai & Natsheh, 2003 ). To overcome the bad skin conditions, a lot of cosmetic formulations are marketed with a lot of promising claims. The main function of cosmetic formulation should be to protect the skin from harmful exogenous and endogenous agents. Natural cosmetic formulation containing coconut oils may have many benefits to the skin. Gupta et al (2010) mentioned the benefits of coconut oils such as natural antioxidant, which protect the tissue from free radical damage, help against infection by having antimicrobial properties, soften and moisturize the skin and prevent wrinkling, sagging and age spots.

Nevertheless, the goal of anti oxidants is to minimize free radicals damage because uncontrolled free radicals reactions can cause damage to cells structures and functions and Vitamin E posses the ability.
Vitamin E protect the body from free radicals such as enzyme superoxide dismutase, catalase and glutathione peroxidase. It plays a critical role in the membranes, protecting polyunsaturated fatty acids in cell membranes through its free radicals quenching activity in biomembranes at an early stage of free radical attack. Although vitamin E has low molar concentration in the membranes, but it effectively serves as the major lipid soluble, chain breaking antioxidant. That makes it as the first line of defence of lipid peroxidation. ions
The second layer of the skin is called the dermis and is also known as the middle layer. The dermis is what holds the body together. The dermis has layers to it as well as the epidermis. There are two layers to the dermis, the papillary layer and the reticular layer. The cells of the dermis are fibroblast, macrophages, mast cells, and scattered white blood cells (wbc’s). the dermis is richly supplied with nerve fibers and BV;s. dermal BV’s is also a part of the integumentary system, dermal BV,s have converging and diverging vessels that ar...
For my summer assignment, I read the book Skinwalkers by Tony Hillerman. Skinwalkers is about a Navajo police officer named Jim Chee. The story takes place on the Navajo Reservation spanning several states (Arizona, Utah, Colorado, and New Mexico). Throughout the book, Chee works with Lieutenant Joe Leaphorn to solve three seemingly connected homicides. Over the course of the story, the Officers find several strange bits of evidence, such as small bones and strange stories about things happening around the reservation. As the case progresses, Chee and Leaphorn discover that the motive may be much deeper than just hate, it may have to do with witchcraft. As the story concludes, Leaphorn realizes that Chee has been led into a trap and rushes
The integumentary system is composed of the skin and the structures related to the skin, which include the hair, the finger nails, the sensory receptors and the glands (Shier, Butler, & Lewis, 2009). This system has an important function since it provides protection to the body, helps to maintain body temperature, and contains sensory receptors (p.117). The skin has essential function such as regulating homeostasis and body temperature, also delaying the loss of water from deeper tissues, storing sensory receptor, synthesizing biomechanical, and discharging waste from the body (p.117). The skin has two layers: the epidermis (outer layer) and the dermis (inner layer) (p.117). There is also a subcutaneous layer or hypodermis (p.117). According to Shier, Butler, and Lewis 2009 “as its name indicates, this layer is beneath the skin and not a true layer of the skin” (p.117). This layer has the blood vessels that supply the skin (p.117).
The epidermis and dermis are tissue layers that make up the skin (integument) covering the body. The layers (strata) of the epidermis range from four to five, depending on where they are on the body; and are classified into two types of skin: thin skin and thick skin. Most of the body is covered in thin skin, which has four layers. Areas of the body that are heavily exposed to stress and pressure (palm of hand and sole of feet) are covered in five layered thick skin. Thin skin has the following
Our skin functions as a daily defense for our bodies against disease because of skin and mucous membranes. The skin is a massive organ and it protects everything inside our bodies such as our muscles, bones and organs. Our skin protects us from bacteria, parasites, viruses and pathogens ...
After the skin, there is a layer called the dermis. The dermis is a broad layer of fibrous and elastic tissue (made mostly of fibrillin, elastin, and collagen) which gives the skin its flexibility and strength. The dermis incorporates nerve endings, sweat glands and oil glands, hair follicles, and blood
The skin is the largest organ in the body, covering the bones and internal organs, protecting them from injuries, it serves as a barrier to germs, and bacteria and helps to prevent fluid loss. The skin helps to control the body’s temperature and also aids in removing certain body wastes, therefore making it a vital organ just as any other organ such as the heart or brain.
What would you give to rid yourself of acne? What would you do? The bane of every adolescent’s existence, these red spots develop to some degree in 85% of the population between ages 12 and 25 (Lamberg). Teenagers wake up every morning, look at the mirror, and sigh at the acne on their faces and often other places on their bodies. They dread these awful things that are absolutely ugly. They get desperate and eventually, if the acne grows worse than ever before, they resort to Accutane. Accutane, also known as isotretinoin, is a medication for acne. However, despite isotretinoin’s helpfulness in controlling acne that is unresponsive to other treatments, this medication should not be used because of its harmful physical side effects, its association with psychiatric adverse effects, and its effects on reproduction.
Did you know that by far skin cancer is the most common cancers in the United States that at least 20 people die each day from this disease? Today, skin cancer is the most widespread form of cancer, accounting for about 50% of all cancer cases reported annually, according to the American Cancer Society (ACS, 2010). Like the others common cancers, skin cancer it can occurs in both younger and older people. Nowadays we all enjoy being outdoors or exposed to the sun or even being in tanning beds, not knowing how hazardous sunburns and tanning is to our health causing serious damages to the skin, called Skin Cancer, if we do not protect daily our skin properly. Skin Cancer, is a disease that can happen to anyone and anywhere in our body that can easily be prevented if detected early by knowing what are the causes leading to it, symptoms or any signs, and lastly learn ways to reduce the risk of getting skin cancer.
To begin we will look at the integumentary system and its entire multitude of functions. The main components of the integumentary system are the skin, hair, nails, glands and nerves. For the purpose of this paper we will focus mainly on the levels of the skin and their functions. While the integumentary
The documentary film, Second skin, carries out the examination of different components of the MMORPG’s (Massively Multi-player Role-Playing Games) great coverage, the cultural context that revolves around them and consults with relevant professionals on the issue. Despite the fact that the film tends to veer into several paths, it places greater concentration on 3 stories. The first story is centered on a group of friends in Indiana, whose game dedication is World of Warcraft, the other illuminates a growing romantic relationship between 2 individuals who play Ever Quest 2; and the third is about a player who loses everything due to his gaming addiction.
Are tattoos a kiss of death at a workplace? According to Student Research Center, nearly 4 out of every 10 Americans in their 30s have been inked. ''In April 2000 15% of Americans were tattooed (which is roughly around 40 million people) (The National Geographic).'There are different types of tattoos, from color to black and white, even glow in the dark. Number of tattoo paralos in the U.S. is 21,000'' (Tattoo Statistics 1) and more is being added every single day. People spend about $1.6 billion on tattoos once a year. ''In the U.S. more women than men are tattooed, 36% of the ages is between 18-25 and 40% of those ages are 26-40 that have at least one tattoo.''(Random facts 1) People have been getting tattoos for a while now. It has been said that ''tattoos date back as far as the Neolithic era or around the fourth to fifth millennium BC.''(skinsight.com 1) Tattoos should be acceptable at a place of business because people get tattoos for significant purposes, tattoos can tell stories and build confidence, body art is a way for someone to express themselves, make up, and tattoos are reminders of life time experiences.
Teens are more likely to jump from one acne treatment to another to an effective acne remedy. Teens who are upset about the state of their skin mostly use the topical treatments in excess in an attempt to speed the clearing of their skin. it is important for the teens to understand that any acne treatment, including the over the counter products need to be used as directed on the label. Applying them too often or in excess could cause dryness, redness, peeling, irritation and can worsen the situation, hence increasing the healing time of the acne.
Vitamin E is the general classification for a group of eight fat-soluble compounds of tocopherols and tocotrienols. Vitamin E functions primarily as an antioxidant, but also has other roles in the body [1].
Many young adults do not take good care of their skin. As a result, the skin is likely to age prematurely. In most
