Skateboarding Is Not A Crime
Each year hundreds of thousands of skateboarders get arrested each year for just skateboarding and about 5/6 of them didn’t commit a hurtful crime. Every day, at least one skateboarder gets arrested. Skateboarders don’t just get arrested but also get tickets, and there are a lot more tickets than there are arrests. If skateboarding was looked upon as a sport this many arrests and tickets would not occur. A group of teenagers could go out, get drunk then go rob stores and beat up people for no reason but a group of skateboarders are considered criminals. No skateboarding signs are posted all over the place for no reason. Skateboarders are considered criminals just for the culture that skateboarding brings. If a …show more content…

There are never any no football or no baseball signs and this skateboarder states, “No skateboarding. These signs are posted throughout most cities. But does one ever see a no football sign or a no baseball sign? No.” Skateboarding is not considered a sport in these places but someone can play football or baseball in these areas. The reasons for these signs are that so bystanders don’t get hurt but can a skateboard really hurt someone more than a hard ball moving 5 times faster than a skateboard. A baseball or a football has a better chance of hitting someone then a skateboard because people on skateboards can grab their board before it hits someone but the wind can change the movement of a ball and hit a window breaking it or hit someone in the head knocking them out. People put the label “thug” on skateboarders, but do skaters really gang bang? No they don’t, they just wear baggy clothes and ride around with a skateboard so that brings the wrong perspective to someone. People also put the moto “skateboarders are stoners and have no job” but that is not the case as skateboarders have many other talents like painting and a skateboarder claimed, “Toy Machine decks are painted by Ed as a way to show his artistic ability. He said that he got into painting because he liked it even though he said his first paintings were crapy. He said it was better than getting into drugs and that he really doesn’t drink.” All skateboarders are not lazy stoners that don’t have a job, they also have other useful talents. People also find skateboarders looking like a group of kids that they should stay away from. Another skateboarder that believes skateboarding is not a crime states, “What is it about a skateboarder that people find so threatening? Is it because we hang out in big groups wherever we go, and the threat we give because of they way we look or the size of the group we have. People paint a stereotype for a skateboarder to be a destructive outlaw, whose intention is to run around causing trouble and threatening old people walking down the street.” Just because we hang out in big groups and look intimidating it does not been we are 5 star criminals that murder people
