Skateboarding is one of the hardest hobbies to learn and master. Many people see skating as destruction of property and inappropriate behavior. I'm not going to lie, Skateboarding is a destruction of property, but from our point of view skating brings us together.”There are certain people that don't understand the art and what we are really doing at these places” (Rodriguez). All skaters have a unspoken connection. No matter what you skate, no matter how you skate, no matter your race, gender, or religion. “I don't think it matters where you come from; I don't think it matters what your background is ,ethnicity or any of that. Once you get hooked on skateboarding it's hard to not become passionate about it” (Rodriguez). Skaters understand
It’s a Sunday afternoon and the whole family is over at grandmother’s house playing a fun game of pickup baseball until they realize they do not know how to hit a baseball. Luckily it is a rather simple process that can easily be taught and learned.
By universal definition, "sport" is listed as "an activity involving physical exertion and skill that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often undertaken competitively." Football, basketball, baseball, soccer and other primary activities have always been concretely defined as sports in society. However, one of the most physically demanding activities is constantly forgotten when it comes to the realm of sports- dance. Dance requires a tremendous amount of training and creates an aura of competition in which people compete to be the best, win, and take home the trophy- just like in traditionally accepted sports. These sports, however, do not possess an element of psychological health threats that some competitive dancers unfortunately must account for due to the emphasis placed on physical appearance.
Have you ever felt stuck? Wherever you are, it’s the absolute last place you want to be. In the book Into the Wild, Chris McCandless feels stuck just like the average everyday person may feel. Chris finds his escape plan to the situation and feels he will free himself by going off to the wild. I agree with the author that Chris McCandless wasn’t a crazy person, a sociopath, or an outcast because he got along with many people very well, but he did seem somewhat incompetent, even though he survived for quite some time.
The Turn of the Screw by Henry James has been the cause of many debates about whether or not the ghosts are real, or if this is a case of a woman with psychological disturbances causing her to fabricate the ghosts. The story is told in the first person narrative by the governess and is told only through her thoughts and perceptions, which makes it difficult to be certain that anything she says or sees is reliable. It starts out to be a simple ghost story, but as the story unfolds it becomes obvious that the governess has jumps to conclusions and makes wild assumptions without proof and that the supposed ghosts are products of her mental instability which was brought on by her love of her employer
Disney promotes sexisim by forcing young girls to live in a patriarchal world. Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, The little mermaid, Aladdin, and Snow White are all examples of popular Disney movies that encourage young viewers that they need a man to save the day. Yes, it’s true that there are recent movies such as Moana and Frozen that prove otherwise, but how long will it take to completely get over the fact that women are mainly viewed as secondary citizens compared to the men? There are countless examples of how Disney movies influence this theme, and how much the female characters’ actions, ideas and thoughts are not included in a Disney movie.
For many individuals, skateboarding is an exciting and fun activity to participate in. Both children and adults have incorporated the sport into their lives recreationally or as a serious lifetime occupation. There are many reasons to why skateboarding can be a positive and rewarding experience for just about anyone. However, there are many individuals that find the sport to be dangerous and argue for its ban with flimsy opinions. The city should not pass a ban against skateboarders on all public property as there is no concrete argument on why their activities are harmful to such an extent; banning the sport would not only result in outrage from the abridgement of civil liberties and be an injustice to the diversity of our country, but force
The epic poem, Beowulf, a work of fiction, offers more insight into Ancient Anglo-Saxon English culture than the work of Bede, who wrote, A History of the English Church and People. The epic poem Beowulf gives an enhanced illustration and clearer understanding of the culture of the Ancient Anglo-Saxon’s. The epic poem gives the audience a picture of what the Ancient Anglo-Saxon English valued; seafaring, warriors, heroes, and paganism.
Chauffeur companies are an appealing and are becoming of interest for busy families. As stated by Shuddle CEO Nick Allen, “During the back-to-school season we are seeing lots of interest and demand is building.” Using chauffeur companies is becoming exceedingly popular when kids’ and parents’ schedules don’t line up. Using Shuddle is a safe and secure option for the reason that Shuddle uses mostly female drivers who are moms, teachers, nannies, and other caregivers. Also stated by HopSkipDrive co-founder and CEO Joanna McFarland, “We call our drivers ‘caredrivers’ because they are caregivers first and drivers second.” HopSkipDrive is a going to be a good option because most chauffeur companies don’t cater to children due to the age. “Skateboarding is for the socially awkward,” I thought to myself dreading going into this project. However, after spending several hours with skateboarders Mike Thacker, Cassious Brownlee, Lance Love, Jarrell Harrison and Sean Hough, I quickly learned that my assumptions, along with most others’ were misleading. Skateboarding is a very respectable, intricate sport that involves passion, heart, determination and perseverance. Skateboarders are risk-takers in the most literal sense of the word. They are dedicated individuals that spend countless days, months, and even years perfecting their craft. Throughout the duration of my adventurous field study, I became more observant about the patterns and distinctions within the social hierarchy of skateboarding.
Can you believe that even YOU can be arrested for throwing a snowball? “While Chicago is infamously unsympathetic to those who wish to exercise their Second Amendment rights, it appears Windy City authorities are similarly very sensitive to “weapons” of all types – even those made of snow.” On february 24, 2014 an 8th grade student in Chicago, IL was charged with a felony for throwing a snowball at a peace officer. The 8th grader should have not been charged with a felony because it is not a weapon, also the snowball hit the car.
How skaters are looked upon by other people: they are looked at as bad kids, people that vandalize property, saying they do drugs, saying that they still act like a kid, telling them they need to dress better, they don 't wear there pants right, there shirts are too baggy, there shoes are in really bad shape, always looking for trouble, always getting arrested, going to jail, they wont get anywhere in life, don 't have respect for other people, they wont be able to grow up when the time is needed,
To be an American is to be hopeful, grateful and able to pursue one’s own dreams and achieve happiness with hard work and determination without being persecuted. It is to be an individual governed by natural rights stated in the Bill of Rights. Holden the troubled boy in J.D. Salinger’s Catcher in the Rye does not embody those American ideals. He is troubled by uncertainty about the world at seventeen years of age and is bleak, and innocent about people, things, around him. Holden is not an American at heart because he doesn’t put in effort and determination nor is he hopeful or grateful.
Video games. They provide an escape from reality to explore worlds and realms beyond our own. However there is a lot of controversy surrounding wether or not video games are good for you, many people are under the impression that video games turn kids and adults alike into mindless zombies hellbent on violence but in this essay I aim to convince you that not only is this untrue but that video games are actually beneficial. I’d also like to mention that too much of anything is bad for your health, for example extremely high quantities of broccoli can be toxic.
Martial arts has been around for thousands of years, standing the test of time, it has proven itself to be beneficial in many varying ways. Being neither mindless violence nor an anger driven sport, the art of fighting has taught children and adults valuable skill sets that will carry on through the lives of those who practice it. Mistakenly, people see fighting as purely entertainment, but it allows one to achieve a greater understanding of themselves and builds a large amount of confidence in ones life. Children who practice this art form receive a strong base of who they are and how to manage themselves. Martial arts aids in the development of children through physical, mental, and emotional discipline.
One day I was skateboarding down the ramp. The gripping was peeling off and my front wheels hit it and almost broke one of my arms. The skate park is falling apart and this community needs to do something about it. Axpessually before someone gets hurt really bad. This community could have a lot safer and a lot more fun skate park. This skate park is to dangerous for a lot of people because of the gripping. Updating the park would take all that away and make it a lot safer. It would also encourage kids to get up off their couches and ride
