The history of the Canadians and the Aztecs are really indistinguishable. Both of them were the original inhabitants of their own land. The movement of these two groups of people has assisted in shaping and refining the world as we know it today. When it comes down to comparing and contrasting Native American and Spanish civilization, there is actually a variety of things that make each one stand out from one another. When looking into both the Natives and the Spanish there was more to be found different then there was to be similar in any way. Both societies struggled, but one did have more of an advantage which is why there was such conflict between the two.
The Cherokees and the Aztecs were very different people in many ways not only in location but also in ways of living. The Cherokees were southwestern woodland farmers. The Aztecs were also farmers in mesoamerica like the Mayans.
The Aztec Empire was the most powerful Mesoamerican kingdom of all time. They dominated the valley of Mexico in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. The Aztecs were an advanced and successful civilization that built beautiful, sophisticated cities, temples, and pyramids. They also created a culture full of creativity with mythological and religious traditions. Aztecs lead a structured and evocative life that let their society to become a very superior civilization. To start off, I’ll be writing about the life of people in British North America and its significance towards unifying Canada, as well as background knowledge of conflicts that existed. Life in British North America was changing at an alarming rate. New technology and services were being introduced such as railways and steamships. Industries such as building, producing and farming were being introduced. This was in part due to the many immigrants from Britain and France who’d settled. This was dreadful for the First Nations as their land had been taken away even more so than before. More resources were needed for the growing crowd so trade agreements were made. To summarize, the Aztecs and Incas have economic similarities and differences in trade, agriculture, and tribute techniques. The Aztecs economy was more mixed and had a prevalent merchant class whereas the Incans had more government control. Intellectually, both civilizations recorded data somehow, had amazing architecture, and improved their agriculture. Women in both civilizations were treated harshly but those under Incan rule was slightly better.
Living in Canada, there is a long past with the Indigenous people. The relationship between the white and First Nations community is one that is damaged because of our shameful actions in the 1800’s. Unnecessary measures were taken when the Canadian government planned to assimilate the Aboriginal people. Through the Indian Act and Residential schools the government attempted to take away their culture and “kill the Indian in the child.” The Indian Act allowed the government to take control over the people, the residential schools took away their culture and tore apart their families, and now we are left with not only a broken relationship between the First Nations people but they are trying to put back together their lives while still living with a harsh reality of their past.
Due to the escalation of the Fur Trade, both the French settlers and the First Nations shared strategies such as navigation, which ultimately set into motion the discovery and development of Canada today. When French settlers such as Jacques Cartier first arrived in New France, their knowledge was limited as to what they would encounter. Thanks to the kind gestures from First Nations such as Donnaconna, they were able to not only survive, but create a colony in the new land. The Fur Trade played a huge role in bringing together the French and the First Nations which started a newfound friendship. When comparing the two, I found that both civilizations had similar beginnings such as, the world starting out as just water, gods were required for the creation of land, and that both view the countries as the origin points of the worlds creation.
