The American actor Tom Hanks once said: “A hero is somebody who voluntarily walks into the unknown”. In stories, people can pick and chose who is the villain and who are the heroes. Heroes do not always go on their adventures voluntarily but they do choose and save the day.Harry Potter is a series by J.K Rowling about a wizard who is living in the human world yet he doesn’t know he is a wizard. Until one day an owl comes into his foster home and drops of a note inviting Harry to Hogwarts a whole world for wizards. Harry getting invited is his call to adventure.The Odyssey is a Greek mythological book by Homer where the main character Odysseus is a king who has to go off to war. When Odysseus is ignorant and so Poseidon the God of the Sea cursed that Odysseus wouldn’t be able to get back to his home …show more content…

Makes sense though because they are in different worlds. In the Harry Potter series, Harry and his two friends and others use magic wands to fight in The Odyssey the character Odysseus uses swords/bow and arrows and his body to fight. Harry Potter has more fantasy than The Odyssey.In the seventh book of Harry Potter, Harry and his friend including the school are at war with a villain who goes by the name Voldemort who has been after Harry and his family for years. At the end Harry and Voldemort are using they’re wands to fight each other and eventually Harry wins and Voldemort dies.When Harry and Voldemort are fighting their wands do a Priori Incantatem which is where two wands have one of the same products in it so they clash together.     In both Homer’s The Odyssey and the film O Brother, Where Art Thou? the audience is given an opportunity to experience a spectacular adventure, filled with not only the sense of journey, but also the senses of peril and excitement. A tale about a Greek hero being compared to a film set in Middle America starring three jail-escapees seems rather far-fetched. However, upon closer inspection, both actually share a lot in common. The Odyssey stars Odysseus, a man famous for his heroics in the Trojan War. O Brother, Where Art Thou? shows a bit of a contrast by starring Ulysses, a former convict who escaped and began looking for “A Treasure”. So by default, one would assume that that these two stories would be completely different. However, it ends up being quite the opposite. The two stories are so remarkably alike that it is almost staggering. However, it may not just be simple similarities that make the two so alike. The main reasons why the two characters are so alike are not so much the actions that they take, as oppose to the overall human emotional aspect of the two pieces of work. For example, we see that both Odysseus and Ulysses are invested in their lives with their families, and as such, they never have a moment where they stop thinking about the lives they used to live. Both characters are extremely alike in terms of thoughts, skills, and experiences. They are both profound tacticians, as well as being rather strong and good looking men. So in the end, both of these men have plenty in common on the emotional and psychological levels.
