Hitler and Stalin:
The World’s Greatest Enemies
In world history, there have been countless cruel leaders; the cruelest of which are brought forth by totalitarian governments. Governments such as 1930s Italy, early 20th century China, and modern day North Korea have brought forth leaders such as Benito Mussolini, Mao Tse-tung, and Kim Jong-un. The most terrible and most remembered totalitarian dictators, however, emerged in the years leading to World War II. National leaders subjected millions of European and Asian citizens to cruelty. The two biggest dictators of that time were Adolf Hitler and Josef Stalin. Both of these men killed millions of innocent men, women, and children, many of which from the very countries they led. However, no

Stalin welcomed Marxism, a philosophy introduced by his predecessor, Vladimir Lenin. Even when Stalin had peaked in power, he honored Lenin as the father of the Soviet Communist Party (Frankel, 2000, 134-139). Hitler, on the other hand, had to gather together a philosophy of his own. This led to the disjointed belief system of the Nazi Party, which was based on a combination of violence, racism, and a warped German Christianity; the only thing holding these things together was an acute form of anti-Semitism. Stalin and Hitler both proclaimed a zeal for his morals and claimed that humanity would be saved if only they were followed worldwide (Frankel, 2000, 134-139). Stalin and Hitler also agreed that society should be run empirically, or by scientific methods. The Soviet Union implemented this empirical ideology by introducing the "five-year plans," consisting of agricultural reforms and the forming of the gulag, a collection of labor camps. Hitler adopted this idea and translated it to the "four-year plan." This plan brought a quick restoration of the German army and the cold, orderly characteristics of the concentration camps. Stalin and Hitler attempted to justify their cruel agendas by claiming that they were necessary for the progression of science and technology (Frankel, 2000, 134-139). But, however similar Stalin and Hitler were in their actions, their political opinions were
Stalin’s five-year plans and policies affected people in all different ways some farmers were in the midst of famine, others were treated negatively, and some had an optimistic view of Stalin’s plans. Stalin’s five-year plan largely helped out the growing economy, but at the same time it hurt the farmers. Although Stalin was extremely supportive to the publics faces, his reign, starting in the 1920’s, led to the most killings in European history. The Soviet Union ended up surviving another thirty years.
Joseph Stalin said, “Ideas are far more powerful than guns. We don 't let our people have guns. Why should we let them have ideas?”. Stalin was a dictator of the USSR from 1929 to 1953. Under his dictatorship, the Soviet Union began to transform from a poor economy to an industrial and military based one. While still a teen, Stalin secretly read Karl Marx 's book the “Communist Manifesto”, and became more interested in his teachings. When Stalin gained power, he ruled his nations using terror and fear, eliminating those who did not comply with his governance.
In order to establish whether Lenin did, indeed lay the foundation for Stalinism, two questions need to be answered; what were Lenin’s plans for the future of Russia and what exactly gave rise to Stalinism? Official Soviet historians of the time at which Stalin was in power would have argued that each one answers the other. Similarly, Western historians saw Lenin as an important figure in the establishment of Stalin’s socialist state. This can be partly attributed to the prevailing current of pro-Stalin anti-Hitler sentiments amongst westerners until the outbreak of the cold war.
Politics. Politics control this world, and sometimes for the worst. Politicians can be deceiving, and lie right to you, with no signs of remorse. They can be the worst type of human being, manipulating you for their own cause. They can be evil. In America, the next presidential election is approaching, and we have many of these politicians trying to become our next president. Although there are many, I 'm going to concentrate on one. Donald Trump. He is a corrupt politician, and a cancer to our society. This man is so malevolent, he is drawing comparisons to one of the most barbarous men of all time, Adolf Hitler. These men are eerily similar, and I am uneasy knowing that someone that could be our next president is showing similarities to a mass murderer. These are not erroneous claims. Donald Trump and Adolf Hitler are similar because of their rhetorical abilities, hating of
By 1928, Stalin had ousted Trotsky and the rest of the Left opposition. In four years, Stalin had single handedly taken major steps away from Lenin’s collective leadership and free inter party debate and replaced them with his autocratic dictatorship. Stalin began to secure predominant power over the communist party and the state by destroying passive opposition from the peasantry and former Lenin supporters. He won growing support from the working class who were impressed with the initial five-year plan. As it promised increased industrialization, which would lead to socialism in one country within their lifetime.
Stalin’s leadership of the Soviet Union can be best described as a period of terror and censorship. In other words, he was very strict, considering the fact that he created the totalitarian government. In order to create this type of government, Stalin used fear and propaganda. He took part in The Great Purge, which was a campaign of terror that was supposed to eliminate anyone who threatened Stalin’s power. He also relied on secret police, who would arrest and execute any traitors. The online blog, “The Reasons For the Failure of The Russian Revolution”, brings up information on how Stalin planned to rule as dictator of Russia. It has been noted, “This ‘reshaping’ had three main aspects: the elimination of all dissent; the liquidation of all forms of democracy and of working class organisation; the slashing of the living standards of the working class and the physical annihilation of millions of peasants” (Text 5). This quote explains how Stalin wanted to industrialize Russia, which includes the deaths of several peasants of Russia. The Russians did not just die from The Great Purge, but also from Stalin’s Five-Year Plan. The Five-Year Plan was an attempt to industrialize the Soviet Union. It was also a plan for increasing the output of steel, coal, oil, and electricity. He had control over economic resources, including farms and
...e stop them not the enemy, not even some that they used to call allies. Is this why the world looks at dictators and can only see senseless and cruel mad man that will stop at nothing and will kill everyone that stands in there way, or were they just men striving for excellence that did what was necessary to survive and stay in there positions of power, even if it meant killing. Either way, it there actions shaped how we look at dictators now.
Joseph Stalin became known as the iron man for having a reputation of torturing individuals. Deemed as enemies of the Soviet Union, this was viewed as necessary for instilling a level of control over the perception the people had of their leader. No one would risk speaking out against conditions for fear. As seen in Uganda, Idi Amin killed all those who opposed his reign in the country. Some even said he cannibalized his victims. These rumors, or facts as some claimed, served to mystify the leaders of these dictatorships and as we know, people fear what they don 't understand.
In the late 1920’s, living in Lenin’s shadow, Stalin decided that the New Economic Policy would introduce the Five-Year Plan.
One fought for the right to be treated the same as the whites with the same rights and life that they have. But on the other hand one fought to take that very thing that King was fighting for away form millions. But the one for sure is that they have something with in them that help them be able to change history in there life time. They both did something that most people around them didn’t think they could do or didn’t think that anyone one would do it. Wither it be mass extermination or freedom and peace. They believed in what they did or where doing at the time and wanted it so bad that they died for it. Martin Luther King Jr was killed by a racist white male who did not like what he stood for and all the problems he was stirring up. Adolf was to believe that he killed himself so that he would be charge in court for his crimes as a war
Hitler and Stalin will probably go down in history as two of the greatest known evil leaders of the 20th Century. What could bring two men to become the menaces they were? What kind of upbringing would cause someone to turnout the way they did? This report will compare the two through their adolescence till the end of their teenage years.
These two men were very demanding in obtaining what they thought should be the rule of a nation by their own personal control. Stalin and Hitler were very close in the same way that they had an aggressive vigor to force a type of commanding dictatorship into their respective countries. Each had a special army that they put in high regard politically to where they were considered special police agents. These armies were under different orders, but their main objectives were to stop anyone who opposed, or were thought to be in opposition to the head of state. Also, both Stalin and Hitler had ideas to improve the education levels and economic prosperity of their own countries, each trying to put their own at the top of the world in industry and commerce. Although Hitler and Stalin were opposed to each other’s own strategies and political stance on being a world dominator, they were very similar in the way to which they fought for political power.
The historical counterpart for Snowball is Leon Trotsky. Snowball wants to improve the lives of all the animals (Orwell, 1990, p.32). He creates the plan of the windmill, but Napoleon later takes the credit for it. The windmill symbolizes Snowball’s efforts of modernization and comfort for all the animals. Similarly, Leon Trotsky wants to improve the people’s lives (Lamont, n.d.). Snowball and Leon Trotsky are both leaders. Moreover, both have people that were against them in their lives. For example, Snowball is opposed by Napoleon and Leon Trotsky is opposed by Joseph Stalin (Weebly, n.d.). Snowball’s leadership qualities and will to improve the lives of all of the animals make him a parallel to Leon Trotsky.
Hitler one of the greatest leaders in the world was powerful and organized because of the things he had done as a leader. Hitler fed on the grievances of the German people following their disastrous defeat in World War I. Much of their territory was taken from them and they were required to pay huge sums to their victorious enemies. These enemies were more focused on punishing Germany for starting th...
For a historian, the 20th century and all the historic events that it encompasses represents a utopia with endless sources of inspiration for the analysis of political figures, events and their consequences. Political figures such as Benito Mussolini of Italy, Adolf Hitler of Germany, Mao Zedong of China and Joseph Stalin of the Soviet Union are all names we are familiar with due to the time period that they influenced; this time period after the trauma and atrocities of World War I and the Great Depression led to completely new forms of government in Europe and beyond. These “manifestations of political evil”, commonly known as totalitarian states, should not be considered as mere extensions of already existing political systems, but rather as completely new forms of government built upon terror and ideological fiction. Therefore, this was also a time in which political philosophers such as Hannah Arendt, the author of the standard work on totalitarianism, “Origins of Totalitarianism”, could thrive. When looking at totalitarianism as a political philosophy, two initial questions have to be dealt with: what is totalitarianism and what kind of effect it had on countries ruled by totalitarian regimes. The reasons for its occurrence have briefly been mentioned above, although there are much deeper ideological, social and economic reasons including imperialism and anti-Semitism. In order to fully understand it, we must also contrast it to other political systems like authoritarianism and dictatorship, which are similar to a certain extent, but lack crucial elements that are in the core of totalitarian ideology. Out of the many examples of totalitarian regimes in the 20th century, Nazi Germany, Communist China and the Soviet Union stan...
