Skin Cancer
Skin cancer is a worldwide disease that kills thousands of people a year. The rising amount of people who are being reported with skin cancer is a dramatic change. Families every year have to deal with that fact that they may lose someone important in their life due to this disease. Whether it’s grandparents or even just a friend, it affects people everyday. Skin cancer is an issue that almost everyone has faced in their lifetime and is growing every year, ever since man has learned about tanning this outbreak can not be stopped.
Symptoms of skin cancer can be one of the easier diseases to spot in early stages if one pays closer attention. In early process of skin cancer a mole or any other skin growth will begin to change

is size, color, shape, and even the texture of the skin. If one has a open or inflamed wound it is possible that it will not heal properly. This could be a sign of skin cancer developing. One type of skin cancer in particular that one should look for is Melanoma. It is the easiest one to detect but is the deadliest. Any change in an existing mole could show a problem. A small, dark, multicolored spot with irregular borders is a symptom. Along with irregular spots one could have a big cluster of moles with a metallic look to it. A mole should not be any bigger than a pencil eraser (“Melanoma/Skin Cancer Health”). Changes in the size of moles and any other mark is the number one sign of Melanoma. Another common cancer one should look for is Squamous Cell Carcinoma or SCC. This will show firm, reddish, wart-like bumps. Something similar to these bumps is a flat spot that becomes a bleeding sore. There are multiple key symptoms to look for when a person is suffering for Basal Cell Carcinoma also known as BCC. One of the symptoms will be a pearly flesh colored oval shape bump. It will have a smooth spot indented in the center. Any odd color such as red, brown, or a blue like color on the back or chest (“Melanoma/Skin Cancer Health”). There are several less common skin cancers one should also look for. Kaposi Sarcoma will have red or purple patches on the skin. Merkel Cell will have shiny noodles under skin around the head and neck. Sebaceous Gland will have hard noodles around the eye. However, skinSkin cancer is a disease that can happen anywhere on the body. Whenever skin Anywhere a skin is exposed one should look for spots. On woman, it is more common on the legs. One can get it under the fingernails as well. For men it is more common from shoulders up (“Skin Cancer”). Skin cancer is one disease that everyone should look for. The way How doctors diagnose can differ on how serious the cancer is. Doctors diagnose by doing many exams and biopsies on the location of where the skin cancer might be located. They may do a physical exam. A skin biopsy will be taken and will use samples of the diagnosed patient. Lymph Node Biopsy is another common biopsy. After the biopsies are done they could do a Positron Emission Tomography scan, Computed Tomography scan, or a Magnetic Resonance Image. Sentinel Lymph Node biopsy is a very common diagnoses but can do damage to the tissue. There is a surgery that takes out lymph nodes in the tissue. Doctors do the surgery to try and prevent the cancer from spreading. They try to avoid removing a lot of the lymph nodes which could cause scarring (“Melanoma/Skin Cancer Health”). If this prosiger isn’t done the cancer could spread. Positron Emission Tomography is also known as PET,. This is a radioactive chemical scan. A tracer will be put into one’s bloodstream, then it. It is used to evaluate the cancer. Computed Tomography or CT is a X-ray that examines the entire body. Magnetic Resonance Imaging is one of the more popular things done that people know about. It is a machine that uses magnetic fields and wave energy. This scientific machine is used to pinpoint the exact location of the cancer growth(“Melanoma/Skin Cancer Health”). How doctors determine what type of cancer it is, is very important. They will first check one’s skin color. Change in the color of skin is a very important sign of cancer. If the patient has a heritage of family members with skin cancer, the doctors could maybe determine if it’s the same one. After they do tests on the patient with the PET, CT, or MRI, they will rank how serious the cancer is. For skin cancer being diagnosed with one is treatable. Being diagnosed with four, one will have a very small chance to live(“Skin Cancer”). Being diagnosed with skin cancer such as Melanoma is something no one wants to think of getting. The treatment to skin cancer is much similar to how other cancers are treated.
Skin cancer has four main types of treatments. One treatment that is done is actual surgery on the affected area. Surgeons will cut out the skin and tissue that is being affected by the disease. The most well known treatment for cancer is chemotherapy. Along with chemotherapy doctors will also treat patients with immunotherapy and targeted therapy. Chemotherapy is a treatment that almost every patient diagnosed with skin cancer has to go through, this is used to destroy the cancer cells. It can be received in four different ways, pills, cream, injection, and catheters are all ways a patient could receive this treatment (“Melanoma/Skin Cancer Health”). Immunotherapy is more well known as Biotherapy. Unlike like chemotherapy, which is a deadly chemical that is used to kill cells, biotherapy is natural protein. It uses Cytokines which is made in the immune system. The vaccines that are used are HPV, BCG and Provenge(“Melanoma/Skin Cancer Health”). Targeted treatment is used when a patient is going to die no matter what. It’s used to attack specific areas. The treatment stops the cancer cells and the signals they produce. They use Selective Estrogen Receptor Modulators or SERMS(“Skin Cancer”). Treatment of skin cancer could be the life and death of the patient that is …show more content…
diagnosed. When a patient is diagnosed with skin cancer it is often very scary because recovery depends on the number of factors.
When people get diagnosed with skin cancer they always think of the worst outcome. Now this may be true when it comes to Melanoma. Someone who is diagnosed with Melanoma is told they have “two years”(Perry). If one is not diagnosed with cancer that outcome will most likely be a scary past and hopefully a bright future. Doctors will say to stop tanning, or the skin cancer may make its way back. Also to wear sunscreen outside. People always think skin cancer will automatically kill. That may be only true with Melanoma. But it will still take a couple years to do so. But besides Melanoma people just need to relax and finish treatment and become healthy
again. The background of skin cancer is quite interesting. There are three main types of skin cancer. Melanoma is the most well known and the deadliest skin cancer. Another type of skin cancer is Squamous Cell Carcinoma which can be treated. Another type of skin cancer that is treatable is Basal Cell Carcinoma. These skin cancers are more popular in the United States than any other country. In 2006, “3.5 million people were diagnosed with skin cancer” (Serrano). All other cancers combined had a little over 1 million reports. In 2014, “76,000 people were diagnosed with Melanoma, out of those 76,000, 9,710 of them would die” (Hall). Skin cancer itself can be caused by several different things. Ultraviolet Rays or UV rays are a big skin cancer causer. It will show if someone doesn’t tan at all or they burn easily. The worst problem in America, which causes the most skin cancer cases, is tanning beds. Which also use UV rays. Skin cancer has been around since the beginning of man. Even though skin cancer has been around for hundreds of years, “it wasn’t until 1804 when it was first diagnosed” (Kirkey). It was discovered by a french physician named Rene’ Laennec. Although it was first diagnosed in 1804, “it wasn’t until 1806 that it went public”(Kirkey). It can be interesting to think that the type of hair or skin color can raise the chance of getting skin cancer. White males are more likely to get it than any other race. Men with light hair such as blond are also more likely to get it. With eye color it is more common in blue, green, and grey eyes. Men over the age of 50 have a higher chance of getting Melanoma. “Over 50% of men over 60 have had skin cancer” (“Melanoma/Skin Cancer Health). Of the 50%, only 3% of the are cases of Melanoma. Melanoma is the least common disease but has “the highest killing rate of 75% of its victims” (“Melanoma/Skin Cancer Health”). Doctors use a method called TNM that is used to determine how serious the skin cancer is. The background of skin cancer is very interesting. Skin cancer is a topic that no one wants to think about. Whether it’s Melanoma or a type of cell. Skin cancer has killed people for hundreds of years. It doesn’t seem that it will ever give up. People who tan a lot will always end up with it. Symptoms, diagnosis, treatments, prognosis, and background are all original for this topic. People should understand this disease will never die. It will last until the sun no longer exists.
Melanoma is an extremely important issue, as 75% of skin cancer deaths in Australia are attributed to melanoma, making it the most dangerous form of skin cancer in the country (AIHW 2010). The AIHW also states that Australia has the highest occurrence of melanoma in the world, with over 12,500 Australians being diagnosed annually, and having a recorded 1500 deaths each year. The Melanoma Institute of Australia states that melanoma is the “most common cancer in young Australians aged 15-39”, and that “rates have doubled in the 20 years from 1986-2006”. The incidence of melanoma is increasing more rapidly than any other major cancer. Owing to the high incidence and mortality rates of the disease in Australia, melanoma is the most life-threatening form of skin cancer in the country, making it a very serious non-communicable disease.
What is skin cancer ? first, Skin is the largest organ of the body . it gives our body protection from harms, injuries and infections. It also organize the body temperature and dispose of waste substances through the glands . out layer of the skin is called the epidermis and the layer underneath is known as the dermis . Skin cancer is type of disease where malignant cancer cells are to be found the outer layer of a person's skin and is the uncontrolled development of the irregular skin cells .It occurs when unrepaired DNA damage to skin cells caused by ultraviolet radiation from sunlight or genetic defects, that lead the skin cells to duplicate rapidly and form malignant tumors. there are three main types of skin cancer which are basal

In melanoma some common signs and symptoms are the doctor may notice an abnormal area in the skin that may look unusual. A mole, sore, lump, or growth on the skin can be a sign of melanoma. A sore or growth that bleeds, or changes in skin coloring may also be a sign of skin cancer. Your doctor may run several test to detect if melanoma is...
A regular skin exam (every 6-8 weeks) will help in the melanoma dectection process. Look for irregular skin growths and have the growth examined by a health care provider if the growth promotes cause for alarm.
Cancer is a disease in which cells multiply out of control and gradually build a mass of tissue called a tumor. There has been a large amount of research dedicated to the treatment and cure of cancer. Several types of treatments have been developed. The following are just some of the major examples of cancer therapy: surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, biologic therapy, biorhythms, unconventional treatments, and hyperthermia. Each type of treatment is discussed in detail below.
Well-known magazines often have broad headlines that show off celebrities sporting bronzed skin, and these articles often throw around the words “healthy” and “glowy” in a positive context. With this influence subjected upon the general public, indoor tanning has become a popular recreation of American men and women alike. As this new trend continues to rise, medical researchers are beginning to pay close attention to the health effects of indoor tanning, especially when referring to tanning beds, respectively. Through many recent case findings and studies, scientists have linked the use of tanning beds to many dermal health problems including types of skin cancers that are deadly. Despite the fact that tanning beds are detrimental to the dermal health of its victims, the use of tanning beds is on the rise and growing.
In today’s culture, being tan coincides with what is believed to be beautiful. As a result, it is no surprise that in the United States of America, an estimated 922,000 people are currently living with some level of melanoma. Even though the news media and doctors warn people about the risks of too much sun exposure and give information as to how to prevent contracting skin cancer, people are still disregarding this important information and going into the sun for extended periods of time unprotected.
The first sign of melanoma is often a change in the size, shape, or color of an existing mole or the appearance of a new mole. Men most commonly develop melanoma on the trunk, particularly the back, and women on the legs or arms. Melanoma develops in a manner similar to other cancer types. A cell's DNA genes, which control cell division and reproduction, become damaged. The damaged genes cause the cell to divide and grow without control or order, eventually becoming a malignant tumor.
Informing you on a everyday thing some girls do, which is tanning. Two main questions you have to ask yourself is it healthy? And will it cause skin cancer ? Well to answer both of those questions you can get skin cancer, and it is healthy for you. Only some parts of it is healthy though, not all of it. And thats what we will be explaining in this paper today. We both do tan so we’re not against it and see the good thing about tanning. Not everyone has to be on our side, some people may like tanning naturally better to begin with.
The patient will also have to undergo surgery to remove the cancer, and the individual will undergo cancer treatment. Melanoma can spread to other parts of the body that are sometimes internal and not visible to the eye. Sometimes a person needs to let their worries fade away for a little bit, and these tanning methods can do that for some people. Tanning helps cope with stress and depression as stated in the text “tanning has been known to improve seasonal affective disorder” which is a type of depression that a person goes through around the same time every year (Banerjee).
Skin cancer is a disease in which malignant cancer cells are found in the outer layer of the human skin. This particular cancer is one of the most common cancers among the U.S. population, affecting and spreading over more than one million people a year. “Skin cancer is categorized into two separate groups being; malignant melanomas and non-melanoma cancers.” (Adam, 2013)
Indoor tanning is becoming a very popular “hobby”, but most people do not know, or do not care, about its dangerous side effects. Studies show that people who use tanning booths have a much higher chance of being diagnosed with skin cancer. If someone were to start tanning indoors before they turn 30 or 25, the risk of them getting Melanoma peaks, and if they start tanning before they turn 20 or 25, they are much more likely to get basal and squamous cancer.
Most parents remembered hearing about the importance of protecting their children from the sun, yet children are still playing in the sun without sunscreen or protective clothing. Many people these days are not taking skin cancer seriously after knowing its significance. Skin cancer has been a growing problem in the United States and millions of people have suffered from it every year. The three most common skin cancers are Melanoma, Basal cell, and Squamous cell, which can cause bumps, sores, growths, etc. Skin cancer is a deadly disease with many causes, but the advantage is that it can be prevented.
The high incidence of skin cancer in Australia is the reason for our choice of
