Robert E. Lee once said, “ What a cruel thing war is… to fill our hearts with hatred instead of love for our neighbors.” Many could compare the Montagues and Capulets from the tragic love story of Romeo and Juliet to the most violent rivals, the Bloods and Crips. In the short story, Romeo and Juliet by Shakespeare family fueds are well intepred in the tragic love story to the rivals between the Bloods and Crips. The family feud between the Montagues and Capulets have been a long lasting war ig the families. This can be shown in the short story,Romeo and Juliet, in the prologue lines 1-4, “...a long stranded hatred between the families erupts into new violence and stain citizens with the blood of the fellow citizens.” The feud between the …show more content…

The two gangs consider their members as family so you could say they have family feuds just like the Montagues and Capulets. The similarities between the two are in Act 1 scene 1 lines 59-61, “Pull out your swords, if you're men. Gregory you remember how to slash…” The Montagues and Capulets are always fighting in the streets of Verona as compared to the Bloods and Crips they also have constant conflicts. The Bloods and Crips have had a long lasting rivalry according to https://en.wikipedia.com/Crips, “ The rivalry dates back to the 1960s when Raymond Washington and several others confronted Slyvester Scott and Benson Owens.” The rivalry grew accounting for majority of the gang related murder a in Southern Los Angelos. The violence is between the gang were always the gangs getting revenge for the murder of their gang member and/or family member. This can be compared to Act 3 scene 1 lines 126-131, “... you're going to heaven with him. This fight will decide who dies.” This is the scene in Romeo and Juliet when Romeo killed Tybalt for killing Mercutio. The Montagues and Capulets became very muderous losing losing many family members on both sides just as the Bloods and Crips.

All in all, the Montagues and Capulets in the short story Romeo and Juliet and the Bloods and Crips are examples of dangerous and deadly rivalries showing the comparisons between the two. Even though the rivalry between the Montagues and Capulets is unknown in the shorty story they still had a long lasting family feud.
